I'm with you. Kickstarter seems like a great way to give folks a healthy start by donating to their projects. However, there is every reason in the world for a successful Kickstarter project to be a jumping off point to a major buyout. The entire structure of Kickstarter project games is that donors give some money, and then investors put up an even larger amount based on that expressed interest.
Do people actually believe that Kickstarter funds are paying for development?! God, no. You're deluding yourselves if you thought that was true. Kickstarter campaigns aren't trying to fund their game projects through consumers. Developers use those Kickstarter funds and stats to convince real investors to fork up the real cash that does pay for development.
---
Despite its seeming ideals, Kickstarter is really just a fancy form of consumer interest poll. Worse, it's a consumer poll that costs people money. Imagine how ridiculous it would seem if Coca-Cola put up a poll asking if people wanted to buy a new type of soda, and on top of that, they asked people to pay money to express their opinion. All consumers ("backers") get for it is a can of soda at the end of it all. But Coca-Cola gets marketing that consumers themselves pay for, interest polls that consumers voluntarily and eagerly vote in, as well as hard data that the company can show their investors demonstrating an existing and ready market. Just because it's some "start-up" doesn't make the whole process any more tasteful.
It's gross and always has been. I'm fine with other people putting up their own money, but for me it always seemed really gross and dishonest.
I have no idea. I've never heard of either game. But just from looking at the numbers for the majority of successful campaigns, simple math tells you that Kickstarter funds don't come close to what it actually costs to pay for development. And because Kickstarter funds aren't actual investments, developers are under no legal obligation to be transparent about where your money goes or how it gets spent. Again, I find that gross and dishonest. All backers have is the "word" of those running the campaign.
Oculus may be the most egregious example of people using Kickstarter funds to attract investors, but they are far from the only ones. That's the dominant model and has been for as long as Kickstarter games have existed.
Working on it now, didn't expect it so soon. Are you creating the thread?

Getting overwhelmed by new releases. Only counting indies, I want to try the full release of Mercenary Kings, play more Luftrausers, get Cloudbuilt and Escape Goat 2. Ether One, Spate and Betrayer look intriguing, as well.

Guy who is making the Blade Runner inspired A Crimson Searchlight released a short one-button Blade Runner/I, Robot mash up game Electric Tortoise. Pretty good 5 minute time waster if you're a fan of that kind of sci-fi.

I played Black Ice and it was surprisingly fun, I didn't find the UI hideous as Daydreaming pointed in his impressions, it's bit clunky but I got used to it very quickly. The visual is simple and works well with the game's theme, when you start hacking a building a fence forms around it and you can't leave until the building is hacked and all the enemies are defeated.
It's cool game and worth to play, but my reflexes for FPS are so rusted. xD
Yeah, I really liked it too, especially considering how varied the equipment addons are.

The Game is a 2D Adventure Platformer set in an Earth-like planet in the near future. The game is inspired by things like Monster World IV, Zelda II and various metroidvanias. The game has a large map with diverse locations, and has a focus on exploration and secrets. Various items acquired in dungeons and outside can be used to get to new locations in the game. Your main weapon is a gun, but there is also an energy sword option for close encounters, or from angles the gun would not be applicable.

Awesome write up Messofanego!
Monsters & Monocles - PC
This looks pretty cool
The alpha of Mini Metro saw two updates since the last (first) time it was featured here, with update 8 being pretty significant. Also seems like version 9 will be quite important for the UI "to make sense".
Still really like this game even in its early state. Only thing that bugs me (aside from the upgrade UI which should be getting fixed with the next update) is that you can't cancel a line once you've started drawing it, at least I think you can't. You can easily remove it once you've placed it, but for convenience' sake, cancelling should be an option (by right-clicking, perhaps). Edit2: Actually, you can remove it while laying it down, if you retrace it, it just gets a bit janky and buggy sometimes. Therefore, I'd still prefer one-click removal.
Edit: The mention of London as a "map" indicates that there'll be different cities with different rulesets which actually allows for a story mode if they want to go that far.

A sequel to its badger-themed predecessor, 'Shelter 2' follows a family of lynx trying to lead a life in wilderness. The sequel will feature more elaborate mechanics and movement options, as well as a more refined and and sophisticated command system. Needless to say, everyday survival will not be less stressful though equally rewarding.
Awesome. I enjoyed the first oneQuite excited for Shelter 2. Really enjoyed the first one, not necessarily as a game you play from start to finish, but as a beautiful and unusual little étude.
