SimCity a disaster for you? Take a look at Cities: Skylines (not related to CitiesXL)

You can go to their profile page, and under the "videos" section, there is another section called "past broadcasts", or "previous broadcasts" or something like that.

Yes and I am actually watching the previous streams. He is experimenting with frontage roads in the stream I am watching right now and they actually work quit good in game.

I started up Banished for the first time in a while, got the Colonial Charters mod which is a nice change.

Modding new buildings is super easy, people are already working on them. I imagine in just a couple weeks people's cities will lot a lot different than launch.

The graphical mods really should leave the achievements enabled. Gonna be annoying to decide to play for an achievement as mini campaign or use the mods.

Im seeing all these people preordering this game and it's making me confused.

I don't understand the point in preordering a digital game. It makes sense for a physical game because you don't have to wait in line or worry about it being sold out, but it just seems strange to me that people buy a game in advance before reviews or any potential release problems that may not be known as of yet. Even if the game already looks absolutely fantastic and there's almost zero chance of anything alarming popping up upon release, it just seems safer to wait until buying the game at release and there's literally no drawbacks for a digital game.

Because we get extra stuff for preordering.

Generally speaking, this is true. However you also need to consider:

Preorder bonuses - You get extra stuff for buying early. May or may not be worth it.

Preloading - You can save time on release day and just jump right in. Good for people with slow connections

Preorder sales - For this game in particular, Green Man Gaming had a good deal that was only up for a part of the preorder period.

Some sites like GMG offer big preorder discounts. I got this game for 21$. The discount often goes away once the game launches. Sometimes it stays.

Right now I can get it for $21. I may not be able to after it releases. I don't have a whole lot of money, so it's nice to get it as cheap as I can.

Ah, that makes sense. I never really liked the concept of preorder bonuses, seems to be encouraging blind hype which is not a good thing. So i dont want to support that practice. Preloading is something I can understand though and that sale is pretty good.

Combination of low risk of the game sucking and a discount available on GMG. It's perfectly reasonable.

EDIT: beatened!

There are hundreds of hours of gameplay footage people have been watching as well as the rather large pre-order discount at GMG. A lot of the people pre-ordering aren't exactly just doing it blindly. Watching the people who put up vids/streams that some semblence of an idea of what they're doing can tell you a lot about the game (both pros and cons), plus there's not a whole lot of changes you'd expect from an older build that's a week or two before release to the final initial release version.

Actually had no idea this was a new game series. I thought it was a sequel to Cities XL series.

Cities Skylines |OT| Excels as a sim city; NOT from the makers of XL or SimCity

Why do you care so much what other people do? There are some small extras you get, there are also GMG discounts and the positive response from streamers pretty much guarantees that for me at least I'll get sufficient entertainment from it to warrant the price. It's not online only so I don't have to worry about server issues. There isn't much more the publisher could do to be more transparent apart from the review embargo and considering they're still patching the game up to release, I can understand the reason for them doing this.

I do. Discounts. GMG and other similar sites have had a pretty nice discount if you pre-order the game and based on the previews it feels like a safe bet. Sure, there is a small chance of some problems that are not detected until release but for 16 GBP (in my case) that wouldn't feel like a big loss.

You don't see the merit in preordering the game and getting it for $21, or waiting until release and having to pay $30 instead.

Also Digital Preorders do often come with extras. This isn't anything particularly new for PC market for the past few years.

In fact by far a lot often most of the newest PC releases are digital only and don't have a physical release meaning if one was going to buy the game anyways, it would be digital to begin with, so narrows down to the point of getting the game at a significant discount with extras, OR pay full price without those extras.

That's a pretty good OT actually. The thread title really should reflect that CSL is not from the same people as Cities XXL, because so many people think it is.

I guess... but its not nearly as snarky or clever as just "Sim City 5" which basically implies the same thing (i.e that its good)

I love that my girlfriend is super excited to play this game. We both haven't been excited for one game in awhile if ever. She sat beside me while we watched Etalyx's stream and I told her about Twitch and how there' s a chat component, but it's on the phone since we were using the Chromecast. I handed her the phone and after a minute of looking at the mass wall of chat, she got way too excited. She made a login and started chatting. Moments later she got obsessed with wanting Etalyx to notice her and say her name on the stream. I secretly logged into my computer and tipped the man. She exploded in happiness when he said my name out loud. I then had to go tip him again under her name. Haha, it was hilarious to see. She got a high off of it.

Grats to the winner, if they were from GAF.

Key was just given out.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I guess the right number (2) on my first try but put it in the wrong spot.... Sigh...so close!

Oh well... Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the game in a couple of weeks.

I was hunched over my steam and ready to copy and paste, and the number guessing thing totally caught me off guard lol

Guessed 4 instead of 2, dammit

Guessed 1, then 2, got a different screen, was super excited, all about that duplicate code screen. lol

Oh well, I needed this weekend anyways.

Lol, I guessed 2 too, but then it was the duplication screen. I would have liked it early to stream and get my twitch life going, since early access can be a good way to boost viewers.

I think I'm done watching this game until release. I want to jump in a little blind

The roads seem to work rather straightforward watching Quill's road overview. Are those players not dragging roads in the right direction?

Stuff like this....

And roads junctions dont seem to have any stop signs or right of way

That's probably the issue. I ran into this very same issue earlier today when I plunked down one of the interchanges. The roads I built off of it were broken at first because I didn't drag it in the correct direction. Once I realized this, it was a very easy fix and probably won't be an issue in the future.

These streamers are killing me, one is singing bad karaoke and doing easy mode and one is wondering why his people next to landfills and windturbines are getting sick.

GRAAH, give me my game already so I don't have to rage behind the screen at others incompetence.
