343: Halo 5 beta runs at 720p/60FPS, focused on gameplay, not final resolution

With some of the posts in here, seems there's some seriously selective reading happening.

Halo 5 runs at 720p is what I assume some people are seeing and are then rushing to post based on what they think they just read.

Only explanation...

Yup 720p in a sentence and people lose their minds.

So the beta currently looks no different to Halo 4 and the only difference is it runs at twice the frame rate.

I simply refuse to believe that the final game will be like that.

I don´t care as long as it´s eventually somewhere close to 900P or dynamic in the final release. 60 FPS is way more important to me than resolution. What however is very important is that the game is stable at 60 FPS - I don´t really consider BF4 or Titanfall (not sure if patches changed things, but at launch at least) a 60 FPS game.

Given that they've not once uttered 1080p in regard to this game I'd say it's probably not something they're targeting.

Prove me wrong folks, prove me wrong.

It's very possible that's the case -- I even said in one of my previous posts that I could see it being 900p. All I'm saying is that there's still a long time before the game is released. Their focus right now (gameplay/gameplay feedback) is in the right spot after Halo 4's mixed reactions.

People are acting as if this confirms the final game (releasing around this time NEXT YEAR) will be 720p.

I don't mind 900p. But they had better get Rock solid 60FPS, and I'm talking FRAMETIME PERFECT 60. (like how Bungie got Frametime-perfect 30FPS with optimizations)

So long as it's actually locked 60fps heavy compromises are probably understandable... though if it was actually locked 60fps it'd be a first for a console first person shooter, so I doubt it will be.

Good thing they are releasing all these 1080p super sampled screenshots.

Yeah, just what I was thinking :/

Honestly pretty disappointed.

The graphics to me look like Halo 4 running in HD, really.

In fact if you told me the footage of the beta was new maps and armor for the MCC version of Halo 4, I would probably believe you.

Here is to hoping the SP is leaps and bounds more gorgeous... But I am tempering my expectations.

Well 720p is limit in 2015 but who care honestly if the final result is good...I think I prefer to have better graphics overall and 720p 60 fps (900p is the perfect compromise for this gen) than 1080p 30 fps with low details and yet it's still the beta for now.

I just hope they have a real 60fps,,, Halo needed that and not something like Titanfall 60fps.

It was expected that they won't reach 1080p.

I'm fine if they can get it down to 900p/60fps. Locked 60fps would be ideal.
I imagine if 900p/60fps was that easy for the xbone it would already be at it, regardless of it being a beta or not. Don't be fooled by the game being a year away, the hardware won't change in that year and optimization alone isn't good enough to heighten the resolution that much, unless of course some things are dialed back.

So you come in here to comment knowing full well the BETA will be 720p, while the full game is still a year away.

Half of the comments for H5 are hard to believe that they are real and genuine. Just seems people were waiting to pounce and troll on the subject but I guess that's how the internet works.

Excellent. Hitting 60fps is far more important for Halo than the resolution, and it sounds like 343 have got their priorities right so that's all I need to hear.

Lol calm down there bud.

I have a shelf in my entertainment center devoted to Halo, I have every CE/LE, I read he books, watch the shows, watch trailers on repeat, and even made my own little shorts using theater mode. Halo is the reason I have an Xbox One.

That said, I think the games graphical fidelity is disappointing. I wasn't commenting on the Beta resolution. (H4 is running at 1080p now and I fully expect Halo 5 to run between 900p and 1080p) I was commenting on the actual engine. It doesn't look like a huge leap in Halo fidelity like I was hoping for. If I remember correctly DF said the Halo 2 anniversary maps are using a modified Halo 4 engine on XBO. And to me, H5 looks much like that.

Anyway, holding out hope for the SP to either have absolutely massive scale, or a large increase in graphical fidelity from multiplayer. (Would be fine with me if they went 30fps for SP, and 60fps for multi).

But you go ahead and keep jumping to conclusions and calling people trolls. Guess that's how the Internet works.

I'm 100% fine with this. A beta is not even remotely about visuals, and even what I'm seeing looks great. The game is a year away. They've made some pretty big changes to the Halo sandbox, and I'm glad taking player feedback is the priority.

That said, I do hope they bring it up to 900p or whatever Halo 2 anniversary campaign has by launch, I don't care much about resolution, but 720p for easily the biggest game Xbox will have for the next couple years, seems disappointing.

Since when? Halo has never been 60fps, ( until literally today)

60 FPS is better all around. So I'm glad 343i has there priorities straight unlike Bungie. Why is Destiny 30 FPS? I don't know.

Give me 60 FPS in multiplayer over 30 and 1080p any day.

As for people saying it looks like Halo 4, the AA, lighting, particle effects, etc. all look improved. I get it, this game doesn't look like Killzone. But it still looks great... or maybe I just need my eyes checked.

Even the title says: "not final resolution", yet people complain about how 720p is "unacceptable". It's only a BETA and not final resolution.

Also, this. Especially when it's a FPS.

Lol. Why the need to throw Bungie under the bus? Plenty of developers are going with 30fps.

I love 60fps as much as the next guy, but this is a bit ridiculous.

1080p and 60fps are bother impritant, to varying degrees depending on be game.

Ideally Halo SP should be 1080p 30fps on XBO, with multi being 60fps. IMO. In another world where the XBO was more powerful, then sure, go for 60/1080, but since it isn't, I worry that H5 fidelity will underwhelm at 1080p/60.

Really hope I am pleasantly surprised. We are a year out after all.

I expect more to be honest from 343i. 3 years into this (by release), 300+ manpower, all the resources, all the knowledge to tap and optimize for the Xbox One....

1080p, 60fps should be the final product. I am sure there are going to be a couple compromises in some areas graphics wise but it should be achievable. Nothing like a clean, non-upscaled IQ.

The MP arenas should not be anywhere as demanding as the BF's maps of this world with 64 players in map and the SP is usually constrained by the story (linear), unless they go open-world and there is absolutely no chance of that.

We shall see but I am not ready to cut them slack....yet.
