Kamen Rider SummonRide (PS3 / Wii U) - Skylander-like

This game came up in Toei's IP patent listing along with KR Drive back in May. The game is coming out December. There is no mention of what kind of game this will be, this is just marketing for the figures.

These are marketing scans.

Another hint of Gotta Catch’em All fever is thrown into Kamen Rider Summonride: a new Skylanders-esque game coming to PS3 and WiiU.

Much like Skylanders, the Rider figurines can be placed on a port or “Ride Gate” to summon the character in game, each figure will come in five different elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Light, and Darkness. Along with the figurines, Chips can be used to further add support to your character, from summoning Riders for an assist like Meteor and Fourze, or to power up your characters, the game will also have an Ability Link system that allows you to combo attacks.

Apparently, I read somewhere that the figures have some kind of backwards compatibility with Battride War 2, though that could be bullshit.

I'd like a Japanese equivalent, even though it wouldn't come here. Ugh importing figures would get costly.

Well it could give the games more sales, or make money off of the loyal ones that still buy stuff for collections.

Just a matter of time before they start doing a Skylanders-type Gundam game.

With the amount of possible figures they could churn out (if you include every possible mech, not just the Gundams), the amount from Skylanders and Disney Infinity combined is just a drop in the bucket.

This is one time I'm thankful I can't read Japanese because I'm so dead otherwise.

Edit: On the other hand, perhaps not. Unlike Nintendo characters, Kamen Rider had no shortage of good quality figures.

The game probably uses its own portal so the figures are compatible with both the PS3 and Wii U games.

Anyway, looking at the scans. There's five elements - Fire, Water, Wind (the green one that looks like grass), Light and Dark. There's also some kind of gashapon component where you get these buttons with the Rider form changes that, from what I can tell, you plug into the figures to power them up.

A Gundam Build Fighters game in that vein would make a lot of sense. NFC Gunpla would be crazy.

Nintendo should open their transfer thing to third parties IMO.

Huh? It's already open. Nintendo said they wanted 3rd-parties to use the NFC chip in the GamePad... actually, there's nothing preventing them from using it atm. 3rd-parties simply prefer to use their own system.

They probably prefer to develop their own scanners so they don't have to pay Nintendo a royalty cut on each figure sold.

*sees link, sighs* I wanted to post this as news, but since I wrote the original article I was pretty sure that was against some self-promotion rules. Oh well.

Yeah, I don't know what made Bandai-Namco decide to make this game but given it's a Skylanders wannabe, I'm betting that it'll make some money in Japan.

Yeah all this is actually in the original, lol. There's a Kyouka chip that creates power-ups, and a Nakama chip that summons extra riders.

Adjusted.

Regarding the scans, would you be able to tell if there's any mention of Battride War 2 compatibility in them? I remember someone mentioning in /krg/ when I first saw them.

I didn't do the translation, but I doubt it. You'd want to make this as a separate thing to attract as many new players as possible.
