I'm curious, considering Sunset Overdrive was basically a copy of Dead Rising 3 mixed with Ratchet and Clank : Tool of Destruction / Crack in Time rail grinding and weaponry, it was shit all over right? For not being innovative? Not being original? Not advancing the industry or advancing the * shoot millions of enemies with different weapons * genre? Right??

hmmm .. weird.
Sunset Overdrive looks like a game. The Order so far just seems like the only time you have full control of your character is when you're being led through smoke and mirrors toward the real experience, scripted events.

Regardless of how you feel about the game itself, I think everyone can at least agree that this game has had some of the worst marketing in recent memory. Someone should tweet Shu about how bad Twitch and YouTube are at showcasing current gen games. Also, RAD needs to know that best way to show a game like this is just put a 10 min gameplay video and let that do the talking, like how ND did with The Last of Us.

Oh man, that footage.

I like the look and sound of the weapons at times, but man, there was nothing impressive otherwise, and plenty to groan at. From the other thread:

The two guys just standing there on that roof, completely exposed, shrugging off bullet after bullet to the chest before dropping, without any noticeable affect on the others. Linear, scripted sequences followed by on-rails shooting galleries against braindead AI is so damn old at this point, and that footage had nothing fresh to balance out that old formula. It didn't look more polished or refined, or that it had more character or drama, or that there was more player choice or environmental interaction... nothing. Yikes.

This looks like random gameplay footage you'd see on YouTube, not something specifically put out there to garner hype. No tension, no drama, no sense of scale to the encounter, and man that AI looks boring to fight.

lol dude if you think the excitement in the footage we've seen of The Order is remotely comparable to the footage of Sunset Overdrive, you're insane. People are rightful to feel let down by this footage. It doesn't show much at all about the game it aspires to be and has been told to be. Sunset Overdrive footage did all that and more.

It didn't look that unique but it did look fun. Can't say the same about hiding behind a pillar and leaning out to shoot manikins. Sure it was a 2 minute clip, but they should have shown us something good about the game in that time.

And before you say "oh my god he doesn't like a sony game he must be an xbot" I have owned every Sony console and never owned and XBox.

Or you know, that looked fun and this didn't to some people?

Not everything is some conspiracy.

Sure thing dude who gushes over Gears.

Shooting hundreds of enemies with weapons is more fun then shooting a few enemies with weapons.

I def. see your point. RAD should scrap this project and add about 200 more people to shoot, make the explosion slightly bigger and then ... then we got something.

That looked nothing like Gears. Gears was a visceral thrill ride with great gunplay, meaty sounds and aggressive, threatening enemies. This snippet looked wimpy, partially scripted, and lacked any sort of perceived challenge. But it was just a snippet, I wouldn't write the whole game off just yet.

Are you somehow implying that Gears isn't scripted?

...

I thought it looked incredible. I'm ready for a new TPS and I'm kind of burnt out on the Gears universe. Loving the setting in the Order 1886.

That said, I thought the trailer was pretty good with the exception of the 'shoot one handed with pistol at cardboard pop-up enemies' type section that seems to show up in every one o of these games. I thought everything else looked really well done, in particular the huge recoil/spread on the guns. That, combined with the particle effects and environment are going to ensure every battle is fucking crazy.

Yeah, agreed. I found the gun outline somewhat bizarre since you can see the actual thing on the screen.

They are obviously pushing the cinematic side, so why loose that feeling with that clunky UI? Maybe its just a placeholder but I certainly hope the option to turn it off is there.

Graphics are impressive, the Victorian setting is one of my favorites. I wish they would explain more of the story. Gameplay seems fine. I'm sure E3 will blow this game out.

So... 100-men strong Ready At Dawn is creating their first large game that will come out in the 1st year of nextgen in which they are trying to surpass cinematic action feel of Uncharted 2 [their words, not mine] by pitting 4 immortal Knights of the Round Table against ancient threat of supernatural werewolves who have manged to decimate humanity for more than 1000 years before modern science managed to reach Industrial Revolution which enabled humans to finally start fighting back. Using incredible visuals and glorious 4x MSAA, we will get to play through singleplayer-only, story and character focused game that will try to give us alternate history filled with horrors and suspense?

But I must agree, the only really successful marketing move they had was initial E3 demo. Feb reveal was small, and this came unexpected and again showed not much new. They need to show more than shooting [which is not bad, but we want more], at least some quiet exploration sections if they don't want to spoil story too much.

I agree with this. My main concern is that the game will be too short

I have to admit it is pretty remarkable that someone could write that down and think "Yeah, that's good, I'm gonna pay same people thousands of dollars to say these lines!"

Lines like 'We're sitting ducks out here'. You don't need that. All you need is someone shouting 'move ... move' and the camera showing us why. Another line such as 'Only a few feet to go.' I mean, Jesus Christ, why not break it down in the centimetres. Nobody would say that in a real situation. Just a camera shot from just inside the door they're heading for would suffice. Show, don't tell.

Graphics is the BEST I have ever seen, Ever.

Gameplay is something I would decide when I put my hands on it.

Lovely setting, amazing animation.

The black bars drive me crazy but the game looks stunning and really fun to play, I don't understand the hate in this thread.

The game will almost certainly get a proper demo at E3.

I think the two videos so far haven't looked fun, but people have said people are 'writing it off', I'm certainly not even nearly at that point. They have plenty of time to impress me, and it's so pretty I'll almost certainly buy it regardless.

Why on earth did they even show this footage? It's not exciting enough to get anybody hyped, and it doesn't really show any of the interesting things they've talked about regarding the game.

RAD didn't decide what footage was going to be shown. This is all Sony. The embargo ends Tuesday morning, so they were probably trying to build hype over the long weekend to remind people to tune in when new info becomes available. Hopefully we get more footage to set up the big E3 reveal.

Will wait and see, but it is hard not to compare to last weeks showing of Sunset Overdrive which blew my socks off

Dead rising 3 type game.
Crackdown type game
Uncharted type game
Gears type game.
COD Type game
Skyrim type game

All games fall into a genre and they all form a basic pattern - That's not to say I wont enjoy them but nothing I have seen for quite a while has got close to blowing socks.

Sunset overdrive looks like a cross between crackdown and DR3 - hardly socks blown stuff. Open world games like this can be fun to muck around but I get bored as its often too easy. The respawn looked the best bit...

The last game that blew my socks was Mass effect 3.

It is a grey shooter with weird fantasy elements. I don't like how people are quoting me cheering and hoping for account murder. I don't like gears of war a lot. I played the game and hated everything about it. I saw this video thought it was similar and said it was awful

Fun fact about 19th century London, pretty damn grey. Lots of smog, lots of soot, lots of fog off the Thames. 1886 is not long after the industrial revolution, everything was coal fired and you didn't have scrubbers on the chimneys, if you're expecting neon signs and glowsticks I don't know what to tell you. It also contrasts nicely with the more fantastical electrical arcs and fireballs.

I'm shocked people are surprised by this games gameplay to be honest. They said they are going for a " filmic " experience from minute 1. I mean hell the resolution itself draws upon film.

So what is with the shock that the game is cinematic? Thats what RAD is going for! lol.

I see that Sony is actively making the game look boring and unfinished before the full E3 reveal.... I hope. They are really failing at marketing this so far.

Yeah. The difference between Sunset Overdrive and The Order 1886 is that the former is actually a game I'd like to play. That's all there is to it. There's no ulterior motive. TPS has been done to death. Simply going to for the low bar and backing it up with good graphics won't do it for me.

You do understand that Sunset Overdrive is basically Ratchet and Clank with M rating slapped on it? It's hardly any higher than going for the low bar and it is a TPS as well. Oops?

If this game was coming out for xbox... xbox fans would be ecstatic

This.

One of the best ways to tell when someone has an agenda, is by watching their reaction when something undeniably good comes out.

This game is going to be a great game, but those crapping on it have an alternative agenda for the most part.

looks great, love the setting. Am glad we got to see some more of it. Credit to RAD for making something that looks so visually compelling....

I'm absolutely astonished that the black bar shit is still in the game at this point.

I refuse to believe that they will actually ship the game like that. It's just so ridiculous I can't take it.

I'm still confused about this. Is the game rendering 1920x1080 between the bars, or is it cutting away lines of the pixels with the black bar, actually rendering at a lower resolution.

Just can't get the feeling of z-targeting out of my mind when I see it :p.

The PR for this game has been terrible. First the tiny bits of gameplay. And then this segment that the press has seen and talked about ages ago. That too out of the blue on twitch. Very, very weird. E3 better fix this.

The DC PR was abysmal until recently. Now they are absolutely killing it. Hope this game has a similar turn around post-E3. Right now, I'm just cautiously optimistic, more leaning towards the cautious.

That's a lot of words for just saying the graphics are good and that's why you are excited. I mean that's fine and all, but graphics aren't everything to everyone.

I love the setting of this game. Developers capture very well that steampunk/Victorian/vintage feel. Graphics look gorgeous. But yeah... Gameplay looks meh and looks like the shooting mechanics can get a bit frustrating at times but since this is a work in progress game I'm sure they would improve that.

I don't understand why everyone's acting incredulous or posting meaningless spam gifs at Sepp's post. I had the same thought; for a steampunk science fiction shooter set in 1886, there's a long and constant stream of remarkably modern and generic (GASP SHOCK I USED THE NO NO WORD) milspeak, which is odd and off putting and hopefully not representative of the full game.

You're quite right actually, I was also kinda hoping for some Victorian vernacular to sate my linguistic geekdom but then I suppose it wouldn't really go down well for most. The military language will be recognisable TPS commands that players will recognise I suppose.

DANG, I wish I knew what the hell was going on. Can't watch the footage right now. I don't understand why some people are disappointed though... people were hyped up for this? Hell, I have no idea what the premise of this game is.

There's nothing wrong with the marketing. They released two teasers and we'll see a more full playthrough at E3. We just need to have some patience.

Looked kind of impressive, and then like seven guys walked out one after the other onto that rooftop to get shot in the face Uncharted-style, and I was like :/

Honestly the settings, guns, and overall aesthetic look unique enough that if the gameplay is cover-based tps I'm excited. The complaints against this game have gotten pretty insane.
What's insane is that after one year and two reveals, we still don't have legit gunplay footage. Instead we have 90% cinematics and scripting, 10% you shooting at some decoys.

Yep, "cinematic feel" be damned. They need to lose the bars, and I find it hard to believe folks would willingly accept them if they didn't have to.

Yay enjoy your game. I enjoyed crack in time and probably would enjoy sunset overdrive. I enjoyed most Insomiiac games, even Resistance iterations. way under rated developer.

No way am I buying a bone for it though, hardware disappoints to the point of gritting my teeth.
