Assassin's Creed Unity Leaker calls out to Neogaf/provides clarification on graphics

I've bought every AC game so far, AC2, AC:B twice each.

After this crap with AC:U, I will be buying Ubisoft games 'used' once they hit ~$30 or less now. I know it doesn't support the developers, but I can't support a publisher that doesn't give a shit about it's customers either.

I'll be doing pretty much the same.

I'm buying Unity used. Screw Ubi.

I like most Ubi games, but I can't support their behavior.

All things considered, a 700kb screencap of ACU is better than most shitty screenshots hosted elsewhere. Game is blurry, probably looks better in motion (like most games).

Is there a retail copy? If so, buy it used.

If not, oh well. Many other games to enjoy out there.

From another leaker:

Framerate plutot stable, j'ai juste eu 2 leger " lag " pendant une cinématique et pendant gameplay, mais le temps de me faire la reflexion cetait deja finit.

Traduction:

Framerate is rather stable. I only experienced two lags during a cinematic, but they didn't last long.

He's playing on ps4.

Even if Ubisoft didn't, people will still rip their shit because people will always expect more and better. It's just that they did and lied which is why the reaction from people is over the top. I don't blame the people though but damn, some are insane. After all this talk even if the game turned out to look great, you'd think they will buy the game? some of them are never intending on buying the game. Looking good or not was never relevant.
sure, if it turns out it looks good, runs good and the gameplay systems have been overhauled quite a bit, i'll buy it. it's not like i'm on a crusade against ubisoft considering that i've played all the mainline assassin's creed games so far

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Screenshots SHAREd to twitter or Facebook don't retain the Device make/model and Color profile metadata.
Well those aren't Facebook uploads, who said they was?
Btw I just been looking at my Watch_Dogs captures, exactly the same.
But Watch_Dogs looks better in motion, perhaps ACU is the same? it definitely has the same fuzzy look to it.

For all the bluster, sound and fury Ubisoft has had record profits IIRC (Up 65%? Correct me if I'm wrong, Ubisoft employee). Stoking hype and not giving a shit about the blowback has seemed to work out for them so far.

No, but it's easy to laugh at people who keep buying into the pre release hype bullshit. It's the same story with the same games from the same companies over and over.

Yeah, see this what I don't get. What does all this complaining lead to? Do they expect a different result if people scream a little louder? Because its shown time and time and time again that the pre-release misdirection is going to keep happening.

Im legitimately curious about this, I dont mean to come off as insensitive, but a lot of folks seem real upset over basically nothing.

You should probably edit that word out Pj.

I only played AC 1 - 3 and skipped on Revelations, Brotherhood and Black Flag (Considered the best in the series, did so because I was focused on GTA5) so, I'm excited for Unity because I haven't played an AC game since 3.

I have to say, I can sympathize with the leaker. It reminds me when someone gave me that big batch of TLOU PS4 screenshots before the release and I posted them in here. They were all made with the PS4 Share feature and the initial reaction wasn't all that positive, but I'm sure that most people were pretty happy once they got to play it.

Maybe the screenshot functionality isn't the best way to release media for a game.

The complainers will always be the minority in a sea of billions of people however, it doesn't mean they don't make a splash, a big or small one matters and you bet your ass the developers/publishers are reading for better or worse.

And all the same forum? And not 1 Gaffer has it
At least one gaffer has it. As they commented in the other forum and noted that the screenshots are not what the actual game looks like.

Hey guys. I can confirm that Unity looks much better than what those screens show. And the framerate has been solid so far on Ps4.

Those project-less Ubisoft staff that get shipped to the abandoned aircraft hangar or whatever probably have nothing to do but read NeoGAF, yeah.

I have never actually ate a Burger at MCDonalds that looked like this:

Companies lie to you to sell their product. It is everywhere you look and go. And screenshots for games is the easiest way to sell you a lie. Sorry it is just how it is. Of course it sucks, but you should know by now.

Except that there is a difference between lying for the apparence of a burger, but not the content. Lie all you want on the cover of the game, but if you tell me your game perform this way, and it does not then it's a problem. Lying on graphical quality in a game is like lying about the performance of a car and hoping nobody actually try to go to 200 km/h.

So have probably 95% of all AAA games released in the last 10 years in at least one set of Screenshots. Get over it, it is not just big evil Ubisoft that does this.
It seems like you're quite bothered by this. Go relax I can tell you're a fan. Stay away from these threads and enjoy the game when released. I won't be buying it though.

EA recently got off scot-free for lying about the quality of BF4. That court decision will only embolden developers and publishers to do more deceptive bullshit. It will only get worse.

I'm still here you know. And I really don't appreciate being accused of working for ubisoft. Marcel only revealed that I couldn't answer a question in an effort to derail the thread and cause drama.

Aside from the morality question on what Marcel did... It does make me wonder if you have some other interest in promoting this game than just "passion" if this is such a big secret.

Many here have played the game at shows and it has not been a big deal.

Yikes. I'm sure its great in motion but this does look like a downgradeton. Especially from whats been shown so far. Those textures look way off.

Oh boy, that is quite a difference. Ha.

Even the main characters clothes look blurry in the other shot. And I don't mean because of the crap IQ, the textures look like ass.

Regardless of the intent of the message it was still a PM. PMs should not be out in the open, I have two jobs. Neither of them involve working directly for Ubisoft.

He answered to you, Gaf. (it isn't really related to the game and doesn't want to fight on the technical issues though)

To NeoGAF, an answer straight from the heart of a gamer ...

Hello guys, finally here is rather "good evening",

Well I bother to answer me even if it was recommended. I'll try to give you some explanations and I sincerely hope that deep inside you there is still a little more gamer inspired by the fun and adventure by the number of pixels on a screen. Before going further in reading my post, I ask you to take a human posture because it is a part of my life that I give you ...

As I said earlier - and I thank Woen and Crossing Eden for relaying my messages (my Neogaf account is not activated yet) - I find the game really nice AC Unity on several points. No I am not a developer at Ubisoft or member of the press. I am a civil servant who likes to play on his free time.

Before I give you details about the game I'll allow me a small digression to tell you my story. Indeed, to evaluate a context you must have all the informations in the hands, right?

Well I am 28 and I play for as long as I can remember. I do not come from a rich family but my parents have always made an effort to give their children every generation consoles and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I was able to play almost every console since I was born and especially since I am able to handle a pad;-). And I must admit that I'm pretty good;-) (joke actually I do not know).

Brief... I continue my story : I spent so many hours playing that I probably missed a good time with people. But hey (!) it does not prevent me to have a great social life up there either because I like to meet people and discuss a lot of topics.

I am often asked why I am so attracted to video games? Do you ever asked yourself this question? For me it is because I need to dream in life, I need to live epic adventures... more intense than in books and movies. Yes a book tells us a story, a film shows us a story but video game allows these two things while allowing us to interact - and this is just beautiful! Many people of the "older generation" do not understand this but - video games are an open door to the imagination of a developer / writer / studio and that's incredible. Interact in a work outcome of someone's mind, it fascinates me! I believe that creativity and imagination of a person is one of the most important things in an individual. Einstein said that "imagination is more important than knowledge" ... I agree with the old man with a mustache;-). And you, what do you think?

Well I continue my story... In life I struggle a lot... I fought to succeed and I have overcome insecurity, hunger, cold, indifferent, disease and being very creative in a world where people are quite closed is difficult (status and qualifications above all), I am struggling to locate sometimes. Fortunately the video game allowed me to dream, to have fun when the pressure was too much and I managed in part thanks to it.

I have done many jobs: working in a dump, warehouse, employee at McDonalds where I clean the toilet ..., humanitarian (in Africa where I've seen people tear, be jailed and died for reasons that go beyond the "problem" of the resolution in a video game ...) and I ended up getting a stable job with long studies - paid out of my pocket - a job that still allows me to work for the good for the largest number.

Unfortunately my social ascent was abruptly stopped there a few months. I worked 14 hours a day, no holidays, no recognition or support and my body finally let me go. I had a stroke the 21 March 2014 at the age of 28 ... and I've only experienced months of hell ... Lying on a bed six months I was able to keep morale through video games. Yes it's the only thing I could do and it really made me mad though. Well it was not always rosy for some days I had a true allergy of screens. Yes it's really weird and it's one of the worst things that can happen to a gamer ... As I almost died I told myself "you should have fun dude!" and I invested in gear to deliver me to my passion : PC gamer, 4K TV, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U ... short enough to give a gamer a great time, all adding to other consoles like the SNES or Dreamcast.

As you can see, the video game is very important to me. As I want to integrate the environment I even created a small website but hey my fragile health prevents me to feed myself and the website is almost down now. Nobody knew it... It's a shame because I would really offer an alternative to existing web sites ... In fact, as I am an avid video game player, I have a little trouble with all your reactions even if the plurality of opinions is a wealth. When I see the evolution of our favorite media I'm sad. It became a hard-core business and passion gradually disappears. The media sector are too complacent and do not do their job of "watchdog" ;-) (they condone games kit, war pixels, etc). And what saddens me greatly is that the video game industry has become a real cleavage and trollage sector. It's war between console gamers and PC users and between consoles players themselves. I'm an adult and I have to stop being naive ... but I can not stand it. Where is the dreamer and fun side of the early days? Why is it that the media - which is supposed to take us and make us dream - to become like the rest of society: a world of hatred and communities? Otherwise I am also writing a book about video games ... I hope one day to finish it;-).

I resume the thread of my story: the Assassin's Creed series is a series that interests me since those early days. I like the basic idea is rather ingenious relive the life of an ancestor through our DNA. Well after so many episodes, the story is so diluted that it becomes damage. But hey, I like to go after a story ...

Being French, born in Paris, I have long dreamed of playing an assassin in the most beautiful city in the world. Ubisoft permits it, and during the famous French Revolution! The gamer in me is intrigued. So I could get my hands on a copy of the game, finding it on a website that offers good deals, hand in hand. I did 1h30 journey to get him and 1:30 to return. In my medical condition is a feat because I had not set foot outside for 6 months. But hey if you are a hard gamer, you can understand the need to get your hands on a game that makes us want! When I got home I threw myself feverishly on my console, "nothing else mattered". The game first! Once the game is installed I took my controller with a heavy heart, put on my helmet and it was gone. From the first moment I was captivated by the story and for me it is the most important point in a game. The gameplay is also successful I could go deeper in the game. Once in the streets of Paris I saw that it was not the level of official screenshots ... but hey guys ... should'nt you not be aware of? We always embellishes what is to selli. Do not be naive. Every day you buy products that do not necessarily resemble the finished product ... Everything around us is false. You sell yourself probably more beautiful than you are ... ;-)

Please note that the game is beautiful in its own way because more than 4K, 1080p or TXAA or something else - it offers us more : life, density and a huge Paris. As such you should know that differs from the usual open worlds. Everything is condensed because it is a city that offers us. Narrow streets, quaint interior is all there for you to transcribe the Paris of the Revolution. And that's a success. Personally I enjoy wandering around, listen to the conversations. I don't stop myself against a wall to count pixels. It would be a shame to do that ... but hey everyone its way to consume a game..., right? I do not know if the game will receive a patch or another but if it look the same the 13th november, I don't care. The key for me is to have fun! Ask yourself this question ladies and gentlemen : do you enjoy playing when you spend your time counting the pixels on your screen? Do you think this is the purpose of a video game? If these are the graphics you want, maybe it reflects that there is a part in your personality which prefer the appearance before the being ...? I do not know, I let you do some soul searching.

Yes the game is not perfect ... but what game is? Give me a list so I can see if I agree with you and confront our views (NeoGAF active my account !!!) But I am convinced that the vast majority of you will enjoy playing the game...

GAFeurs and friends, we come to the confrontation of two perspectives: for me it is the story before everything else, for you it is the look ... Who is right? I do not know ...

I thank in advance those who will bother to post my answer. I look forward to reading your answers. Please be courteous, present arguments. Show that video game players are anything but trolls ....

Be aware that this "little adventure" raises a lot of questions in my heart ... The main issues - one that haunts me since my stroke - is what is the meaning of life? Should I do not waste my time playing video games and discuss it? Are there not more important things to do in life? Tonight I should have doing - or I could have doing - other thing than answer to people who will laugh about my life and opinion ... people who mostly do not ask questions or have never been confronted with a very difficult life .... Yet deep down I hope you will help me move forward in my personal journey ... Should I continue to play and dream and fight for my vision of gaming? Or should I abandon this media and trying to live something else ...? Thank you for your future answer...

Friendly.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
So the leaker posted a pretty nice wall of text in response to this thread. Tells us his life story and other things, and actually has applied to gaf and would like to answer questions about the game so he's asked us to ask questions that he might respond to on his forum.

EDIT:Seems we're even now woen. ._.

For comparison to new screenshots and people screaming "extreme downgrade!!1!"

Oh, now this is ironic because I remember you, OP, before the launch of Infamous:SS...you constantly berated the game and claimed it was downgraded in what seemed like most Infamous:SS articles over at N4G. You even cherry-picked off-screen, heavily compressed, shrunk down shots to try and prove that the downgrade had occurred.

http://n4g.com/news/1461484/troy-baker-infamous-second-son-looks-amazing-gives-details-on-delsins-good-and-evil-paths#c-8920058

So I'm wondering why you're so hell-bent on this defending this game against claims of it being downgraded, when it clearly has been, when you were more than happy to bash Infamous every chance you got?

Trust me the irony is not lost on me and I actually regret saying those things about Infamous because the visuals were the least of it's problems, and it was later proven that the graphics were not downgraded, which I actually said to one of the devs on twitter.

What's up with the life story? How is that relevant?

Game looks like ass, stop excusing for Ubisoft, they deserve all the backlash they got/get/will get for the bullshit they have continually been spewing, sadly the game won't bomb though.

...wait, what
It's a translation from a french forum. Not super surprising that a French person would be hyped about an AC game in France.

People get that Crossing Eden's tag is a joke right? Like no one seriously thinks a Ubisoft insider (with little inside information ever) would be this heavily associated with gathering coverage from forums in disguise?
