You should check out the Introduction vid first. Looks like each vid will be more of a small description of why the game was chosen as opposed to "This game won. Yay!". They are also putting each staff in a small vid to talk about their favorite games as well. Vids will be updating as the week goes along.

BTW can anyone get gametrailers videos to play in HD? For several months it just won't load HD anything on any browser on my PC, no matter what options I pick, or despite it saying "HD is ON."

Even if you consider it to be a great game, as far as multiplayer goes, it has exactly two modes:
1v1 constructed and 1v1 draft
. That's it. BEST multiplayer should have a diverse range of multiplayer options like... well... literally any other game on this list would have been a better choice.

Having a lot of multiplayer modes does not make them automatically great or better.

Sure, if the game is shitty, it's going to be shitty no matter how many modes it has. All of the games on this list are good games though. So for "best multiplayer", I think choosing the game with the 1) least multiplayer options (2) least opportunity for playing in a party on a couch, (3) most repetitive match-ups and (4) no co-op - is pretty abysmal.

what ?

Best multiplayer is whatever they consider to have the most fun / depth / replay value in any multiplayer game. Quantity of options shouldn't have anything to do with that.

The absence of co-op, multiplayer mode or "most repetititve matchups" doesn't have to mean anything about the quality of it.

Chess is a rather good multiplayer game I'd say, but there's only 1v1.

Oh, slightly less excited for Staff Picks now that I've watched Max Song's. I was expecting a well produced video reel with narration, but instead it's just the staff member sitting in a chair next to the GT narrator and being interviewed. So now there's less focus on the actual picks and more on how personable and charismatic the staff member is, which isn't the best fit for an industry that's largely introverted nerds. I think some people will be great for this format, like Bosman, but it'd be nice if they cribbed Giant Bomb's style a little more in this instance.

I did like Max Song's picks, though! A lot of niche stuff, story games, and RPGs. I feel like we'd get along if we met in person.

I am sad they aren't doing a best score this year after DK:TF, MK8, Hearthstone, etc. came out. Great year for music.

This is like saying playing cards is a better MP experience than Chess or Checkers

Don't agree with both picks.

Towerfall Ascension deserved best multiplayer.

The Last of US: Left Behind deserved best expansion.

Biting off the gods at Giant Bomb. I'm alright with it, I like to see exactly why games are chosen

Heh, not sure what you mean by that as I haven't really seen what they're doing. When things make sense, it's no surprise that more than one of us will think of them.

Blizzard steamrolling through the competition in 2014.

Considering the lack-luster year in software releases it's not surprising. But even still, Hearthstone winning? Come on. If they truly believe that then it was a really-really bad year for MP.

As far as expansions, meh, whatever. RoS was "OK" but the game was still a mess, and it was extremely light on content, which is becoming more and more like a blizzard thing these days. If they said WoD though, even with I just said, I would agree with that. Despite the lack of content in WoD, it probably is the best xpac and MP of the year (technically).

I like that they are also doing the individual opinions of staff members.

On best multiplayer:
I played a decent amount of hearthstone and im pretty surprised it won, though i do know a lot of GT staff love it. Personally I would have given it destiny, even with its massive problems. I recently completed vault of glass for the first time with my friends and it was pretty incredible. If they can get an entire game at this standard it would be mindblowing. Though i find the pvp multiplayer pretty terrible, so I would be quite conflicted at calling it best MP game

Im not surprised by their multiplayer choice, bad pick imo, doesnt really offer mucn but the folks at GT are always raving about that game amd take every opportunity they can to talk about it.

Hearthstone is the third most watched game on Twitch and is on it's way to becoming a full fledged esport. It's a pretty big deal.

Game they gave it to is basically multiplayer only

Some 1 action per minute game with text chat where the opponent can pretty much be considered a bot because there's literally only one strategy in the game per class?

Even Legend of the Red Dragon had more multiplayer than Hearthstone.

So... you have no idea what you're talking about and/or bitter about Zoolocks.
