IT all comes down to what happens over Oct through Dec. MS have the extra exclusives but Im not seeing them match the crazy sales of the PS4 for last month. They might come close as Sony really don't have much else to promote this Christmas..that said they don't really have to.

I was about to say that last statement. PS4 appears to be the console of choice this gen. At least it seems to be that way for the mass market. Now that should not keep XB1 from be profitable as long as MS make strides to do so. My main concern for XB1 (as a gamer) would be if support for it will remain throughout the gen from 1st, 3rd parties and indies.

It can be hard to tell in September whether a boost can be accredited to a particular game or the normal increase from August. I would say Destiny PS4 is a clear system seller (especially with the bundle info), as was Halo 3, which saw a significant sales drop for 360 the next month. While an increase in October isn't certain, like from October->November, it historically seems to be the case or at the least sales remain relatively the same from September.

Curious to see how PS4 will fair in October.

Keep in mind the Destiny bundle is still at retail in October.

Personal experience... People I play with online are of my same age group, and my direct sample is my Job, which consist of IT professionals most in the early to mid 30s.

I wasn't inferring a blanket statement to speak of a generational gap regarding purchasing preference, however trying to correlate the other poster and my experience to some attributing factor such as age. Maybe its the field we are in. Could be any factor, but age usually comes to mind first.

could be age as all my mates we met on PS2 so we all have PS4s as we are all in our early to late 40s (some in 50s)

So I believe overall sales since launch (NPD) are:

PS4: 4.49 Million
Xbox One: 3.49 Million
Wii U: 3.54 Million

Xbox One should top Wii U sometime this year. PS4 has a one million lead over Xbox One.

you are way off, Xbox One passed Wii U during Titanfall month

After 11 NPD months:

Wii: 4.53m
PS4: 4.49m

PS2: 3.75m
XBO: 3.49m

Wii October 2007: 519k / 5.05m first year.

Maybe Sony can give away some free PS4 this month to match that.
PS4 disappoints again.

jesus christ ps4

Just think of it this way, this month's NPD would have been boring as shit without Pachter's insane comments.

Gotta spice it up a bit every now and then.

You shouldn't need to worry about 3rd party support. Doubt the indies will support it though, especially if they keep the parity clause.

No, it's just that the GTAV Euro bundle is just your standard bundle at the usual price, 439€.
SCEA is probably doing some kind of promotion around launch or directly for Black Friday week, (I'm thinking about the white PS4+GTAV at 399$ for BF) so it's too early for them to announce it.
Just like Microsoft hasn't played all their cards, I'm sure you'll be able to get the XB1+ Halo Collection + Forza Horizon 2 + Sunset Overdrive at 399$ by the end of November.

Give me that and 12 months of xbox live and I am in.

Compared to last gen (first September):

Xbox360 - 527k
PS3 - 119k

So PS4 did about expected and Xbox One did way better than 2nd place last gen (if we just look at the HD consoles). Pretty good for Sony and fantastic job for MS, really turning things around. Lots of momentum leading to Halo and Call of Duty in November.

Also the One almost doubles last month's sales, from 160k -> ~285k

Lol

The Wii exceeded this September number once in its lifecycle and that was an unprecedented sales phenomenon, the PS2 never. I'm not sure how that's a low bar.

This is a really good hardware month, I don't really know why one would want to spin it as bad or mediocre.

Look at his post history and you'll understand why. He is a warrior to the bone.

What's with the ~ sign?

?

How do you define that--because there are already a bunch of ID@Xbox games and it's not like every indie does the same as everybody else.

He just says this crap to make the internet go bonkers, there's no way he can tell this stuff to hos actual clients....right?

Is this a joke?

Sorry, I don't know anymore....

Nope. Destiny didn't sell better than Halo 3's first month. :-(

But like I said, it still sold great considering it's a new, unproven IP...especially considering September is *not* the holiday season and sales will inevitably ramp up.

Is that also counting DD sales .
Not saying it sold more just wondering how much the number is.

Because hardware isn't "how well did the best selling console do?", its "How well did hardware sell?".

This isn't a really good hardware month, because the market leader is selling good and everything else is -at best - underperforming
I'm not sure what exactly you're benchmarking the 284K the XBO did against to consider it underperforming.

The 3DS and handheld market is being eaten away by the advent of smartdevices. People in these threads have been speaking to that for years.

And the Wii U is an utter dud. So much so that 90K is phoenix-like. So yes, in those regards expectations have certainly been lowered.

But this was a healthy month for dedicated console sales.

And your comment specifically referred to the PS4's number as only just meeting apparently lowered expectations. And that's nonsense.

For who exactly?

EDIT:

My "I think they're pretty bad" was a reply to the "in any other september Xbox one sales are great", not about the PS4.

I'm benchmarking against the second best selling consoles and overall market sales.

EDIT to EDIT:
So, yeah, WiiU being a dud, handhelds being a dud, last gen sales falling off a cliff to me doesn't equal "great hardware sales"

Pachter is awesome. God I hope he decides to join GAF at some point.

Obviously. This is Destiny we're talking about. Activision's $500 million behemoth with a RIDICULOUSLY MASSIVE advertising campaign?

Odd, it always seemed Watch_Dogs had the bigger marketing.

I recall Ubi touting it as the biggest new IP launch of all time :3

Either way, Destiny outselling it is wonderful.

No. And Destiny probably had a good amount of digital sales...much more than Halo 3 would have back in 2007.

Lol, was digital downloading full games even possible then?

Didn't you say newer titles were at 25-30% digital? So whatever Destiny did at retail add another 25% or so. +1 since I was one of those preloaded fools filling the OT with cries of 12:00amPsT waiting

I'm pretty sure it was....until Destiny.
