Absolutly terrible video.

I was thinking "okay, everything we have seen so far is uninteresting, this is time to show what the game truly is about".

... And it's the same.

It's a fucking generic TPS with a grey background.
You can explain me that the setting is why it's ugly, but it won't change the fact that it's ugly.

Even the Gears had more colour. Here there is only grey, grey everywhere, and almost no nuance.

The buildings look generic too, same goes for the presentation, or the level design. it looks boring, just boring, I don't see anything interesting in this video.

People will obviously call me crazy "but man look at this cinematic feeling ! look at these effects" but I don't care.

E3 is my last hope for this game, right now I am more excited even about Driveclub (which I don't really care about).

I'm sorry, but are you really complaining about Victorian London having an overcast with all the building architecture looking the same in a very, VERY small and close area? You do realize how ridiculous you sound complaining about that, a very accurate and true to life description, right? And how is the presentation generic? Not many other games have gone about purposely trying to look like a literal cinematic experience. And also, what is "generic TPS gameplay?" We've barely seen anything. It's a third person shooter with a cover system, with some QTEs. That's all we've seen, and very little at that. This is the equivalence of complaining about an action movie having a huge explosion or a racing game having cars that go fast.

The game has done nothing for me from what we've seen, in terms of being a "brand new experience," but to me it seems like you just don't like TPS or are tired of them. In any case, we still haven't seen anything to even fairly assess the game. The video was stupid, because it just showed us that the scripted AI was set up terribly from a game design perspective, but we STILL haven't seen shit.

This game continues to be underwhelming. I've accepted that its a cover based, 3rd person shooter, but grow some balls and show something recognizably original. The melee system, at least from they've showed, is not enough.

So frustrating.

I don't understand why everyone's acting incredulous or posting meaningless spam gifs at Sepp's post. I had the same thought; for a steampunk science fiction shooter set in 1886, there's a long and constant stream of remarkably modern and generic (GASP SHOCK I USED THE NO NO WORD) milspeak, which is odd and off putting and hopefully not representative of the full game.

Well, your explanation is different than just "yawn". While I'll disagree with you on this point, I respect your input more since you took the time to articulate it.

The more times i watch the more I'm impressed, does have a very grey look to it at the moment but its centered around London is it not so not unexpected and time of day looks like late evening. I like the atmosphere and look of the game so far wasn't that impressed the very first time it was shown its getting my interest more and more with every video.

Obviously graphics are quite pleasant but everything else just looks mediocre. I'm not sure this is a game I will pay to play. It's the same with Destiny. Obviously we haven't seen a lot of gameplay footage but why would they keep showing the worst parts? The answer is they wouldn't.

I still think it looks excellent. Really like the art direction. I hope it FEELS different to play. Everything they've shown is kind of derivative. I reckon they're counting on their story to really make them stand out, but there does need to be a gameplay hook in here. It's a new IP, show us why we should care so much.

P.S 1st post on Gaf, pls don't kill me! Haha.

Welcome to Gaf! :D Pretty much any opinion is encouraged, as long as you're not a dick about it!

Honestly the settings, guns, and overall aesthetic look unique enough that if the gameplay is cover-based tps I'm excited. The complaints against this game have gotten pretty insane.

Sony's marketing for that title is abysmal.
How in the name of fuck can you promote a game with such shitty gameplay videos??? This is a B-side footage god dammit which should be released only after a proper trailer blows everything alive out of the water.
I'm puzzled of what I'm looking at here because their marketing for DriveClub isn't nearly as bad. Currently they are giving the impression that the game sucks because that's the best that they can show from it. Which is hardly true.
C'mon Sony, get yourself together.

Yeah they've barely showed anything. And he stuff they have shown leaves a really bad impression. Why not release an actual good trailer and not tiny fragments of gameplay? How are gamers supposed to get hyped about this when the first thing you show after months of silence is a guy standing behind a pillar for 90 seconds?

I admit my comment about "being yet another TPS" was too broad. I mean, at this point, there's not much in gaming that hasn't been done already. We could say "it's just another *blank*' for a lot of games.

I seriously never played an Atelier game, though.

Well now I know that when I did not know that prior.
Do you see how the poster right above you informed me of this fact in a civil manner, and not with a condescending tone that how on earth could someone not have known this fact in a 40 page thread holier than thou attitude?

Thanks to the poster above you for the clarification. And even more important for having basic manners.

I'm sorry, it was not meant to be condescending.

I guess it was just seing you as maybe the 100th in this thread not understanding why it's stuttering and so many people explained it already.

Gotta love the classic "it's an old build so that's why the gameplay looks like poo" argument.

We haven't seen enough to make that call just yet. What I take from this video is that this is a pretty solid TPS game with some of the best visuals I've ever seen. Doesn't seem to re-invent the wheel, but I don't know why it should in the first place. If it ain't broken, you don't fix it.

I think most people know what to expect from this game, some tps action with "investigation processes" sprinkled here and there, with an awesome setting and cool looking weapons/enemies to mix it up a bit. Those two guys by the balcony were a little weird to watch, I'll give you that, but there's time to improve their AI.

At least they're showing the game for what it is, unlike ND with TLoU. That demo where the enemies were like 250x more intelligent and dynamic that never came to pass? What I wouldn't give to play the game as intended. Should RAD "lie" about enemy behaviour only to downgrade it later on, just to please a few?

I'm still a huge fan of TLoU, it's a brilliant game on every level and in my top 10 of all time, but, in hindsight, was it really so innovative? No, and it didn't need to.
The last two games that made me feel like I was watching something "new" and "awesome" were RE4 and Vanquish. Games like Gears, Uncharted and TLoU were set on a previous tried and tested formula, with eyecandy to match and tight gameplay, and nobody complained.

It's still early to make a call on this game. On my personal opinion, I think it will be a good game if they can make the set pieces fun and the controls tight and enemy AI more dynamic.

Digging the atmosphere and characters. Graphics are simply spectacular though right now I really wish there was more horror in the game. Where are the beasties? E3?

I think they should make the UI a little smaller, a similar size to the last of us would be fine.

I'm curious, considering Sunset Overdrive was basically a copy of Dead Rising 3 mixed with Ratchet and Clank : Tool of Destruction / Crack in Time rail grinding and weaponry, it was shit all over right? For not being innovative? Not being original? Not advancing the industry or advancing the * shoot millions of enemies with different weapons * genre? Right??

hmmm .. weird.

When was the last game that was truly innovative in storytelling and gameplay? By which I mean nothing like it has even been done before?

These videos are doing a serious injustice to the game.

RaD/Sony need to do what Insomniac did and release some HQ footage so people don't get the wrong idea about the game...

Looks bloody amazing though, the animations are incredible.

''the core experience is its a single play action adventure game''

''its a linier story driven action adventure game''

''the gameplay itself, you saw some shooting, there will definitely be that but we're building alot more in to that there will be more moment to moment mechanics''

This interview was from last E3, So even though it was clear then that the game will have same core mechanics of say ''uncharted 2/3'' , It also did sound like its going to be more then that.

You used generic correctly ^^

Also the AI running to the rooftops just to get shot and missing shots was disappointing.

I think you have to change usernames with a random gaffer to get why people are incredulous about it.

The Uncharted 4 thread is going to be glorious to watch.

Heads will explode at the generic shooter gameplay and it being an " interactive movie "

What is the obsession with dismissing unreleased work?

Maybe this game will suck, a lot do, but why outright dismiss it before even getting your hands on it? I just don't get it. Does everyone want to be the first to be right about something?

"Pfft.. I was totally saying that game would suck months ago dude. Told you so."

Not everything is some conspiracy.

"we're in position"

"about time"

"move out"

"what took you so long?"

"engage at will"

"understood"

"on the first floor"

"there, on the roof"

"stay under cover"

"go"

"we have to help him"

"cover me"

"surpressing fire"

"all clear"

"they're bringing reenforcements"

"we're sitting ducks out here"

"here comes another"

"we're clear"

"that went well"

"find us a way out of here"

yawn.

Who writes these kind of posts? Man, some of you juniors really come off like you have a motive...

I'm fine with what was shown. Game doesn't blow me away, but looks like a competent shooter with an interesting setting. Will wait to see more.

Overall thoughts:

  • what is this battle? what's going on?
  • where is the uniqueness of the enemies?
  • graphics are best i've ever seen, like damn!
  • The dialogue doesn't say anything worthwhile, seemed like small battle talk
  • it just doesn't have a fun factor, looks like what I'd describe as reading a boring book

Overall, I have lost hype even though I had hope for this next showing to be something worthwhile. No purchase necessary.

Or put the UI on the black bar.

I don't think the game even needs the UI. Especially not a massive picture of a gun...just in case the players utterly forgot what they were using.

Need to see way more of the game to judge. Looks really nice but nothing that interesting, gameplay wise. I have hopes with the setting and the later weird stuff but generic man shooting just ain't doing it for me.

Yeah. The difference between Sunset Overdrive and The Order 1886 is that the former is actually a game I'd like to play. That's all there is to it. There's no ulterior motive. TPS has been done to death. Simply going to for the low bar and backing it up with good graphics won't do it for me.

So... 100-men strong Ready At Dawn is creating their first large game that will come out in the 1st year of nextgen in which they are trying to surpass cinematic action feel of Uncharted 2 [their words, not mine] by pitting 4 immortal Knights of the Round Table against ancient threat of supernatural werewolves who have manged to decimate humanity for more than 1000 years before modern science managed to reach Industrial Revolution which enabled humans to finally start fighting back. Using incredible visuals and glorious 4x MSAA, we will get to play through singleplayer-only, story and character focused game that will try to give us alternate history filled with horrors and suspense?

But I must agree, the only really successful marketing move they had was initial E3 demo. Feb reveal was small, and this came unexpected and again showed not much new. They need to show more than shooting [which is not bad, but we want more], at least some quiet exploration sections if they don't want to spoil story too much.

In the body dragging scene they should just leave the whole thing in third person perspective behind the back and never break away for a one-second cutscene, don't break the immersion, there are way too many cinematic breaks and camera perspective changes, keep things continuous, rad.

What else should they say? I mean...if should take cover, shouldn't your ai partner tell you to take cover?

Really dude? Is every TPS going to be compared and contrasted to Gears of War? That game wasn't some holy grail and there were others before it.

This.

Also, even if The Order didn't have the other aspects we've heard about in other previews that they haven't shown in video form yet, why would I want that when I don't like Gears' art style and the "fat armor" look. Whereas this setting and artstyle looks great to me.

If I want Gears, I would go and play Gears.

That looked nothing like Gears. Gears was a visceral thrill ride with great gunplay, meaty sounds and aggressive, threatening enemies. This snippet looked wimpy, partially scripted, and lacked any sort of perceived challenge. But it was just a snippet, I wouldn't write the whole game off just yet.

I'm absolutely astonished that the black bar shit is still in the game at this point.

I refuse to believe that they will actually ship the game like that. It's just so ridiculous I can't take it.

Agreed, but people like to complain for the sake of it.. i wonder what exactly some of you guys were expecting honestly.
