NPD Sales Results for May 2014 [Up1: Wii U Hardware]

All signs are pointing to the early $400 SKU announcement hurting it... Especially since the 3DS did better.

Exactly so I'm assuming that the Xbox One did better than the Wii U.

The price cut wasn't known in April and it still did horrible. The X1 was going to do terrible in May, with or without price cut announcement.

Did the Xbone completely fall off a cliff for May?

That price cut announcement probably hurt them badly for May.

If WiiU is really in the 80k+ range, I could see that beating out Xbone after a sales drop from potential buyers waiting for the cheaper model.

That's what I was thinking. So along the lines of PS4>3DS>XB1>WiiU>Vita

Both WiiU and XB1 should get decent bumps next month too

I don't get why people are suprised by MK8. If someone has a WiiU and doesn't buy that game I would ask why even have a WiiU. Hardwere numbers will be more telling and if Niorlak estimates are true there not really all that good.

reposting this from the other thread.

I expected Xbone sales to be bad, but not THIS bad. If 3DS and WIIU outsold it then they have a problem. June they will see a boost but I still see the PS4 edging it out in Sales.

If they don't win June. PS4 will be the top selling console for the rest of the year. Destiny in September along with the white PS4 Bundle will solidify the PS4 and top selling next gen console for the year.

Damn! Congrats to Nintendo for Mario Kart 8 at 2nd. Nintendo just needs to keep outputting these games of such quality and fun on a regular basis.

So

This is sort of the problem with MK8 doing well. Because now there's nothing to carry the momentum. I don't mean "Rarghargh they should have had Smash ready in the summer, they are fools," but, like, the next major game is coming out in September (Hyrule Warriors, so your definition of "major" should be adjusted considering what we're talking about). July if you want to count Wii Sports Club, which you probably shouldn't.

This is a problem that could have been easily foreseen and, more to the point, seems to be actively intentional? Like, Hyrule Warriors is coming out over a month after its Japanese release. Nintendo's actively sabotaging their own release schedule here.

They seemingly knew people were going to pick up the system for MK8, they've outright said they were counting on it. So why on earth did they fail to capitalize?
