Outside of his outfit colors, he doesn't seem very french. Then again, maybe they did want another stereotype character.

Yep, French Canadians have mangled the language or so I heard

They basically speak an unrefined version of french heavily loaded with anglicisms. Basically they speak the equivalent of the kind of english you hear Brad Pitt speak in Snatch but half loaded with another language taking over.

Looking great.

Except the god damn sparks everywhere.

SF5 = Ruined by being slow
T7 = Ruined by sparks
MKX = Ruined by being MK

Who is making these decisions?

Whhhhhhhhhat? Sparks are amazing.

They actually toned down the sparks in the latest build so you might get what you want......But I hope that's not the case.

Yep, that spam isn't an issue for Ryu at all. But it would be really interesting to see what characters with no fireballs can do against it. No way we're seeing, say, SFIV's Gief in a game with that kind of fireball spam, and then, if this game's Gief have a way around that, then he probably have a way around anything and it won't be hard for him to get in... Which is also something you can't/shouldn't give Gief!

Cerebella and Potenkim exists.

There's also Alex. I've always thought Cerbella, like Alex, isn't nearly as scary as Gief/Bot when she get in(don't really know much about SG though). And last I've seen SG, Cerebella was still getting zoomed out a lot. As for Pot, he kinda proves my point in that his placement in tier lists have been mainly determined by how good his ability to get-in is.

Bella is one of the most terrifying characters in SG's close range and she is even has her own running animation you can cancel into an armored move, crossup or grab. Even without that she has two ground command grabs with their own close range distances (not counting her AA command grab). Even her lock and load rush punch can be super cancelled if your opponent is on to you. One wrong assist call and you'll know why diamonds are forever. I swear to God her level 3 is more reliable than X-factor for happy birthdays any day of the week.

Like I said in an interview with Harada when he asked me the same question, french players like the character but not because they are patriotic or because they think he represents France very well. They like him because he's a great character, he's charismatic, strong and well... He's french so that's cool but that's not the main thing you know? It doesn't define him, it's a bonus. Like Leo being german and a girl in Tekken, or a character being gay or black... First they have to be great characters and you may like them more because they are from your country, has the same sex as you... But that's not the main thing.

The real problem is french character design in fighting games. They are mostly dandy/emo type characters for males (think Ash or Remy) because Jojo probably lead people to think we were stylish and mannered like Polnareff is. Female characters often fall in the warrior Jeanne d'arc stereotype or the bourgeois/high class family like Elizabeth or King in KOF. I'ts very boring and very, very far from the truth. Abel broke this stupid cliché and it's cool. Lion Rafale and Jean Kujo from Virtua Fighter are also great characters even if Jean falls a bit into the "stylish french guy".

Harada said that japanese people does not know how to represent french people. They think german are tall and blond, that US guys are bald and muscular with tattoos. But the french, they hesitate a lot of often fall in the stereotype of the stylish and mannered character because they think about France as a cultured country with a lot of fine and luxurious brands and it's hard to make a powerful french character.

What I told Harada was that France has a great history of actors with mug/pan (don't know the right word sorry, for you know hard/well define faces) like Lino Ventura, Belmondo or Vincent Cassel. Some of the most known very old french actors are Bourvil, Fernandel or Louis de Funès. More recently there is Jean Dujardin with the Artist and the Nespresso ad. At the opposite young actors are all juveniles with the same sleek face and nobody likes them and they don't shine at all. So when we see Ash or Remy, they simply don't look like what is a real "cool french guy" that would be more in his fourties with a good face. Not a dandy, not a pretty man, but with charisma. And even if French are knowed to be a bit more elegant than US people, they are not refined. They are a bit nag, frank and outspoken.

I mean look at these badass french guys :

No, I think it's probably impossible for netcode technology more advanced than what was used in Street Fighter X Tekken (rollbacks) to be implemented in the current generation of gaming consoles.

Is SFxT considered to be an FG with one of the best netcodes on the market? I'm unfamiliar with these technologies, but he makes it sound like SFxT is the pinnacle, yet ASW does a good job and I don't think they use rollback.

Speaking of which, I want to organize a NeoGAF anime fighter tournament once Uniel comes out in NA, and I have a question (if anyone cares): Does anyone here care about Arcana Heart 3?

Nice post. I bet you gave him crap for making the only French representation in Tekken such a tramp :p

Well there isn't any french tekken character or I am missing something? Lili is the closest but she's from Monaco, so it's not France. It's like saying Van Damme is french. ^^

..how is tekken's netcode anyway? What is the BEST online experience right now for a fighting game?

Skullgirls (GGPO), some Arc games (Under Night In-Birth and Persona are great) and Tekken Tag 2. Others maybe?

TTT2's and TRevo's netcode is probably the best netcode in a fighting game outside of games that use rollback-based solutions (and those are all dead games :p). Granted, Tekken cheats this a bit by having input delay kind of baked into the game, but still.

This is what makes discussions like this "fun", as it's hard to accurately quantify the experience. Personally, I think ArcSys' netcode is straight trash, and it's especially bad in UNIEL due to that game's lack of button buffering.

Seen a couple of people say this about ASW games, and I really have to think it's bad luck or something else. From the games I've played (DoA, VF, SF, MvC for poor examples), ASW games are definitely among the best in terms of netcode.

Good points. It's funny you mention actors--I'm now remembering Jean Reno in Onimusha 3, which was Capcom of course.

LOL

Stuff like MK9 netcode exist and SF4 netcode. And you say that's trash? Yeah no. It's one of the best right now.
Just because the netcode in ArcSys games is better than other games (and I will give you that, as I think MK9 and Capcom games in general are horrible online) does not make it any good.

It might be a bit hyperbolic on my part, but I'm strongly to put any pure delay-based online system in the "trash" category, especially as there are known better solutions.

Well, SF's netcode is poor and MvC3's and DoA's is atrociously bad, so that would explain a lot. I would personally put VF5:FS's above any ASW game, although I think a lot of that has to do with how the mechanics and input handling are done.
