Just put in 30 minutes over my lunch break. The game plays crazy well on the 3DS and looks incredibly fluid without the 3d on. Hard to believe this is running on what people call a third-tier technology.
Controls are a bit tough and took some time to get used to, but definitely doable with practice. Had trouble pulling off throws and shields on my 3DSLL but hopefully will improve with time / practice. I stuck with 'A' moves for the most part.
Mario, Link, and Pikachu all played better than I remember. Loving Villager and his Down+B, and not really a fan of Mega Man as he seems weak without well executed combos.
Overall, wow. Cannot wait for this weekend!

Mega Man is playing EXACTLY how I thought he was going to play. I played about 10 games on the Wii U version at Comic Con back in July but that's hardly sitting down with the game and characters.
The Slide is such a useful normal and Mega Upper may be the single most satisfying move to kill with. And I haven't even really started using his specials yet. This game, man. THIS GAME, MAN!
Also if you haven't gotten a grip for your 3DS, buy a grip!

I'm amused that you can apparently do all CPUs. If I'm seeing this right, there's a streamer doing nothing but CPU vs CPU vs CPU vs CPU matches and letting everyone watch them battle it out.
Does anyone have any good 3DS XL grip recommendations?

I'm genuinely upset that not only does japan get the game in like 3 days but they also get a demo, while us westerners are left hanging till october

Can you elaborate on the controls part? In my time with the game a couple of months ago, I found it to control just like the previous Smash games. Grab was the only thing I had to adjust to. Otherwise, the controls felt fine.

You can choose multiplayer, but no one else is around me with the demo right now to check lol.
Pretty much everything is greyed out except regular smash (and only time, 2 minutes) and smash facts

Tilts are a pain thanks to tap jump being on is pretty much it.
At least FD mode turns items off. Items are cancer
