Listen pal, I'll have you know that the kangaroo and dinosaur are genetically engineered to be fighters.

Ahem,

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Tekken culture (I'm an expert), but fighter viability is a huge part of it. It's not like it is in Dead or Alive where you can become a character by being cute. If you add a character who is cute and nothing else in Tekken, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is to take her out of the US version.

What this means is the Westerner public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Tekken for any system, nor will they purchase any of Harada's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Harada has alienated an entire market with this move.

Harada, publicly apologize and cancel Chloe for the US version of Tekken 7 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Please understand.

He should turn every other character into a cat girl for the US release.

Why was GAF called out in that article? I think the Shoryuken forums would have more influence than any of us here.
The reveal thread was tweeted to the dude.

I thought we learned to stop going to polygon for anything thats not a review?

Now NeoGAF is gonna get shit on even more if Harada pulls off a troll move lol.

I've seen MRA crazies on other forums foam at the mouth that "NeoGAF censored the game".

I am not sure if I am more surprised that Polygon fell for this or that GAFers are falling for it.

I mean, at least Polygon might be doing it purposely to just have a story to put up and then claim ignorance later. You other guys...

I have an extremely exciting financial opportunity in bridges you might be interested in.

Really hope it's true. The character is fine for just about any other game coming out of japan, but she has no place in Tekken and it's just silly. Stick her in Summer Lesson if you need to.
She's "out of place" and "silly" in a game with Fighting Kangaroos, dinosaurs, dragons, sentient wooded dummies, fighting pandas/grizzly bears, angels devils, robots and a narcoleptic vampire?

Eh I just don't see the need to make a big stink about one character, even if she isnt asthetically pleasing. All I see is one more character in tekken which has always been sort of wacky with is animal and robotic characters.

And screw all you people who don't think people have a right to complain about stupid shit in their games. Very few, if any, of us actually asked for her to be removed, but we sure as hell gave our opinions.

Don't get your panties in a wad, she'll be there when the game releases.

No doubt. It's hilarious people are trying to toss the dudebro insult at those of us who hate this character, like a fucking cat girl is so original and unique. It's as cliched, lame, and downright lazy as any shave-headed, muscle-bound dude could ever be. Nothing about this character was unique or interesting, from the stupid cat ears and mitts to the headphones, to the stockings with knee-pads and boots, to to ear grating high pitched "I'm a 5 year old with 21 year old body" voice it's the same shit Japan has been regurgitating for years. She's virtually the Japanese equivalent of dudebro.

It's fine not to like a thing (who honestly likes every character in the roster of any/most fighting games?) but the words people were actually using to express themselves were/are legit embarrassing. "Ruins Tekken"; "Completely out of line with anything the series has ever done"; "I can't buy the game now"; "Random exclamations to assert their masculinity", etc. Some people were legit calling for removal or believed Harada was actually serious here and were content at her cut from the American version. Obviously people care about different things to different degrees but the rage expressed was NOT proportional to the crime committed (addition of a wacky/derpy fighting game character). People are responding with the dudebro analogy and rebuttal because the reaction to this characters was so silly and stupid that it deserves a rebuttal of that caliber.

Chole is so dumb, she is simply ridicilous, does not fit into the Roster and-

alisa_2___tekken_bv_by_agentjkazama-d5gku43.jpg

Nevermind.

To be fair, there was a lot of anger at Alisa too back in 2008. The people who don't like Chloe likely didn't like Alisa at the time of her reveal, and look upon her place in the cast begrudgingly. I know that I didn't like Lars or Alisa at the time when they were revealed, and I still don't really care for either character, just as I don't like Chloe.

I like how Europe doesn't give a shit.

We're a second Japan, u guis.

It's more that everyone is assuming that the only people complaining are American. Which is ridiculous. I bet you could find members of the Japanese fanbase who don't like the character either.

What an awful post.

Why would you go there for a review? ;)

I dont even like Polygon in general :p. But apperantly theres a crowd that likes them enough to give them a glance every now and then.

Still yet to see anything good from them imo.

Hm, okay, thats fair.
I still love to fight as Alisa, just because her ridicilous and over-the-top Fighting-Style is just how i like it. Thats why i already like Chloe.
But i can see, why there is a Wave of dislike towards her. I don't agree, but i understand.

Wait, wait, wait, lemme get this straight

  1. Some folks complain about this ridiculous character being in Tekken
  2. Harada makes an obvious joke basically calling anyone complaining a dudebro Westerner meathead
  3. Joke sails over the heads of many, who then not only take him seriously, but rather than realize he's insulted them, blame SJWs for it
Is that what I'm reading?

If you really want to piss Harada off, do it properly.

I do give Alisa some points for the fighting style, which is another reason I'm more bothered by Chloe. She doesn't seem to add anything that's new or unique. Her fighting style looks like an amalgam of previous styles, some already in the game. Her design looks like an amalgam of anime tropes, some already in the game. Her personality seems to be generic cuteness, which is definitely already in the game.

It just seems like a worthless addition to me.

She is quite useless indeed. But you can bet your ass that the people harassing Harada on twitter weren't using your same exact words...

Sometimes I think these social networks have been harmful for game devs. Too many people are way too vocal about ridiculous things like this. If you don't like L.Chloe, don't buy or don't use her.

Woah, never thought about it this way. Kind of a Bummer right now. Well, i still like her Design though, even if's just Anime 101

Lol polygon...

I don't like the design but if anything she's more on the normal side as far as Tekken characters go.

It's a bigger bummer because Harada has said that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had too many characters, and that even Tekken 6 may have had too many characters. He said that he thinks a good number would be 36-38.

Tekken 6 had 40 (not including Panda)

Cut down 2 right off the bat to get it to 38. Plus 3 new characters. That's 3 more old characters gone. So 5 characters from 6, out. Maybe 7, if Arabian guy and Kazumi make it in.

And that's just Tekken 6. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had 59 playable characters (most of them gag characters that were 5-6 moves away from being straight palette swaps, but then there were fleshed out and fairly unique ones like Kunimitsu, Jinpachi, etc.) So that's 21 characters gone.

I'm not saying that the roster will only have 38 characters, but there's little doubt in my mind that it will be reduced for the first time in 4.5 games. Right now, the only characters that I play that are confirmed for the game are Hwoarang, Leo, and Feng Wei, all of which I only dabble in. None of my favorite or main characters are in the game right now, and the only one that I'm sure will get a spot is Yoshimitsu.

So yeah, that's why, in a game that is already confirmed to have Xiaoyu, Alisa, Lili, and Asuka in it, I don't think Chloe is a good addition.

I'm a huge Tekken fan and have been since the first game came out on the PSOne in 1995. I have Jin's tattoo on my left arm. I'm balls deep in this Tekken shit.

That said, I don't like the character's design, but I respect Harada's right to put whoever he wants in there. Harada is smart and has been helping make Tekken great for years. I don't have to love every character in order to still love Tekken.

People can gripe about the design all they want, but nobody should be calling for the character to be removed. That's just stupid. Nobody removed Tingle from Zelda despite my numerous emails, letters, and staged protests (kidding). Let's all just accept that there's a lame clone of Marie Rose in Tekken now and move on. Maybe we'll grow to appreciate her one day (sorta doubt it but who knows)

Ah, the "slots" argument. Even if Chloe was purged from existence there no guarantee your favorite character(s) would get in. Dislike her because you don't like her design, fighting style, etc. Hating on her because "she took a slot" is a waste of your time and energy.

Don't start arguing "slots" in fighting games. These conversations never go well.
