Maybe I was a bit harsh :(

It's just annoying when people constantly whine about the same stuff over and over again in fighting game-related threads that aren't this one or individual games' OTs.

Yeah- I dunno, it's just really annoying that every single Xrd thread leading up to the game's release was full of people saying "No (insert char name here), no thanks." It was like a hipster battle of who could pine for the most obscure least-played character to pine for. That and the threads were full of people claiming they will wait for the 'definitive version' of the game. It's a bunch of people that liked the idea of talking about the game more than actually playing the game.

Absolutely- but I can't believe people who like Guilty Gear really aren't going to buy the game based on the inclusion of any single character. Somebody says, "Disappointed in no Bridget," and it's fine. Somebody says, "No Bridget, no sale!" is probably a piece of shit that wasn't going to buy the game regardless.

exactly. ive come to realize some people actually like fighting games and some ppl are just on some other shit.

to each his own i suppose

gaf should be ashamed of itself for putting smash4 on a pedestal like that too.

since tizoc is sleeping, i present to you, true madness

i do think that its a little different with guilty gear seeing as how its a character loyalists game where many people only play one character ever...def not a counterpick game. also the characters themselves are so unique from a gameplay point of view that a baiken or venom or whatever player may only understand guilty gear from the perspective of playing that character. that is guilty gear to them. but yeah what you said certainly exists.

it is definitely not gameplay related. plenty of people had -0- problem learning a new character. for ANY game in the past where their mains were not present in the next version.

its definitely something else more related to fandom than gameplay

The content and presentation values are wild but the core game play is increasingly more YMMV with every entry since Brawl. It's the epitome of the kitchen sink kind of design where the team throws everything and then some into the mix. When you see all of the loving detail that goes into character modeling, the things referenced, the art direction and sound composition, you can tell that the team really went above and beyond for the sake of representing entire eras of Nintendo's franchise history. At the same time however, the core gameplay, the main draw to the series, is trending away from the universal things that made previous titles enjoyable for everyone in the hopes of retaining or grabbing an audience that was always going to show up to smack Kirby and Metroid around with a paper fan (RIP paper fan by the way).

People eat up the extra content and things like the bonus modes and grinds for stuff like trophies, custom moves and gear for their Miis and wouldn't really care about finer mechanics in matches as long as there are platforms, Nintendo characters and the goal is still to get the ring out.

Same for pretty much every fighting game. "No karin, no buy!"

Then they buy it day 1 and play Ryu for three years straight without learning a combo.

If people love it because it has references to other things, that makes it the Family Guy of video games.

Nintendo fans just showed what is possible if you get together and organise your votes.

Goty 2015 will be Skullgirls. It is all about the hashtags now.

yea people who were saying things like that i'm sure was never going to actually "play" the game. I'm a Johnny main and I never complained about him not being in the game. I just adapted and chose a new character that sort of fit my style.

Edit: hes playing regular ass ryu right now...i miss his ryu.

I don't, Evil Ryu already covers most of what Ryu can do and then some. More options, more damage, more fun to watch. Plus I play the character so I guess I'm bias.

And it looks like he's playing newbies or people who have no idea how to play the game, eh. Not going to be that fun to watch after all.

So the latest KOF 98FE patch added input display in training mode.Surprised at the amount of dev support this is getting. They aren't done either.

Steam forums still savage as fuck tho

That ken should be ashamed of himself. Daigo just beat him with Guy. The last time he used him was during the SSF4 exhibition vs Justin

does hellpockets commentate KOF often? cause for someone who doesn't know Xrd much, he's a pretty decent commentator.

Fighting game characters are a game unto themselves. I thought we hashed this out a while ago when Lab Zero began their Indiegogo campaign and people wondered why fighting game characters cost 300k to make even on a strict budget. This is especially true with more unorthodox fighters. Entire defensive strategies, offensive strategies, footsie games, combos and mind games are flipped on their heads. A Rachel player couldn't hope to play the game half as competently with Shishigami Bang as a seasoned Bang player and to them Rachel may very well be the game (vice versa). The same applies to people who might play Hakan instead of Ryu or Jam instead of Potemkin.

If you want to believe that people should tie themselves to a brand no matter what, it's fine. Just don't try to paint everyone else in a negative light because they're not ready to jump into an expensive ass pool. I already did that with BB and spent more money than I did with Capcom fighters or any other company for that matter. My wallet has currently been used for more important things and I don't need to prove anything to some sort of supposedly superior GG fan.

Do you even need to organize votes when the game is one of the few fighters that will surpass 5 million unit sales?

more like that's what happens when Sony has a complete void in exclusive output, they were on a bit of a roll the two years before that :p

I thought he's talking about the whole list and how full of Nintendo games it is, Bayonetta sure as hell didn't win GotY based on sales. Though I agree with Gaf in general, 2014 have been a really shitty year outside Nintendo.

This is a great post and applies to tins of games.

Salient point being the pining for the most obscure character for some sense of Internet cred, as asking for a regular character wouldn't be cool/different.

Xrd online interface vs. Smash4's is lol

Does anything have better lobbies than Xrd?

Are you joking? Because I can't tell.

Part of the reason I don't play Xrd as much is because the lobby system is bad imo. Why can't I just choose "quick match" and play? I have to enter a lobby and hope there are people playing with the same rules I am. I know it's almost the same thing, but not quite.

I like Street Fighter 4 system. Quick match, and even choose the skill of my opponent. I also liked Soul Calibur 4 online system.

Daigo ended up going 45-0 in the kumite. Last player was Blue Emblem who is a 5k pp guile.

I stopped watching because fucking Nico kept kicking me out of the stream. I tried to stick around but having to constantly refresh the stream only to get kicked again, I eventually gave up. Seriously what is up with that site and why do they do this? I guess they want people to cough up cash so they can watch streams without any interruption.

As for Blue Emblem, there are some videos on youtube with Daigo and him going at it(online of course) in a pretty long set.
