Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

Graphics - All that matters even for a port of a game that looks exceptionally good if you take into account when it was released.

Remasters - If it ain't Zelda, it ain't legit.

Ports - What are the benefits of a games being on multiple platforms? Screw that.

Screenshots - More reliable than playing the game.

Graphics - The game should at least look as good as the original. The age is irrelevant.

Remasters - If you're going to call it a remaster, it should be remastered. As in, they went back to the master files and creates the assets again.

Ports - A good port shouldn't be messed with too much. If people who didn't play the GCN version wanted to try it...well, their best course of action is still a Gamecube.

Screenshots - An obvious indicator of something going wrong in the development process right now.

I can't wait for the millions of people to buy it on 360 and X1 in Japan.

Damn, I think it might even outsell the PS3 and PS4. Dude, you are hurt or some shit about the past and you are still salty now. Let it go dude. It is a new generation.

I think this is how Capcom see's it:

The 360 and X1 platforms are there for Western sales. Also all platforms except PS3 are digital in JP.

WiiU is doing horribly WW. Just looking at JP sales of Revelations:

PS3 : 188,851
WiiU : 11,973
3DS : 283,235
360 : 6,099

Most interesting thing will be the PC version.

RE4 on Steam supports user contents and mods

If RE HD arrives on Steam, we'll might see some interesting features as well, eg Leon and Claire appearing!

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
There was some picture at the bottom of the Famitsu article in the OP, was something like "The REAL BIO2" or something like that. I wasn't sure if it was implying an RE2 remake or not. Maybe it's still there, I'm at work now and can't get to the Famitsu link.

That's referring to a theme attraction for Universal studio.

Why the hang-up in having series on their "home"? It's a fucking plastic box playing a game, enjoy the games not the hardware.

How are you going to enjoy the games, if they're not released on the platform you already have? Buying a system for a single game would be idiotic, if you don't fancy the other games available on it.

So I'm curious. What exactly about the giant, faceless corporation of Sony makes them worth your loyalty and adoration? I've never understood why people would care so much about a company that only regards them as a wallet.

It's not about the corporation, it's all about buying a system for games that appeal to you. Before the REmake exclusivity deal was announced, it was reasonable to expect the series to continue on the PS2 as RE:CV had already been ported there. So, the reason you partly bought the system for wasn't there anymore. Luckily there were a plenty of other horror games to compensate for the loss of one though.

Exactly, people should stop whinig!
Ohhh...look, we get to play one of the greatest games ever made without having do emulate it or buying a 15 year old console from ebay that barely works. BUT the graphics is not as good as todays games

First of all...screenshots says nothing.

Second of all WHO CARES

I suspected Thuway wouldn't make such a random claim without any basis behind it. I briefly dabbled in the REmake on my friend's Gamecube once, so I'm definitely in.

oh ma gawd

I just saw the full res screens. Are they just blowing up the original SD backgrounds and applying an ugly filter over them? :lol Clearly I thought too highly of Capcom.

I want to see what modders bring to table, hell we might even get full remade backgrounds?....right? :(

Resident Evil had "exclusivity" for Playstation (we'll ignore the Saturn version of RE1) broken with Dreamcast. Code Veronica X came out about a year and a half AFTER the Dreamcast one. In fact, there were several games that Capcom released exclusively on Dreamcast that took forever to get ported to other consoles, or never saw another port elsewhere. If you were being intellectually honest, you would have got mad far before Mikami and REmake.

Conveniently looking past the fact, that Code Veronica came before the PS2 was even released, and it was ported to the system within a year of its European launch.

Please tell me they are keeping the Type-C controls?

Players are now able to choose not only between experiencing the terror at the classic 4:3 ratio or a stunning 16:9 widescreen mode but also the type of control scheme they play with. The classic control scheme remains for fans of the original play style or there's an alternative scheme where the character moves directly in the direction of the analogue stick, utilizing the standards of the current generation of gaming. Both the control scheme and the display options can be toggled between at any time during gameplay.

This from the OP, so it looks like they are...

Damn, this looks worse than the GC/Wii versions. I just played it on a nice CRT a few months ago and it was crystal clear. Best pre-rendered scenes that I have ever seen. I don't have a reason to get this "HD" version.

I don't really see why people want a new RE with prerendered backgrounds. They could probably get close to the quality of REmake in real-time on PS4 and Xbone and it would save them a lot of time and effort, and the characters would look much better placed in the world.

I have the same amount of hype for this as I did for the FFX-X2 remaster. That answer is too much!! Day 1 purchase (and I'll proceed to probably only play 5 minutes at a time). Work is killing me but I'll support Capcom in this endeavor. :(

Taking that badass game and lovingly rebuilding it with lavish attention to detail...

...is what they did on the gamecube more than 10 years ago.

This time around, not so much.

I can't play the GC version anymore due to the horrible d-pad on the GC controller. I'd love to buy this but it looks so bad. I'd rather they did the game justice by giving it new assets and charging more as opposed to simply porting it over.

- It's not like you can actually tell a difference unless you are comparing them side to side. They haven't turned it into a ps one game like some ppl seem to think. And besides...who cares? Are graphics really that important?

- No, then they would call it a "Remake".
- There are MANY ppl who wants to play the GCREmake but don't want to go over the hassle of getting a Gamecube just for that game and then trying to find a copy of the game on ebay and then playing it on Scart....

-No it's not, until we see the finished version on screen, it says nothing.

The Playstation 2 was released in Japan a month after Code Veronica came out there. They could have ported it much sooner, but they were too busy developing other Dreamcast titles at the time.

I don't buy your argument, sorry.

I loled when someone called Playstation the home of Resident evil, the series has been on GBC, DS, PS1, PS2, PS3, PC, Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, GCN, Wii, PC, cellphones and I'm sure there's more.

Really stupid fanboy comment.

Great to see it on PC, can't wait for the mods for this.

It sold 1.35 million for GC's ~22 million userbase, how much do you think it's going to sell to Wii U's smaller userbase? Especially considering, that horror games, like REmake, RE0, RE4, and Zombie U, have never sold as well on Nintendo platforms as they have elsewhere.

RE4 sales doubled when it went back to the PS2, and RE5 sales more than doubled on the PS3 compared to the RE4 sales on Wii, eventhough the latter had a larger userbase.

The REmake is clearly made for a new audience, and platforms where it's likely going to sell better.

Both of those comparisons are unfair. The sales increased for the PS2 largely due to a much larger userbase, and comparing the sales of RE5 to the Wii RE4 port is just ridiculous.

I love RE Revelations on the 3DS and would prefere a Revelations 2 to REmake HD

Ehhh..
Well I just prefer people to work on actual new stuff instead of Remakes.
But I'm also the kind of person that is mostly more excited for new IPs than repeating ones. But I guess Capcom needs the money, so allright - it's not a bad thing. But the people working on it might do a great job on something new, too.

It's not
entirely
for profit. GC had a limited install base, and the original REmake was viewed as a failure by Capcom despite the elephant in the room. I'm not sure how the Wii port did, but I can imagine it too underperformed due to no marketing and having to deal with the worst demographic imaginable for that type of game. With the success of Resident Evil 4 in the market (*cough* PS2 *cough*), Capcom shifted to pursue games in that direction and abandoned the traditional title. This is after years of criticism of stagnation, poor controls, and other issues that applied to the classic titles.

However, now there's a resurgence of horror titles through Amnesia and Outlast. The Evil Within, success not guaranteed, is releasing in October and promising a return to survival horror (and led by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami). Capcom's latest entry, Resident Evil 6, suffered critically despite being their best selling title. With what seems to be growing interest in REmake in various communities the past couple of years combined with the above, Capcom is finding it an opportunity to not only take advantage of the remaster scene, but to test the waters on how well a multi-platform, traditional RE can do with little risk.

Yes, Capcom seems to be trying to cut as many corners as possible to get this out the gate. No, it's doubtful that the company will get the proper sampling to indicate how well a new retail title (or proper REmake) would do in the market. But this is progress, and a good thing.

Maybe there's no need for you or someone else to dip in again, but many people haven't played these games or would revisit them. And in the end, if it leads to Resident Evil reclaiming its identity, then its good news for everyone.

tl;dr: REmake on GC/Wii suffered due to platform. Capcom is testing the digital market while edging taking advantage of the remaster trend to see how a REmake would do today as multi platform with little to no risk to themselves.
