Bayonetta: Special Edition |OT| Fly Me To Wii U

Use the electric Durga explosions on your hands or pkp with Shuraba, both are the fastest ways of killing enemies with a single/repeating move (kilgore glitch aside), look them up on youtube if you still have trouble completing them.
Durga's fire bombs are the most powerful individual attacks, I think, apart from fully charged Pillow Talk slashes. Equip Durga on your feet for best results. PPPKKK (if you hold K for each kick to drop bombs) destroys everything except bosses in a matter of seconds.

So I finished this game some days ago. What to say? The combat took some time (much more than in W101) but clicked with me, the Bat within is probably the best item in Bayo and the one that suddendly made my score jump near gold/platinum. Many cheap deaths, some unpolished parts but so many ideas and surprises! Route 666 wasn't bad at all and the sea boss became one of my favourite encounter in a game ever!
On a side note, I can't understand why people had hard times getting into W101 but loved Bayo, wich is far more obscure in its mechanics (and harder to master in general).

Anyway I'm playing Bayo 2 right now and I have to say that the exploration, in both games, breaks the action too much. And fuck, my favorite combo is gone.

Finished!

I got bronze overall, which surprised me because 80% of chapters are stone heh

Now I don't know if I should jump to Bayonetta 2 or try this one again on hard.
If you have any passing interest in playing on Hard difficulty, I'd suggest wrapping that up first before committing to Bayonetta 2. If you're anything like me, you're going to have a tough time going back to the original game with all the advances 2 made.

Fair warning though, Hard difficulty puts up quite the fight.

Playing through this again and I just had to laugh at the QTEs so far. The one at the end of chapter II (?) where you're in the chapel is just hilarious - instant death if you miss time it and it happens right at the end of the fucking level. What was the purpose of this?! I'm so glad they came to their senses in the second game.

That fucked me up on my second play through more than it did on my first play through. Trying to do a Gold/Platinum run and I lost 5 fucking continues on that section completely fucking up my run. So Stupid.

I kind of feel the same. It should have some exploration, but constant backtrack to check if there is a new verse somewhere can get annoying sometimes.

Probably because Bayonetta is built on the same template of DMC, so if you were already familiar with those games, you'll have no problems playing Bayonetta. They even share some moves!

Yeah I think I'll jump right to the sequel. I sadly don't have the time to sink into the first game to master it as much as I want to, and you can tell it needs it.

was talking with friends, and holy shit, had no clue i had a freaking sword. Don't recall the game ever explaining about that stuff. I knew I got a sword, but I thought i had to buy it or something.

He also told me to use Link outfit because it has that parry move for free.

Seems pretty neat. Is there any reason to use dodge instead of parry? seems like you can parry most things, but the timing to get the counter attack is pretty strict.

Am I missing something or you can't really dodge offset with the sword or am I not doing it right?

Dodging let's yoiu dodge offset which is crucial on the higher difficulties.

You can dodge offset with any weapon.

Don't dodge during the shooting segment if you can't handly the screen spinning. Everything is able to be avoided wihtout dodging.

Doesn't the game quicksave after the shooter section? You should come back to your fight with Jeanne.

I don't think I got Durga until after that battle.

I ended up using my sword, dodging into witch time and doing charged sword attacks.

Beat both baddies without a kick.

Everyone should try Non-Stop Infinite Climax mode at least once.

Going back to it in the Wii-u felt shorter than I remember.

Dont dodge unless you have to. I made it to the end of the stage by simply moving around the screen instead of dodging. Also I found pressing the shoot button was quicker than holding it down. And don't forget your missiles.

Apologies if this was covered elsewhere, was there any explanation ever given for the muted colors in the Wii U port? Is it an 'RGB Limited/Full' thing or intrinsic to the port?

I don't know, but I think it's just the intended style and isn't really more colorful on 360? If you watch the upper half of the screen you notice there is a bright gradient always present. That's not a bug but on purpose. At least on the WiiU you don't have the the skewed 360 gamma curve added to the overall look of the game.

I hate that gradient with a vengeance. Completely unnecessary and can't be turned off. :(

Any tips on moon of mahaa?

Like i'm confused which direction for some boss fights where they attack from above or from both sides at the same time.

side note: didn't think much of peach outfit until actually started using it... god damn. nintendo approved this skirt length?

jesus: the end of ch12 was fucking awful. crazy effects and underwater with low framerate while having to protect the girl.

fuck.

I'm in the Anheim or whatever in one of the later chapters where you have to defeat enemies using only weaves and I have no idea what I'm doing. All of my short combos that normally end in a weave don't do shit, so I'm just flailing randomly and trying to hope I pull one off

EDIT: Wait if the animation on a combo that ends in a weave connects before the weave procs I get knocked back anyway? What bullshit! This arena is tiny and Bayonetta hops forward like three feet with every attack, there's no way to get down the combo chain without moving up close to an enemy and getting knocked out

EDIT: BACK THE FUCK OFF. THE ENEMIES KEEP COMING IN CLOSE BECAUSE THEY KNOW I CAN'T TOUCH THEM

The only combo I can use here is PKP. Anything else, anything at all, and by the time it finishes some stupid enemy is in close to break me out of it

This missile level is annoying the fuck out of me. You can't even see what's coming in front of you. Please focus on what you're good at, Platinum, because this ain't it.

Gotta use dodge offset. That way it doesn't matter how close you are, you can just dodge out of it and continue toward your weave. You can also dodge immediately after a wicked weave comes out rather than hoping it hits the enemy before they hit you.

I'm trying to dodge offset. Does it not work if I hop backwards? If I hop sideways its just going to land the attack on the enemy and break me out again

EDIT: managed to cheese it with the samurai sword

Yeah you can hop backwards. You don't even need to wait for the hit to land. You can immediately cancel with a dodge and only let the wicked weaves hit. If you're really stuck just use PKP with shuraba.
Oh, and if you've bought heel stomp or tetsuzanko, using those with 3 or more magic orbs turns them into wicked weaves.

Every fucking level I'm going along fine, feeling like I'm getting the hang of this game, beating up enemies that gave me trouble before, thinking that maybe this time I won't need five continues to make it through and then I hit some bullshit that just kills me repeatedly

This time its those three stupid missile firing sky boats that I can't kill because there's nowhere to dodge all of the missiles while you're on top of one beating the shit out of it. So either I don't dodge and take a shit-tone of damage or do dodge and fly off the edge of the boat and fall into the void

Abuse the umbran portal kick. You're invincible during it so start it just before the missiles hit you and then dodge cancel out of it.

Just tap dodge when missiles come to witch time. Shoot the missiles. Keep attacking. Repeat.

I keep dodging off the side of the boat because there's nowhere to go\

Just don't think about it and enjoy dying.

#stone4life

I mean I know I can go back and get a better grade later but I'm sick of every single level having one massive difficulty spike that its basically impossible to get through the first time without multiple deaths

Meh, I'll probably appreciate it more when I replay

The only non-stone trophies I got in my first playthrough were a couple of bosses and the very first chapters, and I only got bronze and one silver. When I replayed Vestibule after beating the game I got gold.

The game will make you improve.

Yeah I think they figured it out better in more recent platinum games.

I just wish it wasn't so easy to die, or give me more hp drop from mobs, or give a fix hp refill after an encounter.

turn that stuff off on harder difficulties.

You just feel like shit after finishing a hard fight knowing that the next encounter something will probably kill you because you have no health.

probably why I can't marathon this game. I kinda have to be in a certain mind set, or I'd go insane.

Star of Dinèta, taunt the hell out of some smaller enemies if you're low on health. You can use it to practise dodging while doing so because you will get attacked waiting for the taunt to finish.

Finished the game, finally. What a ride, definitely the best action game I've ever played. Now to decide if I'll play Bayo 2 now or play it again on hard.

Oh, I guess I assumed Durga was available by that time. Shuraba works great for that type of challenge, now that you mention it.

hmmmm how do you dodge offset combos with pauses?
Any time there's a pause, you have to dodge offset the attack before it, release the button as Bayonetta completes her dodge animation, then hit the next input after a short delay. It's kind of weird. Try Kilgore's PP-P or KK-K to get a feel for the timing.

It's hard to parry any attack that comes from multiple directions or strikes vertically. You can try to tap toward the enemy itself. This works sometimes, but from what I've seen it's not nearly consistent enough to rely on. Best to dodge the tricky attacks.

A tip for the end of Chapter 12: lighting Durga on your feet makes you immune to the electrified water.

This missile level is annoying the fuck out of me. You can't even see what's coming in front of you. Please focus on what you're good at, Platinum, because this ain't it.
Pretty much this. It's awful that one of the best boss fights in the game is locked behind that tedious missile sequence.

Are the sword holograms considered weaves? The ones that appear at the end of combos.
Yes. Spamming PKP with the sword is actually one of the most effective cheese tactics in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason PKP was nerfed in Bayonetta 2 is because Platinum saw how quickly players could tear things up by repeatedly panther offsetting into PKP's finisher.

When you're on a Kinship you can usually dodge along the length of the boat without falling off. I like to deal with the barrage by chaining multiple Umbran Portal Kicks.

The beginning of the move, where Bayonetta spins her leg around to open a portal, makes you completely invincible. You can cancel the kick with a dodge before she enters the portal and go right into another portal kick. This can be repeated up to four times with Bayonetta (because you're forced to stop by the high flip she does after four evades), or unlimited times with (UNLOCKABLE SPOILERS)
Jeanne (because she doesn't have the flip penalty).
Basically you create a massive window of invincibility to avoid all of the missiles.

I don't think they changed the sword's PKP too much going into Bayonetta 2, but generally speaking some enemy types have a tendency to dodge / parry more than in 1 on higher difficulties, if not outright being unphased by it under certain conditions. Cheesing through Wicked Weaves alone isn't that (relatively) effortless anymore, but there's other tricks once you unlock stuff. The Wicked Weave from ← → P is now a vertical slash instead of a horizontal one, however.

only 1 death though, used lolipops after death because it went on too long.

Beaten! Final boss(s) were surprisingly easy. no deaths. Don't actually think most of the boss fights are hard. most of my deaths were just the normal levels.

Don't. You'll improve.

Modern games have made people forget it's ok to die. I died a lot. The game demands you more than just button smashing. You'll get there. Use dodge more, analyse the enemies, everything is very doable on normal.

I've been enjoying my first Bayonetta 1 playthrough and am looking forward to starting 2 after I beat the first game.

I'm stuck on the challenge portal where you have a limited number of kicks and punches to defeat the enemies. I've been trying to beat all these challenges as I go, but this one seems especially hopeless.

Any tips for beating it? Or would I miss much just to skip it? I assume it unlocks the last piece of a golden record I need for a new weapon.

Just finished marathoning the whole game last night. What I did was use the Shuraba's fully charged slash a few times and it made quick work of them. Go in, and dodge first to trigger witch time, then start building charge. When witch time ends you can dodge and still keep the charge in order to build it to full. Rinse repeat. EDIT: whoops you already did it

Anyway, like i said I basically marathoned the whole game last night, took me like 10 hours from where I had left off in Chapter 3(?) finished at 5 am. Love the game, started to get super into it toward the end. I'm not great yet, so I was still dying everywhere but when I did pull stuff off it felt awesome. I gotta say though I really enjoyed the Rival battles way more than the last few Boss fights, hype levels were at max. But even then, the set pieces were INSANE. 10/10 might play again before I get Bayo 2. Need to get gud
