Kingsman - (Second) Best action movie of 2015

Hehehe, so it still doesn't answer if it was one-take or not.
From another interview
We didn’t do it all in one take, there’s a few tricks in there to make it look like one take.

Plus sequel plans
This movie is an origin story of Eggsy. The next movie will be the true modern day gentleman spy. I think it will be amazing to watch Eggsy go off and be a spy from beginning to the end of a movie.

Anyone else feel a bit disconcerted about the global warming denialism in this movie, then flat out making the villain a Global warming advocate?
And then going so far as to imply Obama would go for such a plot and exploding his head. Plus the blatant Sun newspaper references.
The whole thing ended up seeming a bit like a gross Fox/News propaganda piece with awesome actions scenes.

Colin Firth
personally killed a bunch of Fox News demographic
in the film.

Anyone read the graphic novel? Any good? What did they change in the movie?
I have:
Colin firth is Eggsy's uncle in the book
Valentine is white in the book
Gazelle is black and a dude
Mark Hamill is literally Mark Hamill in the book
Mark Hamill dies at the start
I can't recall Michael Caine's character but I could be wrong
In the book Valentine primarily kidnapped celebs and was not too bothered about saving powerful world leaders
Church scene happens near the start and doesn't involve Colin Firth
.

I think when people refer to one take, they refer to the very beginning of the scene when
Firth moves through the aisle
, but i still think this moment has cuts. If it doesn't WOW.
Listening to the Raid 2's commentary track Gareth Evans said that the long single take shot at the prison brawl had many cuts stitched together. He was like "and let me show you where I did some cuts, right here when he's stabbed in the neck CUT! And when this guy crawls away with a knife in his leg CUT! Oh and CUT! Here and here CUT!"

Damn, they screwed you over. That was a great scene.

Anyway, I really loved it. I loved the line about how serious Spy movies are nowadays, because this movie is the total opposite. It was a just a fun, and extremely over the top ride.

Plus, I LOVED the reference to
Trading Places
. I think I was the only one who got the reference in the scene with Eggsy and Merlin.

I love the look of disgust on his face when Firth asks him if he's seen Pretty Woman.

the comic is bad.. i hope they don't follow it to much

Pretty much like Kickass, Vaughn took the better concepts from the book and made changes that would make Millar's story more likeable and awesome. I have no plans on reading the book, but the movie is definitely fucking great, and you shouldn't feel like you're missing anything by avoiding Millar's comic work and sticking with the movies.

We can all agree that Gazelle was one of the best villian hench(wo)men in a while, right? Up there with Mad Dog from the Raid, he's the only one I can really think of. Wish we had seen more of her

Yeah I agree, Vaughn have a knack for taking good concepts and expanding it for the better. Now this is how you do a loose adaptation.

Oh yeah, she was great. I think this was one of the few movies where I was a bit sad when the villains died. Valentine and Gazelle were amazing.

Also there was so much product placement I was surprised it wasnt a sony film. Mcdonalds, Guiness, The Sun, Adidas. Must have helped a lot with the budget quite a lot.

Product placement usually annoys the shit out of me but I thought it was perfectly done in the movie. And possible added quite a bit of flavour to the movie.

But it was done right and used for smart comedic purposes in the movie,
especially Mcdonalds
. It also wasn't constantly in your face.

Wish I can say the same thing about Wanted. I thought the movie was ok but then I read the book and realized just how much better and crazy it could have been if they had stuck to the original super villain plot instead of assassins.

The church scene is fucking stellar, but how did you guys feel about the symphony of
head explosions
?

I saw an advanced screening of the film and the effects weren't fully done, and I still loved the shit out of that scene. Theatre kind of got silent during, and then exploded by the end.

It was amazing. I completely wasn't expecting that.

Just got back from watching this.

Holy smokes what a freaking great movie.

Loved every second of it.

Great action, awesome humor and funny jokes, interesting characters and great acting. All the action for the movie was awesome, and how many people said. Holy cow that
Church scene.

Best action movie i've seen in a while.

Also,
the dogs name being JB for Jack Bauer
killed me. Awesome stuff!

Probably the last movie I will see at a theater.. The movie itself was good and I quite enjoyed it.. But some prick brought their 3 year old kid with them who cried and made noises throughout the movie, and between that and the other normal noises such as talking, and people eating popcorn it was so swann distracting.

Wife and I picked this instead of that piece of of shit 50 shades. Holy shit what a ride. Loved every second of it. I hope that it makes money. My theater was pretty empty. Would love to see more of these get made.

Behind-the-scene details on the church scene

Yup, noticed Brad Allan's name in the credits. Props to Colin Firth for sticking with it! The scene goes on for much longer than you expect for a point too like they said, as to explain
Colin Firth's character has gone absolutely mental
.

No, I got comic bufoonery. Nothing more.

I laughed so hard, as did others in the cinema.

I really liked the movie, though I didn't like what happens right after the church scene at all. I really felt like if sequels were made that event will hamper them, but who knows. Ballsy though, so I'll give them credit.

Got out of this 2 hours ago... and yeah, the opinions in here are absolutely correct. This might just be one of the best action movies of the year.

The story was perfectly fine, and the acting was great. Roxy needs more screen time in the sequel imo and yeah, they need to bring Firth back somehow.

But those action scenes though... just outright amazing through and through. I really loved that you could actually see what's going on during the fights and all that stuff. Too many action scenes these days are hacks and have a crapton of cuts that you can't focus on what's going on. I fncking hate when they do that lol. But here... the production team needs to get an award for this shit, especially the editors.

As others have said, the church scene alone is worth the price of admission. It reminded me a lot of the one-take elevator scene from the original Oldboy... just pure action eye candy lol.

i need to see this again. So enjoyable. Who was the
amputee bodyguard for Valentine? She was hot. Is she really an amputee?

EDIT - Nope.

Saw this last night and liked it a lot. I wish it had even more action scenes, or scenes with Eggsy free-running. I liked his little bit of escaping those guys at his house.

I bet there are tons of little references and jokes I missed out on during my first viewing.

I liked how at the end the code
on the door spells out "anal" or "cock".

Anyway, great film. Mark Strong was awesome as well and I really hope they will make a sequel as I feel this series has potential.

My afternoon showing was fully packed. I could've sworn someone brought a 9-year old kid into the theatre o_o

Surprisingly a number of children in my showing, too. It's R in the US, but 14A in Canada, which is a bit more lax.

And one of the first lines in the movie? "FUCK."

It's the Pan's Labyrinth effect: trailer shows a movie with kid/teen as the main character = hey, it must be good for kids.

I'd certainly not have pegged Kingsman to be the kind of movie it was based on the marketing. The marketing made it seem like Spy kids mixed with bond with action, what it is, is quite compelling but definitely not for kids. Still, it is a rated R movie, so i'm not sure how surprised they could be.
