Final Fantasy XV tech demo presentation by Tabata (Demo gameplay details added)

Okay, so... one thing has really stuck out here in all of this FFXV. Has their been any news or confirmation of any playable females in the game? This series is known for good, strong female characters that are in the main cast and playable. For all of the years this game has bounced around, I don't recall any mention of one. Is the Bro-force really the only characters? Or are they being coy?

Full cast members of Final Fantasy games never get revealed until the last few months before the game ships.

As far as we know right now, the intro and story foundation of FFXV will be on the bro-force. You start with them, because they're your best friends x royal bodyguard crew. Whether or not they're the only ones, and if there'll be females in the crew is still unknown.

Interesting thought. I would imagine there will be but what do I know?

You have a problem with that hair? Not crazy enough for you I guess, since it's pretty towned down compared to the stuff you can find in the other FF games.

I don't know much about the game other than it looks absolutely incredible (graphically) and has a really tight, clean and coherent art direction.
That demo was beautiful to look at.

seriously, the hairstyles are pretty tame compared to the stuff in other FFs

Are the character designs close to being finalized? Everyone looks so damn boring wearing all black. It doesn't help that the color palette of the rest of the game looks to be dreary as shit.

I think it was here: http://finaland.com/?rub=site&page=news&id=4865

Finaland & FFDream: Thank you very much !

We’ve seen a lot of male characters with Noctis and his friends. Is there going to be girls as playable characters as well ?

Tetsuya Nomura: I can’t say anything specific now but it would be... quite difficult, to have a girl playable.

Pretty much. In the beginning the clothes were just inspired by a theme, but once they got the partnership with Roen, they seemed to have settled on what we see now.

Noctis' and Stella's outfits have been put on display before.

I would say that this was on a ps4/Dev kit.....anyone else notice the frame drops when he was overlooking everything after the first warp? It went pretty low which to me wouldn't happen if they were running a super beefed computer. Pretty sure this was legit demo

We have yet to see the rest of the game, so I'd definitely say it is way too early yet. There has been mention of different regions wearing different things, so look forward to that I guess. For all we know we may see new races or some such. Most of the focus so far has been Noctis and his hometown. I'd expect at least one really beautiful, natural looking place though. That's almost a given for any RPG these days.

I like how his collar moves according to his head movement.

No one really knows if there will be eventually female playables or not. I'm sure SE will spoil everything related to the game closer to release tho.

What we know regarding aesthetics :

Lucis named characters pretty much wear all modern black. That mafia visual identity.
Tenebra also has a modern aesthetic to their clothing ( as seen by Stella's outfits )
Niflheim has a fantasy look to their characters, with robes and magic armor knights.
Accordo has a Venice look to their architecture, but no idea about their fashion.
Solheim is unknown.

Do we even know if there will be MORE playable characters than Noctis's gang? Four characters for a four-slot party and a four-seated car. All wearing black. It seems it could be "enough".

It's a shame the recent games' voice direction and translation have been so sterile and cliched. This game's atmosphere and tone will be three times as obnoxious with typical anime VAs and clunky lines added to the mix - I guess it's too much to hope for them to hire Alex O. Smith's company to assist with the translation?

yeah this is my biggest worry about the localization. hoping we can get something along the lines of catherine (vincent and his pals). i've always thought one of the best things about the game was that particular group dynamic, which owes all its charm to the voice work: it was very fluid, natural sounding and most of all it was believable. immersing yourself into their world of woes was effortless

There's still Cor, plus I'm pretty sure it is - at least was - confirmed you'd get more playable characters.

Not that I mind having a fixed party

What does that mean? Like national pride, or like representation in a now Western dominated industry?
A bit of both since Japan usually lags behind when it comes to graphics and how awesome it is that SE is achieving such a good looking game showing that they can compete on a worldwide stage. And that they are proud of it :)

Hope they add a Photo Mode in FFXV. Scenary looks amazing, and loving the wet look

Once they said that Noctis could use his phone to make photos (long time ago, so it doesn't really mean anything now).

Personally, I think they'll add that feature and you'll also be able to share picture on social networks.

Guys I really hope Stella is playable :(.

Spoiling that would suck so BAD!!

Tabata has been pretty reserved when talking story and major events himself but I am so afraid of SE's extended spoilerific campaign.

Goddammit I don't wanna know the final boss before I even play.

I really hope they'll keep some surprise for the release day... the XIII-2 campaign was really bad, before the release we already knew every location, character, minigame, etc.

Honestly I'm glad they won't include bosses in the demo.

The only scenario I'd accept her not being playable in is if she's a major antagonist. Final Fantasy as a series needs more women in significant antagonistic roles.

Or if she dies :(

Not that his company couldn't, but this doesn't look like the kind of game he'd be affiliated with for the style he does the best.

I wouldn't count on it for a mainline title.

It's Final Fantasy. A mainline one at that.

Every single Japanese games magazine will be publishing the smallest bit of new information as a blockbuster [NEW FINAL FANTASY XV DETAILS! NEW CHARACTER REVEALED! ETC!] every month.

It's the fate of Final Fantasy marketing. You can't escape that marketing cycle.

Let's see if square fuck up and release it in Japan first, than the rest of the world like 6 months later. it's so annoying..

3 months later in the worst case scenario. And who knows maybe they'll release it worldwide with japanese/english audio option. That would be nice, I really hope SE will surprise me that way.

Obviously there are mixed opinions about this stuff, but I think FFXIII is amongst the best looking third party PS3 games, and Capcom's AAA stuff was absolutely on par with the West visually.

I'd love for FFXV to be the beginning of an onslaught of AAA console RPGs out of Japan, but it's not going to happen, but it's nice that people are excited about the prospect I guess.
