The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

Is there any logic to how and when a "silent" takedown of an enemy will alert other enemies who are not close by? I noticed this once or twice early on but it's been especially bad during the Pittsburgh hotel area. I'll creep up behind an isolated enemy, do a triangle grab and a square takedown choke, and then enemies that are around a corner and down the hall will come running. It will sometimes spawn enemies the next floor down in an area I just cleared minutes before.

Is this a common issue/glitch? I only played the game once before on PS3 and I can't remember having this problem, although that play-through was much more run-and-gun, whereas I'm trying to be more stealthy and conserve supplies this time around.

I had issues with this as well. Described my problems like this:

Is anyone else having problems with going out of stealth for no good reason when strangling people? It happened to me
in Pittsburgh
outside the bookstore when strangling the hunter who begins walking towards the bus and on the second floor of the first hotel encounter when strangling the hunter walking around the balcony area. I am quite sure that no enemy was close by when I did the takedowns and it was definitely the strangling animations playing out. I restarted the encounter outside the bookstore several times to try different points of attack, but I was detected by the other hunters every time I tried to strangle the specific hunter ... Although for some reason it was possible to take him out stealthily with the bow. The second encounter was not practical to restart, so I just proceeded with the game.

It might be that I am missing some aspect of the strangling mechanic, but I don't think so. If enemies are far away and there is no line of sight, a successful strangling should not result in an alert state. I have stopped testing the issue, but I think that it happened again in the big fight outside the hotel when taking out the single enemy guarding the building to the left from where you start.

That's odd, I choked all but the last 2 guys out in that area with no problem on Grounded difficulty.

Somthing is wrong with the 30fps mode. It feels like its unoptomised.

Lots of input lag as well. And no its not because my brain is adjusting to the lower fps. Needs to be fixed.

Yup.

I just popped in another 30fps game and even TLOU for PS3 and it was smooth

Oh well doesn't matter, thank fully there is a 60fps option.

It definitely is not as smooth as the PS3 version…not sure why that is or they threw that option in last minute thinking it was going to be the 60fps only, etc. But for whatever reason, 30fps is worse on PS4 than on PS3.

And that part in the subway with the trains and water, it was that green nightmare fog for me too and def wasn't like that in the PS3 version. Def a weird glitch or whatever.

Just finished Left Behind. Started not-so-into-it but ended up loving it by the end of its 2.5 hour run. Even so, I can't help but feel that there was a missed opportunity by not making the
Ellie/Joel half
instead another prequel chapter about
Joel and Tommy's Hunter days. Ultimately, we don't really learn that much story shit from the Joel and Ellie half outside of how she transported him. Two prequel stories would have been much better I think

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Any word on the shirt wrinkle effect? It seems absent. It used to be one of the strongest details about Joel's charecter model.

Completed it on hard earlier and about 1/3rd of the way through a grounded playthrough now. Grounded is a lot of fun.

Finished it up today (and the DLC). Really, really great game. I only got to rush through it when it came out on a borrowed PS3 so it was good to do it at my own pace. Finished on hard but I actually found it a tad on the easy side. Think I'll have to jump back in on Survivor.

Or am I better going straight for Grounded? What are the main differences between the two?

Still waiting for people to list all those games that humiliate TLOU in the AI department... since apparently it's shit.

I think people claim the AI is shit because of the friendly AI, but completely forget/ignore the fact that the enemy AI is pretty damn good. They will flank you and try to draw you out, so you don't get too comfortable behind cover.

I wouldn't flatter the enemy AI too much. I had a battle where one after another the enemies ran into my room, hid behind a thing, then ran back out into another room.

Tried out photo mode and the game crashed twice on me while I was scrolling through color filters. Anyone else have this happen? I was scrolling through them rather fast, maybe that caused it.

Yep, I had this happen too., I posted about it a few pages back. It only happened during the University chapter though.

Made a video and tweeted it to ND but they haven't replied.

Ellie sounds like she's in her 20s so far (I'm 5 hours in). Joel's voice is great though; not a hint of Kanji seeping in unlike with Booker's voice in BI.

Clickers or Hunters? Stalkers have weird AI and seem to always want to get the jump on you. So if you look at them/towards them they may run while another tried to sneak up behind you. Depending on if you are in a corner or by a wall can sometimes really fuck with their AI and it takes them a couple tries to just go for you instead of getting the jump on you. I hate stalkers.

Well Ashely is in her 30s(?)

Hah, mine was in the uni too! It was in the 'in memory of' room. I sent a crash report with a video (gotta admit, that is a neat feature).

The military guys. Was while I was escaping the building after
Tess died

I just finished left behind on survivor. I am currently playing the main campaign on hard with no listen mode. I am curious how difficult grounded is compared to survivor? It sounds like it is checkpoints that are most troublesome. I am thinking about trying the new game plus glitch to beat the campaign in grounded.

Also, since the grounded trophies are separate from the main game, will I still get the survivor trophies from grounded to help with platinum?

Yes, grounded trophies stacks on top of all the other difficulties.

I beat the game this morning. This was my third attempt on trying to play the game. And like the saying goes, third times the charm. I felt asleep playing it on the PS3, twice. I wasn't sure if it was the story, or I was just tired at the time. And when I booted up the game again at a friends, I remember what it was, the blacks and the lack of AA. It really strained my eyes. I never had this happen to me before in any game. Even when I adjusted the brightness, it was still happening. So now I got to play the remaster. With the smooth framerate and cleaner image, my eyes didn't get fatigue. So I can finally enjoy this ride that a lot of gamers speak of.

I'm not going to deep throat this game, it got enough of that all year round, and still going. I will applaud the variation enemies. Something action games don't seem to do right. You knew going into certain zones shit was going to get real. My heart was on edge, regardless who I was facing. Because they all behave differently. Everytime I hit a area, I'm like. "Okay, let me see what I can craft..Fuck, not rags for molotov cocktail's for these clickers. Okay, I need to use bricks and bottles to move around and I have ammo..Lets move" The A.I is not the greatest at times, but it gets the job done. This game deserve all the hype. What a ride, and looking forward what else ND has in store. One thing for sure...
Winter...Fuuuuuu, the feels I got for Ellie was like I was her Father. I never went through with any game. And what he told her when it was all over..Joel's expression, said it all. Man, to be in that position. "Fuck the world, I'm not losing you."

After the bit where Joel gives Ellie a gun she's been super generous with ammo. Did that just kick in? In the space of 15 minutes she gave me 6 shotgun shells and 4 rounds for the revolver. This is on survivor btw

Finished up the main story and Left Behind today. First time playing this game. All I can say is this was one of the better gaming experiences I have had in a long time. Loved them. Now I need to go back and play both so I can finish collecting all the stuff. Got to get them trophies! lol.

so in regards to blown out color when in night settings, I've seen some of you suggest setting the ps4's rgb settings to match the TV's settings.

What if my tv doesn't even have those options? What should the ps4 be set to?

Limited, all TV's expect limited by default. Full is a PC setting that most modern TV's will accept also. You do need to check that your TV does accurately display full even if the tv accepts it as some just expand the limited range so therefore you may see colour banding.

Even though my Sony TV accepts full that mode gave me washed out colours and too bright an image in this particular game for some reason Limited gives me the correct image output.

No its not. Something IS wrong with 30fps mode. As nobody seems to read me. You can confirm it with remote play which is 30fps by default. When 60fps ingame is activited the 30fps remoteplaying is a normal one. When you pût 30fps ingame it should be the same but its much more sluggish

That is normal. When you are playing in 60fps mode and remote playing it SHOULD feel smoother than 30fps remote play. It's similar to watching a 60fps gameplay streamed at 30fps on twitch. although the stream is at 30fps you can notice that the gameplay is smoother than regular 30fps.

There is NOTHING wrong with the 30fps. Its the side effect of switching on the fly takes you brain a few to adjust. Just like going from ps4 to s ps3 game it takes some time to adjust to the blurry images.

I also think motion blur is less in the ps4 version so it doesn't look as smooth.

None of this is correct. It's not my brain, I'm used to playing 30 FPS games and 60 FPS games, they are interchangeable for me.

The Last of Us is an issue to me. It's missing some major smoothing operations when it get's locked at 30 FPS, which was most likely removed or limited due to the targeted 60 FPS.

What smoothing option are you talking about? 30fps is 30fps digital foundry already showed it is LOCKED at 30fps. there may be less motion blur that is making it LOOK jittery but it is no question running locked 30fps. without any blur this IS how 30fps IS.

A couple days ago, I copied my save data to a USB drive from my brother's PS4. I just put that save data onto my PS4, but when I start up TLOU, it still only gives me the start new game option. What's going on? I'm playing on the same PSN account.

EDIT: Nevermind actually. It was just that I never did copy the data from the USB to my PS4. I had forgotten after traveling for so long. Guess I was out of it lol.

If its anything like the PS3 version, there is a profile save and a regular save that both need to be on the console.

I'm noticing that the blacks seems more gray and washed out. Idk if it's a console setting or just the game. Other than that it looks really good. Definitely the way it was meant to be seen.
