so

ps4 - 1.1m
xb1 - 875,000
360 - 575,000
ps3 - 250,000

So there are more Xbox gamers playing Destiny than PS owners in America. PS3 has been pretty weak post-PS4 launch with cross-platform games. It seems that one MS executive was right when he said PS3 owners are looking to upgrade to next-gen (PS4) while 360 owners are happy with keeping their 360 and not upgrading yet.

That's because that gaming has been bigger within consumers than it ever has before since the Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 era.

Not particularly, no.

You guys saying Destiny XB1>PS4 do know that's the stand alone version only right?

Bundled copies are not included in that.
That's funny, when people were talking about Xbox One exclusive sales, digital and bundles never seemed to enter the equation when people "talked" about it.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
That's not a good sign for Destiny that it sold the most on XBO (outside bundles), because the fact that MCC is coming to XBO makes it most likely that XBO owners will ditch Destiny first.
MS was handing the game out for free with all new Xbox One purchases. There's still more PS4 owners with the game than there are Xbox One owners playing.

Oh people will start to ditch Destiny. Especially when other big games start coming out. The only reason people would keep playing is for multiplayer maybe, but the XBone will have MCC, and COD will start eating into that player base once that comes out as well.

Not sure how much staying power Destiny will have until the xpac comes out. Maybe a big group of people will go back for that (me not being one of them).
Call of Duty is the one that is really going to hurt it. But that mostly goes without saying. Not much you can do against that. I'd imagine Destiny would still be more popular for multiplayer than the MCC on Xbox One. I'd genuinely be surprised if it wasn't.

PS4 has been underwhelming as the market leader for several months (LTD was always great due to BIG start, so just talking about the monthlies here). Then this month, it blew past what would've been expected from a market leader without a big price cut. Make up for underwhelming months? Flash in the pan? Start of the real next-gen?

:lol

This has been a very strange gen, so far (compared to past gens)!

I said the same earlier.

Just weird.

Depending on the next few months Sony might be able to build up a lead of nearing 2 million units in MS largest market in a year,

Halo 3 had no digital sales at all. From earlier posts, it seems like big games like destiny could have potentially sold 25% or more digitally, which is not tracked. Overall, I think Destiny beats halo in monthly sales.

As someone who lives in Europe and bought the game digitally through the US PSN I can safely say there is a market in the United States for digital goods that will never show up on NPD. That 30% price difference.

Wasn't there also a PS3 Destiny bundle? Wonder if that did anything, given that the PS3 is quickly approaching being dead at retail.

And I, for one, welcome our new lower budget, non-focus-group-tested-publisher-meddled-homogenized-shit-packaged-"AAA"-game overlords. Indie/small studio revolution!

but indie developers will most benefit from a freer environment. they're going to be leading the future in a console-less world. the less people rely on the aaa market, the less relevance the traditional industry has.

What do you mean? Are you referring to Madden, because even with Bundles, the PS4 version of that still sold more.

I can't believe a game with such mediocre reviews is the best-selling game of the year.

Bobby needs to give his marketing team a raise . . . they were able to sell mediocre to a HUGE audience.

I don't think activision will mind that players are leaving one of their games to buy another one of their games. I'm sure most of them will be brought back in December when the DLC launches.

I understand that, I just think Destiny is going to remain very popular on Xbox One. It's been incredibly successful.

If most of those fans buy MCC, I just don't see how they will stick with Destiny. What exactly makes Destiny superior in any way to Halo 1-4 in a singular package with a singular bulk PvP setup of all map and game-type choices? I don't care if you've played those games before on Xbox and 360 at 480p/30 or 720p/30, you've never done it all in one single package of 1080p/60 with all multiplayer map choices available. I just don't see how a singular Bungie developed game competes with a package providing 3 Bungie developed games in one.

I'm wondering how much of that 875K Destiny Xbox One copies were paid for by Microsoft with their promotion. Seems maybe 100Kish?

If total is 3 million and PS4 bundle sold 300k, standalone versions are at ~2.7m

So is ~945k on Xbox One. I think 100k is a good bet.

Yep, still talk to customers daily about the game over a month after release. The vast majority of buyers are still playing it a LOT as has been shown by the data Bungie has released.

Destiny doing this well is fantastic news for the industry. It shows there is still plenty of room for new IP to grow and for publishers to take risks on them.

I think that Destiny will entertain a certain audience for a long damn time, the game has it's recipe for longevity down I think. The people that are waiting for the MCC collection to come out are not part of that group. The people who have the Chief Collection pre-ordered at the moment are probably pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Halo (haven't seen a commercial for it yet.) But, depending who you are, for better or for worse, Destiny was not Halo.

fake edit: took me 3 tries to get knowledgeable correct, come at me Webster.

I honestly think the combo of Call of Duty plus MCC will make people move away from Destiny; not just MCC.

There will still be many playing Destiny though.

Of course not. Activision can basically laugh as hard as they want for the next several months.

Because they're still just a bunch of old games.

The other possibility is its a good game that a lot of people are still enjoying. Reviews aren't everything.

Yes the reviews these days are especially mediocre, luckily there's twitch, YouTube. Noone takes those faux journalists seriously these days

Then he should seriously consider keeping mum on the matter from here on out because it seems like he has less knowledge about how the gaming industry runs then some folk here on GAF.

He's asked by a client to ballpark it, usually. It's just as relevant as if you or I do it. It's us idiots that put stock in it and post it bloody everywhere that cause this problem.

I wonder how much the X360 is negatively impacting the X1 at this point - in terms of hardware and software sales. Software is still strong for the X360 and hardware sales are still decent. The PS3 dropped off a cliff in the US following the PS4 launch.

Any idea how low the number is for Kinect XB1s in September? I have to wonder if the percentage has been getting lower and lower each month since June.
