PS NOW. Rentals from US$2.99 to US$19.99.

The service isn't even out yet and I have no idea what the final pricing will be but fuck you Sony, you filthy money-grabby bullshit company and your stupid ideas.

I'm like totally out right now, thanks for nothing.

Jesus, just don't use the fucking service then. Stop overreacting like a child

The service is DOA if price model stay like this. This is ridiculous and I hope Sony just trying different price models.

Terrible pricing. This will be an abandoned thing on the dashboard people will go "Anyone even ever use that?" over every couple of weeks.
Don't even want to know what they are going to charge for PS4 games.

I can't honestly believe they'd launch with such absurd pricing. At the same time, I think people hoping for subscriptions as low as say, Netflix, are overly optimistic.

Reading the last two pages of this thread has turned me from being curiously interested in this to not giving a flying fuck. First big dropping of the ball of this gen by Sony in my opinion. Just bizarre and stupid decision making here.

I plan on giving blood each time I want to rent a game to help subsidize the price. I already had to get a second job to afford a ps3, and a second mortgage to afford a 16gb Vita memory card.

I find it kind of odd how quick everyone is to crucify Sony over prices for a service that isn't even public yet. Odds are that they are pricing stuff now to gather feedback and adjust going forward. Just reading this thread, you would think there was some sort of official announcement on all this. Just keep in mind, there's a reason why this is still in beta.

Instead of trying to charge ridiculous fees by all accounts for old games in a beta product to see if anyone will bite, they should just skip all that and just ask for feedback on pricing. Especially since the free games seem to have been removed from the service where you'd actually be able to test the quality of the service. This seems more like a soft launch of the service rather than beta testing usability.

I know some people are cheap but come on. $20 will probably get you a month of rental time, which seems reasonable.

$20 for a month would be reasonable if the game just came out.

If the game is several years old and you can actually purchase it to keep for less than you'd pay to rent it for a month, that is not so good.

My thoughts and problems exactly.

Still holding out hope that PS+ games will show up here.

Also, are these games you rent only for one system at a time? Are all PS Now games available everywhere?

Man, people really don't like these prices. They sound fair for brand new games but not older ones.

I think it's worth saying this will probably never be like Netflix, streaming video is nothing compared to streaming a high fidelity video games. Also not sure if people noticed but movies at retail are usually 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of a videogame. If publishers are setting the prices they are going to look like this for old games, they probably shouldn't be.

If I remember right when Netflix first started streaming you had to be paying $5.99 a month to get a like 6 hours of streaming on top of the mail service. Look back at PS+ there was one mounth we got Critter Crunch as the one free PS+ game...now there are 6 games across three platforms. So I wouldn't be surprised if an uproar from fans and low sales caused something to change. That said I think a lot of people here have unreasonable expectations.

I wondered how they were going to handle the open Beta. Charge for the service while in beta. Idk how I feel about this

Apparently only Steam can get away with charging for early access?

The prices are dumb but they have been on record multiple times saying there is going to be a subscription model.

$20 sounds completely reasonable to me if the rental period is at least a month or so. More than enough to play through the single player.

$20 a month for back catalogue subscription would be reasonable with a decent library. The current pricing for games more than a year old sounds way too expensive. Then you'e got people who would be spending at least $20 a month guaranteed which I would presume would be more than they'd get from a lot of people, especially those playing on dedicated consoles.

Most prices seem fair if you've never played the game or owned a ps3. I bet ff13 on Psnow still looks better than the half assed 360, hah.

Yeah, but then you'd be playing FF13, so you'll be ripped off regardless
;)

So, they are taking a very good idea and fucking it up with their money-grabby bullshit. (See also: proprietary overpriced Vita storage hurting a great platform)
If Xbox Live should have taught us anything, it's that people will pay a lot of money for money grubbing bullshit. Vita memory cards are not a viable excuse for its performance IMO.

As for Playstation Now ever being a great idea... It always seemed like a money grubbing excuse for killing BC to me, and no price scheme would change that. The only place it seems like an actual good deal is on Sony TVs with no console.

I'm at a loss for who this is supposed to appeal to. Enthusiasts/hardcore gamers are looking for a netflix style subscription services. And casual gamers are too used the the iphone/android $1-$5 price model. I don't see a large enough base of buyers at the current price points to think PSnow would be successful.

If it is really $5 for 5 hour rental or so for a few games... Then, I just can't... $20 is bad enough for a month for old game, but $5 for a few hours of a old game?....

I hope when the program becomes public they aren't like that.

I think the biggest issue is that rentals aren't going to be that appealing if it doesn't feature more recent games, and seeing as the PS3 is on its way out that just isn't going to happen for much longer.

Now, if they had PS4 games available for rental THEN the service will really gain some traction. I'd be willing to do a rental of a newish game rather than a 5 year old game.

Wasn't it like $8 to rent a game for a weekend from Blockbuster back ~10 years ago? Just trying to put things in perspective a bit...

Why is $20 for a month considered outrageous? While yes, you can buy some games for less than that, you aren't just paying for backwards compatibility. You're paying for a new streaming service that allows you to play older games without owning the older console

This isn't just playback like Netflix or Youtube. You also aren't paying a subscription fee on top of the charge (everything they said in interviews sounds like it's either paying per game, or they'll try and do a subscription option)

Ya and how well that worked out for them. Perspective indeed.

So the prices are what they are. So alot of the whiners in here, would you really keep these old systems around, hook them up, etc etc. So that you could sit back and flip the rim of your fedora and say, look at that sony I've saved 3 bux! Or would you say oh I haven't played x game in forever. Boy I'd hate to try and find the system, cables, wire it into a modern sound system and fiddle to get it working. Or would ya say fuck it and rent it for 20 bux. I'm leaning towards 20 bux.
