What the fuck is up with the input lag in Grand Theft Auto V on PS4??

Serious question: Are the people complaining about this have not played any of the GTAs since GTA:SA ?

Its obvious to me (and others), that the controls are exactly the same as they were in lastgen GTAV and GTAIV regardless of platform.

The input lag, dead zone or whatever you want to call it is definitely present, but its been present for a long time.

Finally! I thought I was the only one who felt the controls weren't as tight as they should be. Aiming and driving were the worst - everything felt unresponsive. Definitely not my TV either as I haven't had any issues with other PS4 games.

I never played the PS3 version so I'm not sure how it felt there or if the controls were this way on purpose but it definitely felt unresponsive after playing Destiny and Watch Dogs.

The deadzone is definitely there , but it was there on the 360 version I played last year as well.

You get used to it ( and compensate I guess) but it always feels more apparent when I have been playing other games and then go to GTa than when I've only played GTA for a few days.

At this point there is no chance that R* will change it.

Rockstar seems to think Grand Theft Auto games should have shit controls. If they don't get their shit together with GTA 6 I'm probably done with them forever. That said, I'll probably finish my GTA 5 playthrough, flawed controls or not.

Aiming controls are bad. The deadzone, reticle acceleration, 'stickiness' and whatever else you're supposed to do to make a shooter feel good have been done poorly in this game. Shooting dudes feels like shit; hell, even shooting targets at the shooting range is awful. Some challenges have you fire at a moving target, and trying to match your reticle's speed to the target's is almost impossible.

You just have to use the lock-on controls, unfortunately. Shit's bad, but at least the lock-on aiming makes shooting dudes a trifle.

Holy crap, I didn't know this was such a problem with the console versions. Hopefully the PC one will be fine but I am worried.

Just tested it. There is no perceptible delay between me pressing the stick and the camera moving, and my tiniest possible movements move the aim even in first-person, unlike either of the videos posted ITT.

Would you kindly upload a clip? I find this hard to believe.

Gonna chime in and say turn up camera sensitivity if your referencing to camera movements.Otherwise show vid pressing action buttons and actions occurring ingame to show input lag.Otherwise gonna say especially with first person issues guess it comes down to base game being developed as a third person game.

I have all sensitivity settings on maximum in the video I posted. Here it is again:

Sensitivity is nothing to do with this problem. Increasing Sensitivity will simply increase the rate of turn in relation to the analogue stick reading - ie less analogue motion is needed to turn at speed X.

What you're seeing in the videos is the camera moving after the analogue has been flicked. Delay. Latency.

At people still denying it. Oh god why. Upload a video of this magical build you have, doing exactly what the 2-3 videos have done in this thread, or hush please :)

If the above person has really done this test to no dead zone / lag issue, we await your video.

Have you played GTA before? It's definately there and always has been. Why are we talking about this now?

Because, for me at least, first-person mode makes it much more noticeable and makes it harder to aim. And I think the DS4 sticks having more resistance than the DS3 sticks accentuates it even further.

Why not talk about it now? If Rockstar were to take notice and fix it, then that would be great for everyone who notices it and/or is bothered by it.

Here's another vid on youtube that probably explains and shows it a bit more clearly. The deadzone coupled with the acceleration curve is the real problem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQFXJdPxFOY

If people are having no problems then they should make the video above showing they get inputs when the right analog stick is moved 1mm-3mm from origin.

Rockstar needs to see these videos. The deadzone is a real problem. I think the title of this thread should reflect that.

Hurr durr.

No, by fixing the dead-zone, input delay and movement acceleration.

That's not the problem and it's pretty clear in the videos floating around this topic.

Deadzone could use a tweak (or maybe even a slider in the options to tweak if you experience drift) but it would solve absolutley nothing about input lag. It's their engine, it's 30 frame. It's like that for gta4 and rdr too.

1. Have you experienced extreme input lag on PS4 or Xbox One? (Y/N) Yes, PS4
2. What version of the game did you play? (Disc/Digital) Disc
3. If applicable, have you experienced extreme input lag on PS3 or Xbox 360 (Y/N) Xbox 360, No
4. If applicable, what version of the game did you play? (Disc/Digital) Disc

I didn't notice the lag until I tried first person mode and then flipped back. That's when it became obvious. I think it's always been there.

It's definitely not the TV or the PS4. Easy way to test this is to just quickly flick one of the analogue sticks ingame. You'll notice it takes around 300ms for the input to execute ingame.

However, this effect does not occur in the GTA V menus when flicking between menu options, or in other games, or in the PS4 home screen itself, clearly suggesting this is a GTA V issue.

Then it would be their engine, not the 30fps specifically, that's the cause. Far Cry 4 is 30fps on PS4 and is much more responsive.

Man...I really hope it's not due to their engine, that would mean we have no hope of this being fixed.

In the first video you can see a good amount of input lag as well when he's using the movement stick. That could of course just be his TV though, but otherwise the problem is both input lag and screwed up dead zone for aiming.

Well.. The only rockstar game that has less input lag is max payne. But it's not in first person and you still see the delay.

I didn't play fc4 on ps4 so i don't reall know :/

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was switching between GTA V and FC4 on a regular basis, and it was so obvious the moment I switched that the GTA V controls were less responsive. I actually temporarily stopped playing GTA V until I finished FC4 and traded it in because it was too much contrasted against FC4.

I have not played it a lot, but so far it's the same as it was on PS3 control-wise. Which is to say, that it plays fine for me.

Then why is the camera still moving after the controls have been released?

Can everyone please stop saying there is no latency. If you're that convinced it's not there, post a video. We've asked repeatedly.

This. You can clearly see in my video that the camera is still moving after the stick has returned to its original position. This is what causes me to over-aim and get my ass killed when playing MP missions. Lol.

Yep. Makes first person aiming worthless, and as for shooting while in a vehicle - it's torrid. There's so much amazing stuff in this game, such a shame the controls detract so much.

Ps4 user here and not experiencing what Op is. I could understand the frustration tho. I wonder if that's a Tv issue. Weird.

Is your controller charged?

Do you have any other WIFI devices that may be interefering with the reception?

I had to get rid of a wifi mouse once because it was cutting out on me alot. We had a wifi baby monitor on the same frequemcy and it messing me up big time during WoW raids.

I tried different channels, but didn't work. Both were 2.4ghz and apparenatly on the same wave or something.

I went back to a wired mouse and never had problems again.

I noticed it inmediately the first time I played (both on ps3 and ps4).

After a while playing I got used to it, but it´s really obvious.

Where did you acquire your copy of GTAV from mate?

Theres a video up in this page that shows it.

While moving your character you do not have any delay, only on the aiming, so its a Deadzone+Acceleration problem instead of a lag problem. And its much more noticeable in first person view than 3rd person.

Im still having fun in the game, but with assisted aim on "Partial".

This is the best proof anyone has given in this thread. The camera doesn't even start moving until the stick is in its original position, holy shit.

We need to send these to Rockstar, along with my video, and giffy's.

Edit: If you don't mind, can I use these GIF's in a thread on the GTA forums?

Go on man, shows us a clip. I must have bought the Input Lag version on accident.

I hope we are all tweeting Rockstar Support about this, or making a ticket on their site?

Hopefully it can be fixed with a patch.

Firing a gun is also tied to game mechanics/physics/animation system, it could be slow by design, so that's not a way to measure input lag.

You have Quake's shooting response times and you have other games, for example.

Problem with gta are huge deadzones and bad camera acceleration, combined with clunky animation system.

The game is still awesome...

I'll watch that thread with interest. It will either get ignored or filled with people saying it's your TV and / or their version doesn't do it and they're super sensitive to latency :)

Yup, I'm expecting 99% of comments to be like this.

Sigh.

Well, I also contacted Rockstar Support directly. So now we just wait see what they say in the reply, if I even get one...
