i'm seen a lot of crappy looking streams on live on playstation and i've pretty much just chalked it up to poor upload speeds. probably on cable connections that are generally 1-2Mbps unless you start getting into the high end tiers?

The last time I looked at PS4 streams was around launch and they looked pretty bad then. Compared to the stream you linked and another streamer who's streaming NBA 2k14, the Xbox One's stream quality looks about the same.

Yeah, in the early PS4 streaming days (and really still to this day) there were a lot of people streaming who had no business streaming with the kind of bad video quality they were getting with their bandwidth.

It's actually a bit of a shame the premiere title for Twitch streaming will be Titanfall when the app and game get released the same day. Titanfall has (1) similar color tones throughout the whole map, (2) extremely fast paced, (3) online only and (4) lots of vegetation and detail across the map...all recipes for a really sketchy picture quality even at the highest bandwidth. I hope people take that into consideration and not dismiss Twitch streaming on XB1 outright.

Looks neat, took them a while to get it though, which is odd since it was announced first at E3. Good for Xbox owners to finally get this though.

Depends on the streamers connection and quality. I've seen some really HQ PS4 streams on both Twitch and Ustream.

Im sure lots of people will take it into consideration, I will because I know now that those things will make a difference but I'm also sure there will be a lot of cloud jokes and MS/Twitch moneyhatting claims. ;)

how does this look to you guys right now?

I think the darkness and the film grain help :D

The quality setting option doesnt appear automatically, you have to contact twitch and then when you meet the requirements you get the option. Then after that if you meet a certain threshold you get a sub button.

I was watching my own stream (so meta) and it looked pretty good. Thanks for the feedback.

FYI My upload maxes out around 2Mbps. Other people streaming must be on REALLY bad connections as half of them are so blocky as to be un-viewable for gameplay. Would be rad if the Xbox One goes up to 720p but so far max quality on both looked to be similar to me (assuming it wasn't a connection issue on my end)

Also does anyone know why I can't get chat to connect properly on Google Chrome? Seems to work just fine on Safari and Firefox on my Mac. Tried the solutions in some of the Twitch articles like clearing cache and using specific flash plugins.

I hope sony upgrades the PS4 version 540P at 1.5 up max is just not good. Also no archiving of streams Sony needs to step up

Yea but PS4 streams are blurrier than Xbox ones

stream quality on ps4 has varied depending on the streamer's connection though...so i see a lot of people with really bad quality streams...maybe they are on 1Mbps up connections?

what does your upload have to be to get the highest possible quality stream on these consoles? thought it was around 1.5-2Mbps but can't seem to find the documentation.

PS4 internal streaming is capped at 1.5 on best settings at 540P. Sony is gonna have to step up and do better than that.

No, it does not.

For example, this stream http://www.twitch.tv/mym_alkapone of the same game (but via a capture card) has a ton less macroblocking (it is also very similar bitrate wise).

That is also not even touching on the fact that OBS and Xsplit support 1080P streaming at 60FPS with much higher bitrates.

I think that is exactly why it would be perfect to build hitbox.tv into a bigger community, plus you have the access of the xbox community your own friendlist of followers there is a lot of benefits all around especially if you're new to streaming.


but I maybe wrong i dunno.

Do people normally Fullscreen a stream? If so, then I can see it being a slight issue. Personally, why would I devote my entire attention to watching someone else? I'm normally on multiple tabs with one being neogaf and the others, who knows...

Watching the archive (which is not a direct quality comparison as it's more like a high setting recording) and the stream looks rather good, the sound stuttering seems to be from major and most likely the twitch streaming app choking or glitching.

It would be nice if there was a way to cap bandwidth upload rates or maybe drop res a bit, I can upload at twitch's max rate of 2.6 but if I do so in the middle of the day my ISP (virgin media) will limit my upload down to about 0.8 and cause a lot of problems, the way around that is to stream at about 1.2 so i'm not going above a 900mb per hour limit.

Small things like that are kind of needed as settings, a lot of UK people are going to run into that limit as virgin media internet is popular for a lot of people.
