Fighting Games Weekly | Dec 8-14 | Sony pleads the FiF

No more online qualifiers so we can avoid hacks like TuTu.

No idea how good ChuChu really is, but it was his first time in a non-brazilian tournament, I presume? Should probably cut him some slack, nerves can get to anybody.

As for next year, yeah things gotta change a little. It shouldn't be so US biased and give online tournaments to Asia as well. That would mean that one of the big US Majors would have to lose a spot though. But that's the only way to make it fairer.

Agreed. Online tournaments throughout different countries is definitely desirable, for a more diverse lineup and giving people who're not able to travel a lot a chance to participate.

Other than that I'd like to see that the finals to be done like the dota's the international maybe. A multiple day round robin into a 3/5 double elimination. The biggest issue in that solution would be the availability of the players, though.

I'm being totally serious here

I think if Justin went on a diet/started working out, he would play a lot better.

Not that being overweight is a detriment to skill level. Its just an unhealthy way to live life, and it must affect him somewhat.

Well Daigo and the Madcatz peeps have been doing it. I think it's a net positive keeping in shape, especially as a sponsored player. Since they also have to represent their sponsors. Whether it helps with reactions and or not, is up to debate. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

Is street fighter 5 going to be released on the arcades??

It's unknown. This is the first time that somebody aka Sony kickstarted an SF game. But it's also not unheard of that games getting an arcade port post console release, i.e. DoA5.

I've said it in this thread and others and dahbomb has said it too.

It just comes down to great players like Justin and Diago picking alts to cover their bad MUs.

Doesn't matter what the reason is, stubbornness, pride, honor, ect. The competition is too fierce to get thru with a single character. They all have bad MUs. With 500k on the line the competition is only going to get more intense.

I doubt it's honor or pride. They probably feel dedicating time to their main and working to outplay bad MU is more efficient than playing alts. The biggest tournaments are typically won by character specialists.

If we going esports, then the players are "athletes" .......

Anyone who wants to take it seriously next year should be staying in shape physically, as much as they can. Not saying these dudes who are not in the best shape should go out and get six packs in a few months. It will affect all aspects of their lives in a positive manner, which will help their play, especially as they grow older and have to keep on the grind

That is true.

But Daigo for instance needs an answer to the Sim MU.

He probably knows he could improve in the matchup and figures that the likelyhood of playing Dhalsim in tournament is low enough to not be worth spending the time on an alt. For tournament prep you're always making decisions like that.

Yup. Also I laughed at the notion of them getting a six pack in a couple of months. Getting a six pack is the real grind, with the way their bodies look, 2 years would be the minimum amount of time to get something even resembling a six pack and that's being nice, 3 years on average with on and off cutting/bulking.

Naw, they can all do it within a year if they really wanted

but he also won Tokyo Game Show surprising everyone

These balls out players/characters can do serious damage at these tournaments, but usually get bopped in long sets.

Weren't those matches also Ft5?

And pepedey would have lost to Snake in NEC if it was this shitty FT2 format there.

Daigo has said it himself in interviews. He prefers to 100% dedicate himself to one character, to feel as comfortable as he can. He admitted that part of the reason he lost to F Champ was that he wasn't good at at the Evil Ryu vs. Dhalsim matchup. He didn't lose because of the matchup. It's not a 1-9 unwinnable match up. When you're losing to a part time player like Champ it's not the MU's fault.

Even if Daigo went to Yun in the character select screen, Xian probably would've went to Gen. If Daigo lost with Evil Ryu then decided to use Yun he'd be stuck with Yun for rest of the set if Xian chose to counter a counter.

Probably would've just ended up in a blind pick tbh

In Daigos defense, there wasn't any indication that he would have to face a Dhalsim at all in this tournament so I'm sure he didn't put any prep time into the MU.

It was a brilliant move by Xian in all honesty but now that everyone in the world knows that Daigo struggles against Sim I think you're going to just see him grind it out like he did the Akuma MU.

I don't know if losing 50 (random number, 20 to 30 pounds would be a bit more natural if done with cutting and bulking on a three month period each) pounds within a year is healthy... You gotta bulk and cut throughout the year which makes it unfeasible if its a year. If you cut throughout the entire year, which isn't recommended, you lose both muscle and fat which isn't bueno.

Edit:

I'll stop getting off topic. Really hope SF4 on PS4 has really good netcode... Time to tweet the Third Party Division at Sony about that.

I can't believe it is 2014 and we still got dudes derailing threads because "Smash is not a fighting game".

Hard to disagree with this.

So after he lost to Xian's 4th number character Dhalsim despite winning Topanga league what was the excuse then?

Nah, it's impossible to make a comment or constructive criticism about a player that isn't actually a disguised insult. Because anything negative must mean that you're trying to be mean or are a fanboy for their opponents!

Losing weight for the pro players is good not because it's healthy, that's a plus though obviously, but keeps them in a specific routine that makes it easier to be diligent with practice. It also means they should get an understanding of focused training as well.

Losing weight is good for everyone in general. Just personal philosophy of mine, but the healthier you are and the better you feel just spreads to everything you do in general.

Isn't just a reaction to you, btw,- it was the "Desperate" = "Insult" thing from Xian digging Sim out yesterday that was completely ridiculous, given that Xian had been blown up multiple times in long sets by Daigo every time he'd tried to use one of his mains. It was desperate, it was brilliant and it was awesome.

It was like something from an anime lol.

Returning to his not only his old main, but apparently, his main before his old main

I don't know man, if you are losing to someone's 3rd rank pocket character like that it's not a good look. It's not like Xian pulled out an obscure or new character like Decapre or even a character that was suddenly super buffed... it was fucking Dhalsim a character that has been around since Sf2. He is not exactly unfamiliar with that match up, he has played against it enough at the highest of level.

And it's not like he has always lost to Dhalsim, when he played Yun he demolished Sim. Do I need to pull out the exhibition match? Shit was fucking free.

When you have something like that in the pocket and you don't pull it out at the biggest stage then IMO you are being stubborn. And that stubborness is going to cost him matches like these. I am sorry for being critical about DaiGOAT but that's how it is.

At this point Daigo really is becoming a manga character

"I will fight this disadvantaged match because this is my fighting style."

"But you have this specific counter in your moveset that will destroy this opponent's style. And you've used it to great effect before! And everyone agrees that it is an easy choice!."

"THIS IS MY WAY OF THE NINJA!"

Fat /=/ unhealthy. People don't know shit about what his diet actually is.

The research of being overweight says otherwise unless you have a condition (i.e. thyroid deficiency) or take medication (i.e. some steroids) that causes you to be overweight. Even if he has a balanced diet with all the micro-nutrients he needs, he's clearly eating at a caloric surplus (going over his daily requirements for macro-nutrients) which is shown with how much body fat an overweight person has.

One of the best with a character losing to a 4th alt shows he's weak in the MU. He probably feels it's a better time investment to work on that MU over playing an entirely different character. He mained Yun years ago, he may feel he isn't comfortable playing him in a short set against a player of that caliber.

I mean, you can mock "expressing himself" and what not but he may feel 100% dedicating himself to one character, completely immersing himself in that character, and learning the game through that character gives him the understanding and instinct needed to be more effective overall. So while Dhalsim may be a weakness he is better in other matchups for it.
