In one hand, it makes sense to have RNG considering we can't trade anything and there's no die roll system implemented. At the same time, you'd think the raid would be more rewarding to people returning to do it again and getting better at it. I'm going to be upset if I get more boots.

Welcome to the curse of an MMO type raid...Oh Judgement spaulders, why do you hate me so, even 9 years later.

Well, it's down to these two:

New review in! 10/10 from Cryptarch Times. 'A masterpiece,' says Rahool

or

Cave Story

I don't know what the latter is referencing, so its meaning is lost on me.

I got you.

I vote cave story.

to me it's a joke between farming the cave and getting better rewards then actually playing the game, and that there is a game called cave story out there where you are underground a lot adventuring.

I'm on the fence about if raid gear drops need to rely on RNG. Prizes like the ship can remain RNG, but what you need to level light? I can't decide on what I think.

Wait. Can you get drops from the raid multiple times a week?

What's the trick to do the boss solo? I need my damn coins. Was able to do it all easily until the boss. My solar fusion rifle is amazing in this strike though
There is this spot too.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ensisBsQ7SM

Dificult to reach but the guy said you receive no damage there... I tried and one enemy managed to kill me once with a headshot but I'm a Sunsinger (aka most close to God or Immortal you can reach in the game... you are you own support team).

What is a man?

Might want to consider yourself lucky >_<

I just feel like any title referencing the cave is pretty boring and not just a little misleading. the idea that that static farming in one spot for engrams must or should be a notable part of your experience with this game is a fucking riot from my perspective.

<3

I came up with Cave Story and I don't think its that clever, but a title referring to the cave isn't necessarily implying it is an important part of the game, but rather pointing out how ridiculous it is that some people spend the majority of their time with the game there.

I see where you're coming from now. I personally fucking loathe this style of "reward" and RNG never, ever, ever seems to favor me among my friends in these scenarios. By the nature of probability (if unweighted behind the scenes), the fact that it's a 1 in 1000 roll, each time, not a sequential (raffle) draw, means that I could do it 1001 times without getting that special weapon. It doesn't make me feel like I'm trying; it makes me feel like I'm failing, and not making any progress.

I'm not looking forward to having to rely on RNG again to get raid gear to get from 29 to 30. Being familiar with my luck at these things, it will probably take me a very long time. But Destiny has enabled me to progress further and more consistently without needing to rely on RNG at all than many, many other games.

Yeah but you can have both =p Marks and the ability to buy these standardized, but not always great legendaries from the shops to keep you progressing, and the rep rank rewards don't have to vanish when you improve the RNG. Giving strikes proper rewards and making legendary engrams either have a higher chance, or be guaranteed legendary wouldn't hurt that at all. People that are down on their luck would still have the fallbacks to make general progress, and once they get past that initial wall and get into that real endgame stage, it would be more bearable.

The strike playlist, and non Nightfall/Heroic strikes in general, can't provide nice things. They simply, straight up, cannot.(Edit: I've said it before, but to clarify I can't really count random mob engram drops, since that exists elsewhere at the same rate) Bosses that cannot drop you shinies. Reward screens that cannot give you anything but blues. Even if it was a very low chance, would it not be better if these bosses/reward screens had exclusive exotics, or at least exotics that could come from them as well? Something to keep people trying, and to reward people that do. Something to work toward, even if luck isn't on your side =)(Edit: This sounds wrong, I don't mean if luck fails you, you get something. But that even if you're not actually getting it, it's there and you know it so you can keep trying.)

It feels to me like you've felt like I'm attacking every part of the system and want everything overhauled and that's not really the case at all.

The core changes I would love to see are the following:

1) PvP rewards having a higher weight for higher ranks. Low ranks remain as is, high placements have a better chance. This just gives people something to work toward and what harm does it actually cause?

2) Give strikes something to keep people coming back. When we thought Hawkmoon and Monte Carlo would come from Dust Palace, that was cool. Why not make it so? Still leave them available via engrams and crucible, but give us a reason to go back to Dust Palace and give us a way to actually try getting them. Even if it's unlikely.

3) Improve legendary engrams. Make them either an even higher chance, or preferably guaranteed to be at least legendary. Making general progress through to the legendary tier is already easy. But improving upon your gear is well, an abysmal experience frankly. This improvement would mean you're getting something shiny frequently and that keeps hopes up and keeps things fun. Getting 10 blues from 10 legendary engrams is like, heartbreaking, and makes it all feel futile.

Any given legendary is capable of numerous overall states with all those modifiers, so there's actually plenty of possible variety. And the only downside I could see is that this would mean more ascended materials, but people would more likely be cycling out gear more often and needing to upgrade new pieces too. And if it became a real problem, increase the cost to upgrade to balance with the influx of mats.

---

Marks would still be there, the existing methods of earning things would still be there, these would just improve the other things and make it so there are a lot more high notes and happy moments to keep people going, instead of draining and depressing experiences haha.

No, it's still once a week. And yeah, having it drop randomly...you either get shards or something....eh, it's not gonna be good for the game in the long run. People don't want to do a 4 hour challenge for a CHANCE of new gear.

If you aren't ready to do raid multiple times when hunting specific item them raiding isn't for you and just should drop idea of doing it right now. Raids and bosses always have certain loot tables from which you get items, getting "right" ones will require time and dedication.

Welcome to raiding, it's not ride where you cherrypick rewards.

It doesn't take anywhere near 4 hours your second time through. Took us 1 hour and 11 minutes (I looked) to do it our second time and that was with breaks where we went afk for a few minutes and we were messing around
in the cave and got spotted a few times...

BUT my biggest problem with Destiny is I am level 29 with fully upgraded legendaries. I can no longer go any higher without getting a lucky RNG drop from a raid. I can only do the raid once a week so there's really just nothing for me to do to improve at the moment since I've already done the raid for the week...

dude. overwhelming visual and auditory stimulation? like the game looks and sounds really good and that's stressful to you?
That's not what stimulation means. There are flashing lights, loud sounds, constant noise. Personally I played WoW with sound turned off, it didn't really need it. Destiny has a lot of audio queues that you have to rely on to perform well.

More relaxed with more downtime...? Are you playing with the wrong people or what, just take it at the pace you feel like! I've been able to blow off plenty of steam and even made some new friends through this game. It's been a fucking blast so far.
Maybe? I don't know. However WoW dungeon design leads to a lot of sitting around doing nothing. You wait between mob pulls, you wait for people to regen mana and HP. There is a lot more down time between encounters in WoW.

more demanding direct control, like... the gameplay is more skill-based? I mean it's a shooter...
I guess maybe? Honestly I think this issue is more complex and extends far beyond the scope of this discussion.

and a more grueling experience than a WoW raid... doesn't that require 40 people? Forty... people? you are refilling my brain's strategic reserves of fuck with this post right here.
WoW raids don't need 40 people raids anymore, and maybe I am wrong on this. However in comparison raids in WoW are a marathon compared to sprints in Destiny. One takes a lot of time and patience, the other takes a lot of effort in a shorter span of time. However if you fuck up in Destiny it becomes both.

That's on you and all of your assumptions.

Yeah the strike, I'm not sure it's possible to do nightfall solo just because you need someone to watch your back with the Minotaur spawning if you don't jump off the cliff and you'd probably need help getting to the boss too, but level 22 is easy and I imagine level 26 isn't too difficult either.

It's possible. Gotten to him twice. Just need to cheese him from above. Not the cave but above him.

It won't be 4 hours with a competent group consistenting of members that all know the strategies (and eventually exploits if that's your cup of tea) for every encounter. Hasn't there already been a <1 hour speedrun?

yeah alright, I can dig that. I just hope there aren't newbies that ask about it, have the cave location described or linked to them, and get the impression that's how they should be playing.

Hit lvl 26 last night. Excited to check out what Xur has for Hunters this weekend and still need to get enough marks to buy another legendary from the Vanguard.

It is cumulative.

So you just need to have two or more kills in a row to increase the counter... two deaths in a row decrease.

I ended the first match with 12 k/d even so my k/d of the match was only 3... that is because I didn't get killed two times in a row so my counter never decreased.

It is easy to be fair.

PS. If you make a group of 6 to play one vs one you guys will reach it in one match... but even without boost it is really easy.

I hear it counts assists. Just play conservatively. Control is probably a good game mode for it. I wish I'd get this bounty

Cool thanks guys, this helps!

You mean 37 minutes?
Uhhh.....

I raid on WoW. I know about spending time. The difference is when you get guaranteed loot, someone in your party WILL get better gear. Which will help you the next week. I'd rather have that and not get loot, rather than a chance of getting loot and it being something I might not need.

And yeah, other than doing the hard mode, there's nothing to do after the raid. Sure you can wait for the Iron Banner to make use of your gear...but even still, there's a fine line between being a challenge or being a grind. I'd say if you can get the same group or an experience group you can do it pretty fast.

I appreciate your perspective here, thank you for taking the time. It's pretty interesting to see all the different perspectives approaching this game and trying to get the most out of it. Nearly every single point you have raised here reads to me like a point in favor of Destiny-style raiding over WoW-style for my personal preferences.
If you aren't ready to do raid multiple times when hunting specific item them raiding isn't for you and just should drop idea of doing it right now. Raids and bosses always have certain loot tables from which you get items, getting "right" ones will require time and dedication.

That's how I've always understood what raiding is. I've never really had the opportunity before because I'm a) not really hardcore, probably wouldn't get a "slot" with a raiding guild and b) the emphasis on memorization over skill in traditional MMO raiding is very off-putting to me.
WoW raids haven't required 40 people in over. like, 6 years.
My mistake, I apologize. How many?

That line might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard in a video game.

Man I liked that line :/. That bad thing about it is that by that time the game has already ingrained how much it isn't going to tell you into your skull.

I feel like that line could have been gold in the right scenario.

Anyone bought Crucible gear yet? Is there a cap on the amount of marks I can have? Because suddenly my glimmer got capped.

Also as a Hunter, does anyone focus on a single stat or do you mix it up? Im not sure what I like better, my main focus is pvp.

Only have like 24 coins but I wasn't planning on buying a weapon from him anytime soon. Need the gear and already have a decent legendary scout rifle and legendary everything else.
