I mean the commands that we issue to our teammates such as attack same target, or only use this ability etc.

According to Famitsu interview right before this walkthrough, it was revealed that there are ways to set the way party acts in battles, and even a command for asking party member to surround the enemy depending on x amount of enemy left.

Does anyone know what Tabata and host are saying at the start of the gameplay demo when Noctis enters the water? It sounds like the host asks him how much further can Noct go into the water and they move just a little further in and that's it. Can he not swim? They showed Noctis swimming in the 2013 trailer.

Looking good. Just two complaints: Not a fan at all of how characters look and no female companions (which is very disappointing to me), but anyway gameplay looks solid and graphics are awesome.

Maybe swimming in the final game and what was shown is as far as you can go in the demo.

We need someone proficient in Japanese who can help translating these parts.

This basically explain how the chain system works, and what is the role of each weapon slot (Break, Rush, Slash, Counter and Raid), as well as what exactly is the Phantom Sword, which i think is something closer to KH:BBS Styles, since there is that changeable icon on the right and those abilities (EX ABILITY are back from the Versus days) on the bottom.

Any help would be welcome!

Oh hey, Ex Ability. That's something from Versus. Hope one of the fine folks over at Twitter translate some of these like they did with the previously released camp images.

No, wait, it was Ex-Arts back then.

Gone through half the vid analysing it. I am liking the battle system for now as I understand stuff a little better.

The only thing that has been bothering me since I saw this stream, and only now can I put my finger on it, are the bright colors used in the UI/particle effects. The bright colors really clash with the subdued color scheme of the game. Darkening the colors a little would make it gel a little better I feel. But this is a minor issue that probably is only bothering me. I'll get used to it.

Break is a first-level attack that breaks the target's posture/stance. Rush is a follow-up attack that brings you in closer range, and Slash is a final attack that takes away a lot of strength. Counter is a powerful counter attack, Raid is an air attack after Jump.

Acue Ecsilo (don't know it exactly, I assume it's Latin or something) is a sword that gives the owner Time-Space shift powers, making it possible to use various shift abilities. The two Ex Abilities are Shift Break and Shift Avoid.

The Weapon stuff is translated here btw:

I took these all from the latest ATR: 1.)The weapon system lets players set weapons in according to what way they want which action to be executed, listed in this order:

BREAK:The first attack which breaks enemies' posture/stance -so for example you want a quick head start,in which you prioritize speed of execution rather than damage, you then equip your LONGSWORD for your BREAK.

RUSH:A continous string of attacks, basically the "hold down button" combo -setting the SPEAR(High critical chance weapon) for RUSH would cause Noctis to combo with his Dragon Spear when you hold down Square. Thus meaning if you equipped LONGSWORD(Which is named Avenger) for your

BREAK,Noctis would first start the battle with a quick slash from his Avenger, then by holding down the button Noctis would then combo with his spear.get the drift?

SLASH:The last hit of the combo, which deals a SIGNIFICANT amt. of damage -like the above, your weapon in this action category would decide what weapon Noctis will use for his Finisher,Tabata highly recommends using heavy weapons on this action, like the Partizan(although in this game it looks more like a long axe than a spear)Heavy weapon on Finishers would stagger even slightly lager enemies apparently.

COUNTER:You need me to explain this? -your weapon here would decide how Noctis counterattacks on successful parries. You will know when to parry by waiting for the enemy to shine "white" and then

ATTACKING at the same time, plus PARRIES can be then chained into CO-OP attacks if there is an ally nearby, which can be then chained into FURTHER combos depending on how close you are with your allies(Tabata clarified that throughout the story,Noctis' relationshhip grows with the members by talking with them while camping, undergoing events, etc.which would then yield to new co-op attacks)

RAID:Your aerial attacks, the attack you make from jumping -Again,self explanatory.although he didnt do too much of it in the video,Tabata already clarified that AERIAL ATTACKS are moved to the LAST PART of development since they are among the easiest so the demo wont include too much aerial combat.

*SIDE NOTES: LARGE SWORDS(Zweihander) ingore enemy DEF,Noctis has 2 LONGSWORDS in the video,LONGSWORDS are balanced in all stats but rarely has any abilities, except for the violet one he was wielding called the BLOOD SWORD,which drains enemy HP as you attack.

ALSO:Above his weapon configuration screen there is an emblem, which when Highlighted gives out the name "Acu-Ecilo" which gives Noctis the ability to use Shift Break and Shift Raid, teleporting at high speeds, beside the emblem is a left and right scroll marker, which might hint that Noctis will gain even more powers for the actual game.

Well, if it's anything like FFXIII, the demo is actually their first milestone for making a relatively complete gameplay experience that serves as the model for a final game.

Most companies cut a piece out of their completed game for their demo.

But Square Enix creates a demo experience, and then uses that milestone as their guide to craft a full game.

Probably why everything takes ten years then.

Top Form increases Attack, Defense, and EXP acquired by a large amount. Focus increases the critical rate. Resistance makes you invulnerable to bad status effects.

Thanks to both.

Honestly, this doesn't feel anything like the automatic combat Tabata suggested in the past, but instead you simply choose which weapon to use for opening, final and counter attacks, plus ground and aerial combos, but the system itself doesn't choose anything, so there's no contextual element (aside from party attacks).

Plus there is the Phantom Sword, which feels like a Limit Break with various iterations (with different skills i suppose) of some sort that you can collect while exploring.

And then there are party-attacks, "gambits", magic and summoning, plus character growth and possibly weapon customization.

Sounds like a friggin' deep and solid system, and the fact that there's very little automatic (as in non chosen by the player) input should put everyone at ease.

We have seen 8 weapons for Noctis in the demo (5 normal weapons + 3 phantom swords). I wonder if there is more than 3 phantom swords in the demo....kinda doubt it.

A bit late, but posting nonetheless…

(Hold R1) Focus

[To get a better view on the trees falling down. It's what happens a few seconds after the short cutscene I think. The next scene with a non standard camera view is controlled by the player. That means that although the button prompt dissappeard it's still possible to change the view by pressing R1.]

(Option) Destination Info Update

[Pressing Option will bring you directly to the infos I guess.]

I think it's just the progression of the quest. By heading into the area, you witness the anomaly (which is what the focus thing was?), and hence trigger the next part of the quest which is to go investigate where it took place.

Is the battle system totally 100% action? Like, i would press the square button to shoot, or slash or whatever, like mass effect or something?

Any thoughts on the demo size, seems like a pretty large map and we haven't even seen the dungeon yet, with cutscenes, English/Japanese voice acting, and multiple soundtrack songs. Seems like this could be pretty big. (Will the game even fit on one Blu-Ray)

Yep. Fully Action-based. Basically like a flashier Dark Souls, even with a similar level-up at bonfires/camps only system^^
Okay, maybe "a mix of Kingdom Hearts and Dark Souls" describes it better.

Makes sense. I guess I kinda over-analyzed that part a bit. Edit: "Check the details of the strange activity" actually changes later to "Chase after Smoke Eye" (Edit2:) and moves up ("Head towards the place where a strange activity took place" disappears). Duckroll's right: the task in white on top merely shows the last completed objective, there's no difference of level between the two.
