Them be some sexy-ass mountains.

Yeah those and the ice mountains do look really really nice. I've always hated how a lot of racing games just ignore all of the surrounding stuff, trees, crowds, mountains, etc. because they think people who play racing games don't care. I absolutely care, especially when the cars are starting to look photorealistic, not just in photomode but gameplay as well and the environment still look like they are from some previous gen game.

They need, and maybe already have, a track coming down from the hills into a city. Sarajevo might work. Islamabad too. Bogota certainly. There must be loads but I can't think of any right now.

Looks great but the sound really seems quite dead, there's not much punch to any of the sounds.

This post deserved another quote:

Just a friendly reminder...just like YouTube does with video, it also compresses audio quite a bit. In fact, it will even re-compress MP3 files upon upload. Compressing an already lousy, garbage audio file = very very bad.

If you take even the highest quality MP3 file and throw it into an analyzer, you'll see that anything over 13-14kHz is immediately gone. The waveform is actually totally chopped off because the information just isn't there. And yes, that information IS important.

Therefore, discussing the audio quality of the cars for instance, based on YouTube videos, is probably not going to result in good discussion based on factual evidence. Unless someone has access to the raw CD-quality WAV files (or even better, the 24-bit digital raw recordings that would likely be available in-game), I'd reserve judgement. Just my two cents.

So what...they applied AA to the cars but not the powerlines? AA is either present or not.

Don't know how AA works but if you compare old footage to now AA was bad on the cars which is now fixed AA on the environment like wires is not. Not completely bad but not as clean as the cars.

I still can't believe Ryan said in his "mental comparison" Forza has the edge. I mean, I prefer playing 60fps racers of course, and it is a mark against the visual presentation of DriveClub, but my god did Evolution ever make up for it every where else in the engine. Essentially every single other aspect of the visual presentation massacres what Forza was doing. It's so far ahead of it it's almost comical to compare. They are doing effects that literally no other racing game has ever attempted.

Yeah I'm not seeing it either. I'm not skilled enough to do this but could someone put together side by side gifs of similar scenarios (POV, time of day, etc.) from both games?

Help me GAF, I need this for the other thread

I have downloaded 50 1080p PNG screens and I would love to post them somewhere where there will be no compression but also somewhere where I will not lose 2 hours in copy/pasting hosting links.

Any suggestions?

More objects in the surrounding environment also automatically improves the sense of speed.

The compression doesn't affect car noises much, or at least to me. If I watch a video of PGR4, FM5, or GT6, then play the game, it sounds exactly the same unless the video is absolutely awful.

What I meant by dead is that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of reverb or environmental sounds as well as how "raw" the cars sound, which you can absolutely hear in a video as I have before.

Minus.com, if you select them all at once it makes it into an album, and you can link the album itself I believe.

We can't have both? lol
Devs have limited resources. Choices have to be made. Unless you want DriveClub to be a 2015 release, then the answer is no. I'm glad that for once, pretty much all of the locales are the kind that are very rarely , if almost never, seen in racing games.

And no, I'm not from any of the countries included in the game. :p

Comparing Forza 5's graphics to DC is weird. FM runs at twice the framerate on weaker hardware with 16 cars on track vs 12 cars in DC. Obviously sacrifices had to be made. And DC had almost twice the development time.

Yeah it does seem to do that. I was one of the people really disappointed about 30fps, but the more videos I've seen for this game, the more I'm coming around to the idea that 30fps may be perfectly fine. Everything looks really fast and smooth.

Can't wait to try my PS+ version! Definitely looking like I may even do the upgrade.

Wow. Best audio and visual presentation in a racer yet? Hope they give Blim a HQ version of this.

Fair enough. I'm glad there are seldom seen locations in this. I just wish there was at least one iconic American Southwest track also for good measure.

Plus it's a launch title. But the Forza Horizon 2 comparisons are still going to be brutal lol. Especially if they stick with 30fps like they did for the original (which I'd much prefer for Forza Horizon btw. Give me those sexy visuals and vistas over 60fps!).

Yep, this.

@ old footage:

Wow. I remember when I first saw that I wasn't really impressed. The dynamic lighting was the only thing I thought looked great. It's very impressive how much better it looks now, the delay was absolutely worth it and the correct decision.

Don't forget all of the simulation physics calculations Forza is doing, which I would bet on being significantly more than what you find in DC's model.

I don't think there's a problem with assessing what's prettier though. I think Driveclub's lighting is a bit better looking.

I see the BC influence on their choice of locales and I like it a lot.

Well Horizon is likely to be open world again, so not exactly a fair comparison. Also PG released FH in late 2012, and Evo released MS3 in early 2011, so DC had almost 2 more years in development. I think people are forgetting that DC looked like absolute garbage last year and if it had released as planned at PS4's launch, FM5 would completely destroy it. And the amount of content which is laughable even today would be even lower.

Can I ask why having an American track set would make a difference? I'm from Scotland, but the Scottish track set doesn't mean anything to me in terms of making me more or less interested in the game. In fact from what I've seen so far I think Canada and India look like far more interesting enviroments.

A bit? So baked lighting only looks a bit worse than a lighting model that runs a 24 hour cycle.........

Game looks great visually with new tricks applied, as pointed out in this thread - but nothing shown has suggested any original twist to the racing game formula in terms of gameplay, modes.

What twists do you want. Surfing on the bonnet? Skiing behind a friends car? driving on two wheels? NONSENSE.

That footage they showed last year was 7 months old even at the time. They even said the game was far better looking than the build they had running. The October footage was actually their build at the time.

On a side note, even if Forza Horizon 2 is open world, it still might not have vista's as expansive as those in DriveClub, which so far look astonishingly massive. Or technical features as impressive either. But we shall see.

To settle this I think that we've reached a point in videogames history where all games are good looking, all shitty developers pretty much died during last gen, we're left with only the best of the best. I don't think there's a single downright ugly game on this current gen, apart from WatchDogs of course ;D

Okay, below is the link at the COMPLETE GALLERY (49 pictures) released today (39 1080p PNG's and 10 1080p JPG's - PNG's probably being direct capture).

It contains some of the images I have already seen around today, but there are some I haven't seen being posted yet.

I really hate comments like this. At no point has DC looked like garbage. It certainly looks better now. But even last year it looked fantastic. These are clips from last year

Well, i have Forza 5 and play it on a regular basis. Aside from the Prague track which is nice because it's full of colors and life, Forza 5 doesn't look that nice in my opinion, flat crowd, trees, buildings, jaggies... but it's 60fps so it had to make sacrifices + on a weaker hardware.

With that said, Drive Club is the most beautiful racer i've ever seen judging by these videos and gifs. It's freakin incredible really and i'm rarely impressed by graphics these days. It's funny that Ryan from IGN is even comparing Forza to DC. Well for sure i haven't played the game yet but damn, those videos... and the game isn't even out yet... Can't wait to play this bad boy !

Well besides the more variety the better? The American Southwest is an extremely iconic region in the way of both driving and scenery.

From the rumours FH2 will have both day/night cycle and dynamic weather. I'm very interested in seeing it, guys at PG are very talented and they don't have to waste time modeling cars since it's provided by T10. So they can spend all their resources building the open world and implementing these systems.

Just made every other racer including Project Cars on PC look last gen.

If you do a graphics / price table then DC will win, obviously, but there is almost no ceiling on how beautiful you can get on ProjectCars on the PC. It will come with a price, obviously, but one that I would gladly pay.
