Well this might help cut down on all the endless names being speculated. I am really glad Marvel/Sony is actually interested in Dylan O'Brien. He'd be perfect.

Then, earlier today, both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported that Marvel and Sony were looking to cast much younger than the 31-year-old Garfield for a Peter Parker of high school age. “The plan is for the character to go back to high school in the next films,” says Variety, “and spend more time in the setting and explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom.”

None of this should come as a huge shock for anyone familiar with the hacked Sony emails debacle, which revealed that if Marvel did manage to make a deal with Sony, they’d recast for a high school age Spider-Man. This fits with Marvel Comics’ obvious affinity for the character at that age – both in 616 and the Ultimate Universe – where the comic was more of a soap opera and at its most popular.

The new bit of information here is that names for who might be cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man are apparently already being bandied about. According to Variety, two of those names are Dylan O’Brien (Stiles on Teen Wolf) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson in the Percy Jackson movies).

From the Variety article:
The studio also needs to figure out whether it wants to go with another Peter Parker or introduce another character that suits up as Spider-Man, including Miles Morales, whose father is African American and mother is Puerto Rican.

Marvel's press release already mentioned Peter Parker:
"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

Just wanted to put that out there.

There hasn't been anything that I've seen Logan Lerman in where I haven't wanted to throw a hot iron at his face within five minutes, so I'm sure they're going to cast him just to spite me.

The complaints about either actor being "girly-looking" are really strange to me, since Peter is usually drawn with softer features more often than not. Steve Rogers or Thor, he ain't.

Anxiously awaiting another origin, maybe this time Peter's mom is secretly a KGB agent and the radioactive spider came from Hank Pym's lab?

Jk, no more origin stories, please I beg of you

I'm still bummed out that they're going for young Spidey but I can see Dylan play the part. Would probably be also an incredible boost to his career. Do it.

yeah and Peter is built like a dancer or a runner. Who can dead lift a freight train.

Yeah I really dont understand the "girlish" thing.

As an unlovable, unattractive nerd, I kind of want Peter to be the same so it's all the more enjoyable when he gets the attention of the girl.

This Dylan guy seems good as I said in the larger Spidey thread.

I'm not really sure what I want though, a younger actor seems like it'll be fun because it'll be nice to see a young actor grow up alongside the role much like RDJ has. That being said I'm not entirely sure how they can do high-school Spider-Man for long given that the MCU seems to follow release dates in chronology so if he's 17/18 in Civil War and the Stand-Alone he sure as shit wouldn't be by Infinity War.

I hope its Dylan O'brien, I hate Logan Lerman. Guy comes off as a little douche.

Garfield would still be best but that ain't happening.

Miles is a legacy character. Establish Peter, and then introduce Miles down the road when you want more spider-man, but the original actor wants to move on.
