I think it was in the Gamespot video where they said it was going to be a 40+ hour game.
If your PC can play it 1080p/60fps, just hook a controller and connect the PC to your TV.Damn. Ps4 or PC. Big tv or monitors. I guess I can just move it to the tv to play. lol
Don't think I'll ever get sick of that flurry kill:
It's just from earlier trailers so they turn the HUD off, other bits are from actual gameplay walkthroughs.Does the half of that gif suggest you can play with the UI off?

Definitely, sorry if that came off as me bagging on you for sharing it, the practice is just aggravating. I already pre-ordered for $30 anyway so I should probably quit watching videos as it is!Annoying for sure, but it is some decent footage.
Has there been any word on why the minimum and recommended HD space for the PC version?
You can't change any of your equipment, only power it up via runes.
It's open world, so there's a map to explore.
That was my initial thought but I figured we would end up with the same textures as current gen consoles. Would be nice if we are indeed getting higher res textures.Optional HD texture packs?
Ugh, okay. So it really is Assassin's Creed style of game. A map to explore with some side activities. Not sold.

I still don't know what this game entails aside from combat.
I really hope that's the case. They've been pushing the Nemesis System so hard in every video it makes it seem like working your way through the Orc hierarchy is all there is. It looks very fun, but there needs to be some structured missions in there as well.Yeah it seems like they're purposefully not showing any of the story missions especially. I kinda like that, they may not even be any good, but nice to see a developer who doesn't want to spoil/show too much of their main story.

IIRC, they said in that last gamespot video that you can indeed turn everything off for a more immersive experience.
I'm not sure if I will, though. I always want to, but worry I might miss something very interesting that I wouldn't be able to figure out by myself.
Ok, I am trying to board the hype train. Things I am curious about before I do so...
● The Nemesis system seems neat. But how does it impact things like mission design? How flexible is the system? Just how many types of my actions actually influence what happens? For example, if I slaughter a bunch of orcs in a particularly vicious way in front of some other orc and that orc escapes, will he tell of my exploits?
Then maybe you should look a little deeper...
● A lot of it looks like Assassin's Creed. One of the ways that worries me is in terms of combat. Basically, Assassin's Creed combat is atrocious and I am probably not going to get a ton of fun out of Shadow of Mordor if it emulates that. In what ways does the combat system differ? Is it an actual challenge? Are there difficulty modes to increase my challenge? Is the combat system flexible enough to be reasonably creative, and does it take real skill to master it?
Exactly. People who have had extensive hands-on have made it clear that this is not Assassin's Creed. There is a lot more going on with just the Nemesis system alone. But then there is all the mounts, etc.
As far as the combat goes, it is supposed to feel more like the Arkham series. But some previews have said that it goes even deeper with the wraith and ranger abilities you can pick and choose from, which there are supposed to be quite a few of. Some have even said that it might even feel better than playing the Batman games.
Also, people should not worry about it being some mindless button masher, as enemies will vary and have many different weakness that you must exploit. I have seen developers on the game screw up and get caught. Which of course makes the orc grow in power and even remember you.
● How big is the world supposed to be? If one were to compare the map in Shadow to that of other big games, where would it fit?
In the Gamespot video they say towards the end that this map is only a section of the game; not the whole game; I really hope there's more.
I like the premise of the game, the mechanics, animations; and the potential for a great experience. So far everything looks really good.
Monolith, in you guys we trust.

● What types of side missions are there? In open world games like this, secondary mission design can make or break the flow of an otherwise enjoyable game. Is there a lot of variety in mission types? Are they creative, or is it just always "go X place, kill Y individual"?
They've said how the story missions provide a lot of diversity from the normal Nemesis stuff we will be doing. We've only seen a SNIPPET of one of the story missions, where you're following Gollum's tracks through a non-linear cave system, complete with dangerous creatures inside. I can't wait to see what else we have in store.
I love that their keeping all of it a secret so we will all be able to experience it for the first time when it launches, but it would be nice if they could reassure us by letting us know there is a lot of story missions and non-Nemesis stuff.
● Have they discussed the amount of content in the game? Is it supposed to be a long game? Is it the now standard 8 hour max? Can a completionist expect to spend 20 or 30 hours? What's the range?
I don't have the timestamp, but at some point in this video the lead designer said they were shooting for about 20 hours.
Again, no timestamp, but the comments in this video mention 40 hours. That's crazy if they were able to beef it up that much.
Come on man, most of the answers have been in the last couple of pages.
Welp, the Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Steam forums have been open for a few hours and there's already a gold mine of "interesting" threads...

Hey guys, good news. Got ahold of the community manager of Monolith on Twitter (seems like a really nice guy, btw), and I asked him about whether v-sync was in, since we saw some pretty bad tearing in some of the more recent streams.
He said, "Can you send me the demo you're referring to? We'd love to research it. But, in our shipping build, we're not seeing any screen tearing, and absolutely have v-sync on!"
So, yeah, I'm happy. I hate screen tearing, so I was worried.
Haha. That's just sad.

I wonder if the PS4 version (or any non PC version at all) will be set at 60FPS. Monolith wanted to get those current gen versions on that quality, right?
I also asked him that. He said, "I know we're working to get as close to that as possible on PS4/XB1 but we have nothing to confirm atm."

A GAFer who played at PAX14 said it seemed to be a very solid 60fps to him. I guess we'll see for sure soon.

I second thatMiddle-earth: Shadow of Mordor |OT| Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orc.
