To NeoGAF, an answer straight from the heart of a gamer ...
Hello guys, finally here is rather "good evening",
Well I bother to answer me even if it was recommended. I'll try to give you some explanations and I sincerely hope that deep inside you there is still a little more gamer inspired by the fun and adventure by the number of pixels on a screen. Before going further in reading my post, I ask you to take a human posture because it is a part of my life that I give you ...
As I said earlier - and I thank Woen and Crossing Eden for relaying my messages (my Neogaf account is not activated yet) - I find the game really nice AC Unity on several points. No I am not a developer at Ubisoft or member of the press. I am a civil servant who likes to play on his free time.
Before I give you details about the game I'll allow me a small digression to tell you my story. Indeed, to evaluate a context you must have all the informations in the hands, right?
Well I am 28 and I play for as long as I can remember. I do not come from a rich family but my parents have always made an effort to give their children every generation consoles and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I was able to play almost every console since I was born and especially since I am able to handle a pad;-). And I must admit that I'm pretty good;-) (joke actually I do not know).
Brief... I continue my story : I spent so many hours playing that I probably missed a good time with people. But hey (!) it does not prevent me to have a great social life up there either because I like to meet people and discuss a lot of topics.
I am often asked why I am so attracted to video games? Do you ever asked yourself this question? For me it is because I need to dream in life, I need to live epic adventures... more intense than in books and movies. Yes a book tells us a story, a film shows us a story but video game allows these two things while allowing us to interact - and this is just beautiful! Many people of the "older generation" do not understand this but - video games are an open door to the imagination of a developer / writer / studio and that's incredible. Interact in a work outcome of someone's mind, it fascinates me! I believe that creativity and imagination of a person is one of the most important things in an individual. Einstein said that "imagination is more important than knowledge" ... I agree with the old man with a mustache;-). And you, what do you think?
Well I continue my story... In life I struggle a lot... I fought to succeed and I have overcome insecurity, hunger, cold, indifferent, disease and being very creative in a world where people are quite closed is difficult (status and qualifications above all), I am struggling to locate sometimes. Fortunately the video game allowed me to dream, to have fun when the pressure was too much and I managed in part thanks to it.
I have done many jobs: working in a dump, warehouse, employee at McDonalds where I clean the toilet ..., humanitarian (in Africa where I've seen people tear, be jailed and died for reasons that go beyond the "problem" of the resolution in a video game ...) and I ended up getting a stable job with long studies - paid out of my pocket - a job that still allows me to work for the good for the largest number.
Unfortunately my social ascent was abruptly stopped there a few months. I worked 14 hours a day, no holidays, no recognition or support and my body finally let me go. I had a stroke the 21 March 2014 at the age of 28 ... and I've only experienced months of hell ... Lying on a bed six months I was able to keep morale through video games. Yes it's the only thing I could do and it really made me mad though. Well it was not always rosy for some days I had a true allergy of screens. Yes it's really weird and it's one of the worst things that can happen to a gamer ... As I almost died I told myself "you should have fun dude!" and I invested in gear to deliver me to my passion : PC gamer, 4K TV, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U ... short enough to give a gamer a great time, all adding to other consoles like the SNES or Dreamcast.
As you can see, the video game is very important to me. As I want to integrate the environment I even created a small website but hey my fragile health prevents me to feed myself and the website is almost down now. Nobody knew it... It's a shame because I would really offer an alternative to existing web sites ... In fact, as I am an avid video game player, I have a little trouble with all your reactions even if the plurality of opinions is a wealth. When I see the evolution of our favorite media I'm sad. It became a hard-core business and passion gradually disappears. The media sector are too complacent and do not do their job of "watchdog" ;-) (they condone games kit, war pixels, etc). And what saddens me greatly is that the video game industry has become a real cleavage and trollage sector. It's war between console gamers and PC users and between consoles players themselves. I'm an adult and I have to stop being naive ... but I can not stand it. Where is the dreamer and fun side of the early days? Why is it that the media - which is supposed to take us and make us dream - to become like the rest of society: a world of hatred and communities? Otherwise I am also writing a book about video games ... I hope one day to finish it;-).
I resume the thread of my story: the Assassin's Creed series is a series that interests me since those early days. I like the basic idea is rather ingenious relive the life of an ancestor through our DNA. Well after so many episodes, the story is so diluted that it becomes damage. But hey, I like to go after a story ...
Being French, born in Paris, I have long dreamed of playing an assassin in the most beautiful city in the world. Ubisoft permits it, and during the famous French Revolution! The gamer in me is intrigued. So I could get my hands on a copy of the game, finding it on a website that offers good deals, hand in hand. I did 1h30 journey to get him and 1:30 to return. In my medical condition is a feat because I had not set foot outside for 6 months. But hey if you are a hard gamer, you can understand the need to get your hands on a game that makes us want! When I got home I threw myself feverishly on my console, "nothing else mattered". The game first! Once the game is installed I took my controller with a heavy heart, put on my helmet and it was gone. From the first moment I was captivated by the story and for me it is the most important point in a game. The gameplay is also successful I could go deeper in the game. Once in the streets of Paris I saw that it was not the level of official screenshots ... but hey guys ... should'nt you not be aware of? We always embellishes what is to selli. Do not be naive. Every day you buy products that do not necessarily resemble the finished product ... Everything around us is false. You sell yourself probably more beautiful than you are ... ;-)
Please note that the game is beautiful in its own way because more than 4K, 1080p or TXAA or something else - it offers us more : life, density and a huge Paris. As such you should know that differs from the usual open worlds. Everything is condensed because it is a city that offers us. Narrow streets, quaint interior is all there for you to transcribe the Paris of the Revolution. And that's a success. Personally I enjoy wandering around, listen to the conversations. I don't stop myself against a wall to count pixels. It would be a shame to do that ... but hey everyone its way to consume a game..., right? I do not know if the game will receive a patch or another but if it look the same the 13th november, I don't care. The key for me is to have fun! Ask yourself this question ladies and gentlemen : do you enjoy playing when you spend your time counting the pixels on your screen? Do you think this is the purpose of a video game? If these are the graphics you want, maybe it reflects that there is a part in your personality which prefer the appearance before the being ...? I do not know, I let you do some soul searching.
Yes the game is not perfect ... but what game is? Give me a list so I can see if I agree with you and confront our views (NeoGAF active my account !!!) But I am convinced that the vast majority of you will enjoy playing the game...
GAFeurs and friends, we come to the confrontation of two perspectives: for me it is the story before everything else, for you it is the look ... Who is right? I do not know ...
I thank in advance those who will bother to post my answer. I look forward to reading your answers. Please be courteous, present arguments. Show that video game players are anything but trolls ....
Be aware that this "little adventure" raises a lot of questions in my heart ... The main issues - one that haunts me since my stroke - is what is the meaning of life? Should I do not waste my time playing video games and discuss it? Are there not more important things to do in life? Tonight I should have doing - or I could have doing - other thing than answer to people who will laugh about my life and opinion ... people who mostly do not ask questions or have never been confronted with a very difficult life .... Yet deep down I hope you will help me move forward in my personal journey ... Should I continue to play and dream and fight for my vision of gaming? Or should I abandon this media and trying to live something else ...? Thank you for your future answer...
Friendly.
