well you established joe didn't have what it takes to install windows so i just took it from there

When you personally don't want to do something, do you automatically attribute that to stupidity? I still don't see the crux of your argument. Why do Steam Machines exist when general prebuilt PCs do?

Regarding the Vive, if the -ONLY- difference between the devkit and the consumer version are the cables, I'll bite. I'm tired of waiting for the oculus rift.

For you.
uhh, your living room solution is your console dude

...that makes exactly zero sense. What's stopping someone from wanting to play both consoles games and PC gamings on his living room? Am I stupid for plugging my laptop to my TV while I have a PS3?

get a console then?
Again, there's no sense at all on what you're saying. Joe wants to play PC games on his living room and take advantage of Steam sales. There.

If you have a Mac, you can play a lot of non-demanding PC exclusives like Civ and all the Blizzard games* so I don't think Mac users would need to get a Steam machine if they already had a console. If they don't, it could be useful.

*At playable settings.

My Alienware X51 is basically a Steam Machine.
It's about the size of a XB1. Really love the portability of it. Have thrown it in my book bag on numerous trips and played games while traveling. I actually beat Transistor that way and got 2nd place in that broken SSF4 tourney while traveling with it. It's not very easy to make a PC with console like shape and size yourself as compared to how easy a tower make is.

Steam Link is for people without another PC or those who don't want to use their laptops to stream to. It's not magic.
How is not rendering to the desktop display and just streaming it magic? I'd pay $50 for that so I could play Steam games in the living room while my wife is at the desktop.

i'm asking the same question :p

well, you can hook your laptop to your tv and play all your windows games. you can format this thing and install windows and then you can play windows games, as long as the controller thing is as good as it promises, but in that case you could just buy the controller and hook it on your laptop and save yourself some money

to me it sounds like a waste if you already have a computer, just buy the streaming thing and the controller

also i never said you're stupid, wtf

Network Connectivity in certain areas aren't all great.
I know back home I would be better off with buying a steam machine with slow downloads as opposed to trying to stream with a low quality and 30 FPS despite what my machine would actually want to give me. That's if I didn't want to move my PC of course which for me isn't a problem, but I can see it being for others.

I haven't used Steam IHS before, but reports are that the game is actively running on the main PC. Meaning the computer is essentially useless while you are streaming.

Is there a quick resource to mods and whatnot for maintaining these Steam games from the old man era? Not necessarily gameplay mods or anything (not entirely opposed but on first playthrough), just actually running them at a native resolution and best it can be for modern computers and such.

Lookin at Deus Ex: GOTY, and KOTOR1/2, right now.

Pcgamingwiki is a good place to start.

don't do this to yourself, you'll spend hours trying to mod it into something modern only to have it half work and just give up on the whole thing.

ehhh good point. I did that widescreen fix and it looks pretty good rather than having an obnoxiously big hud. Time to play it for a good half an hour and completely forget about it

Dusk Golem

A 21st Century Rockefeller
Neverending Nightmare, in my opinion, isn't all that great.

It's got an interesting art style, the audio is good, there's a few interesting ideas... But there's not too much more for me to say. Gameplay is... Okay, if not super simple. Mainly just walking left or right, looking for an item, some enemy avoidance or running from in places. And that'd even be okay... But the story completely lets itself down. Playing it, I knew it was going to be a game that would be made or broken by its story, and it just does not deliver. It has all this mystery, surrealism, themes, and absolutely no pay-off. I don't want to say too much, but the game has three-endings, and not the good kind. Basically, there's no real meaning to everything as the endings suggest different potential 'answers', and with that, are the most cliche-horror answers you could think of.

It's not terrible, worth it if interested, and there are some good scares (many front-loaded) and moments, but there's just not enough there, and what is there isn't backed up by a complete vision to be a worthwhile experience.

i finally figured out what my favorite steamgaf moment was.

Shadownet's Great Detective Challenge

you must've missed the HolyBaikal meltdown.

Javadots during Modbots inital days, I think that was around Summer Sale 13.
And all the cool gifs of that time.

or him.

I believe this is correct. I haven't exactly sat at my desktop while using it, but all the processes are running on it.

Yep, that's been my experience, which isn't a problem for me since I don't let anyone else use my desktop anyway, but it is kind of weird to have your game running essentially on two screens.

Oh man Dying Light was running like crap on my PC. Jumping from 30 to 60 just in the starting apartment. Wonder if I can lock it at 30fps. Will probably have to use nvidia setting.
Since to keep 60fps I'm either gonna have to lower resolution or something. I'm keeping high textures, vsync, and AA.

Valve is the worst entertainment company ever in pushing out information. You would think when the Stem Controller is placed at the store, price tag+release date and all, that they would post a clear and professional video of the controller in action. YOU WOULD THINK. But nope. Am i supposed to watch shaky cam video from journalists who filmed themselves playing and can't show the gameplay and the controller in the same shot? Am i supposed to watch people who are trying the final design for the first time for 15mins? On what basis should i get excited about it? Where are the demonstrations that are going to win me over? Anything at all?

Remember that one single video they showed of playing different games on the controller and how they were supposed to be more? Remember they teased a solution for fighting games?
