You honestly think they would release 1.74 then a week later have 1.75. I think if you think other wise it would be crazy. Sony has took a hammering on social networks from people once they found out the Xbox One was getting 3d blu ray support. This is blatantly a quick fix as it looks like there's nothing else in the firmware but 3d support. How obvious could it be

Probably the rumor about 1.80 being the Media Update is true.

So they took out the code for 3D BR and added it beforehand to the current firmware to counter the MS annoucement.

There is no way they planned long ago to make a 0.01 release for a highly requested new feature ...

I guess I'm the only one here who still uses his PS3.

I had to spend extra money on a receiver with more inputs and a media cabinet that held more components to accommodate for my PS3 and 360 in my new setup in addition to my PS4 and XBOne. Not only due to lack of BC in both consoles, but also because of the lack of 3D BD support.

Im not saying though that Sony knocked the feature up in a week though. It was already done, or being heavily worked on. Im sure it wasnt easy and it would be insulting to their engineers to suggest it was so knee jerk. But once MS announced the feature, it was 100% inevitable Sony would drop the 'soon' and actually show the goods.

As a PS4 owner I really do appreciate the competition, as it seems dubious 1.74 and now 1.75 with blu-ray was originally intended to launch within a week.

how was it fixed?

I have had this problem since launch and I'm considering just sending the console back to Sony at this point.

I'm not sure what update it was but it was recent. I used to his share and it would not only record random times. Now I hit share to start it, it records, when I go into the share menu it saves and when I leave the menu it starts recording a new 15 minutes.

The ps4 was never going to be a killer Blu-Ray player, it's a basic Blu-Ray player, it's primary function is that of a games console, so no it's not trite nor tired.. I bought my ps4 to play games, it's rather good at it, I hope Sony keep that premise in mind when developing fw updates...

MP3, DLNA, Suspend/Resume will come in time. Its not like PS4 stopped playing games ( its main function) .

And those comparing PS4/X1 updates, I would say that X1 has bigger issues to deal with rather than MP3 or 3D support, what about slow installing/downloading games? Sluggish UI ? Broken party chat (still complicated even after the update).

Three"gaming related" issues that PS4 is already leagues ahead of Xbone on it.

Why doesn't my BD player play PS4 games? Why must the PS4 match and exceed the functionality of a special purpose device when it has it's own features to build and fix?

Weird, I also see the same parallel in games. People hold GTA as the stand for open world games and if a similar open world game doesn't match and exceed the game play features of GTA it is considered as a bad GTA clone i.e Watch Dogs. Why can't I hack bridges in GTA? but

Yeah im sure they knocked this up in the past week, come on use you head, firmware isnt just tossed out there without testing and being worked on for a period of time or it could brick thousands of machines.

I gotta ask why so many people like 3D blu rays. The only 2 3d movies I've ever loved the 3d in we're dredd and avatar..

Any full animation film (pixar - dreamworks etc) converted into 3D makes it instantly better in my eyes - espcially since I watch films on my projector screen! Plus it's not that crappy post converison (see The Avengrers) where they make a 2D figure and bring it forward towards you, like watching paper cut outs jump out at you - rubbish. You need films that where recorded the actual characters in 3D there and then with 3D cameras.
