Gamespot rumor: Big third-party Xbox One exclusive at E3

Thank god Homefront 2 is out....That would have been a garbage megaton. No problem in actually having that game, but that can't be your megaton. The megaton has to cause massive holy shit reaction. You do this buy bringing a classic back from the dead, or stealing a prized game from the other console.

I still got my horses in the race, DD2 and KOTOR 3

Haven't some of the mods said it wasn't controlled? And members of the press? (Perhaps Jason can chime in on that)

But at the very least, a lot of what he said was correct, some teasing but also right to the point on a lot of stuff that has mostly turned out to be correct.

I'd rather that than the other crap we get.
I've never understood where the "controlled" thing came from. Mega-corporations like Microsoft don't like announcing things on message boards. They like carefully-crafted PR cycles and big loud announcements on E3 stages or their own blog. All evidence points to ntkrnl being one guy gone rogue.

Lost Planet 2 had some of the best co-op around. But I would still hope for something more than a new Lost Planet.

I still think it's likely a new IP, similar situation to Sunset Overdrive. But if it is a known game i hope it's a Dragon's Dogma sequel. If Capcom isn't interested in funding maybe MS can step in.

Yeah the controlled leak talk for ntkrnl seems nuts.

I would say that the "Halo Collection" post on Engadget a week ago felt like a controlled leak. Like someone at MS said "its ok to mention this now" even though a part of the audience already knew it thanks to ntkrnl. It felt like one of those Apple controlled leaks we see in the NYT or whoever (or is it the Washington Times?) even though its been rumoured for months.

Most of the mainstream gaming press has been pretty shy to touch anything related to the ntkrnl leaks. Maybe they want trusted sources or something and thats why that Engdaget story ran last week and not 5 months ago. Maybe. But now I wouldnt be shocked if this game turned out to be the Platinum Games game we have known about since late last year.

My guess would be Phantast Star Online 2. The game is HUGE in japan and having it as a launch title in japan would be a smart move.

Wow, this would actually be awesome and is a cool guess. Makes sense in a way because of how silent Sega has been in bringing it to the west (keeping it silent for MS to reveal as a JP x1 exclusive)

edit: Makes further sense because PSO and PSU were both on xbox consoles previously..

I had dinner with Engadget's game editor last night and can assure you that wasn't controlled either. I've honestly never heard of a controlled leak happening in gaming, and though it's possible that something like that has happened, I don't think any games company would see it as a positive move. You guys forget how much this industry loves its silence.

If it's l4d3, I will cry...
Fallout 4..no way
Shenmue 3...yeah,its highly requested, but mostly from a hardcore fanbase... looking at the first two, how much money it took to make them and how they sold... I don't know if ms would pay that much for it.
Red dead 2...no, I think the times when rockstar published their big stuff with timed exclusivity are over.

I didn't mean it as a sarcastic post, should've made that clear. I liked these leaks. Never heard that mods said such thing, sorry if they have.

It's not implausible, they wanted some positivity going on and they knew a poster on message boards isn't going to make the headlines. No leaker ever leaked this much info, he knew about 2016 releases yet he was talking as if he wasn't working with MS "I am incapable of fear", and he joined GAF on Jan 28th, stopped posting on Jan 30th, two days later.. I'm not saying this proves anything, but it sure looks fishy to me.

What's fishy about someone leaking a bunch of stuff and then not wanting to leave any more of a digital trace? I talked to the dude and I'm pretty sure it wasn't controlled.

I think it's probably something from Capcom. Maybe MS is funding something Capcom was going to give up on just like they did with DR3.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Dragon's Dogma 2 would be considered as "big"?
Im not sure id see it as big either. I liked it a lot (despite the awful way it would cancel quests on you with zero warning) but i always got the impression it only sold moderately well.

Also to be honest genre/impact wise i doubt its the kind of exclusive that would help MS turn things around sales wise relative to PS4.

Thet need something like Gears miniumn - in terms of impact/potential when Gears first hit i know they own it now.

I could see it being Resident Evil

Seeing as it isn't a direct numbered sequel and MS is trying to find a game to quell the on growing fan base that TLOU is presenting

Granted Dead Rising is an exclusive zombie game from Capcom already but it doesn't take itself seriously

I could see this being a more story focused (trying to be sorrowful) Resident Evil spinoff like Revaltions

L4D is out of the equation... I don't see Valve ever doing an exclusive deal now that they are so well off and with the bonus fact that MS competitor is already ahead in sales...

Capcom though is plausible... plus the fact that we've already seen Resident Evil hold timed exclusivity before

Of course it's implausible. What company in their right mind is going to willfully leak a lot of information that encourages consumers to wait 6-9 months to buy their product for a cheaper price than it's available for now? The notion is ridiculous.

Existing IP, Vegas had a strong association with the 360, hasn't been seen in years.
I guess I could see Microsoft do that, they did do that with Splinter Cell 5. But, Vegas was such a long time ago, I'm not sure if that association holds any weight in Microsoft's eyes anymore. But, it definitely could be. I'll be for that if Microsoft allow it to be tactical. If they are paying for it, they don't have to make a generic shooter. If Ubisoft is funding it themselves, it'll definitely turn into mediocrity since they want to make it easy so everyone can have a fun time. I still can't believe Ubisoft removed squad controls in Ghost Recon. I guess it was too complex for their target audience.

Capcom can give MS some exclusives, but I don't think those games are going to be "big exclusives".
Capcom don't need MS for funding their big games.

My guesses are: Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Kotor (?), Dragon's Dogma 2, Mirror's Edge Reboot (unlikely, but let's throw it here), Crysis spinoff (I would laugh, but eh), Sleeping Dogs 2 (even though I think SE needs that multiplat money), a new game from Radical Entertainment (the guys behind Prototype), Splinter Cell. These are the ones that I remember, and besides SE needing multiplat money and EA wanting a piece of that 7-8m PS4 pie, I don't think what I said is absurd, like GTA V/VI, Red Dead 2, Fallout 4, Mass Effect 4, etc.

Why would Ubisoft give MS Prince of Persia?

Not big enough to cause trouble going on a single platform, like an Assassins Creed would (Ok, there was Liberation but you should understand what I'm saying), and not small enough to people say "eh, they are just throwing scraps".
