Batman Arkham Asylum/City Remaster (Rumor)

Gut reaction: Incoming Arkham Knight delay.

It might, to be fair, just be to give everyone a chance to get set up with the storyline up to AK... but my gut says it's a stopgap.

Theyre saying This will be out for holiday. I cant imagine AK gets pushed to 2016.

So are they going to include the performance-crippling PC options so that console gamers get the full feel of being a PC arkham owner or are they going to risk leaving them out so that console gamers feel neglected?

Because I kinda don't see how they would coming out fine either way.

What performance-crippling options are these?

I'm close to 100%-ing my current playthrough of Asylum, and have played City on and off, both on PC. Are there issues I'm supposed to be looking for? I haven't encountered them yet, but then again I only tweaked the default options a bit since I'm happy with the looks and performance.

In any case, prior to getting my PC I would've been very happy about this rumored remaster. But since I have all three currently released Arkham games on PC, and they run and look great, I find myself not caring as much. Although console-only owners who haven't played these games should jump at this remaster quickly... by far two of the best games of last gen.

I should just sell all of my PS3 games at this point. Everything will be on PS4.

This gen will have 75% remasters and 25% new games.

Awesome man...I honestly don't mind playing some of the better games of last gen over on my ps4 now. Wish they would have gotten out last year but this year isn't so bad. Just played tomb raider reboot and its a great experience. Boohoo to the remastered hate crowd, not everyone has time to play all the good games on release anymore. Would love Souls remasters, MGS collection, ICO and Sotc, and Infamous.

I do think this is the last year to get these things out though. Next gen only games will start to outshine them.

Hopefully this will get more people to play Arkham Asylum. It is absolutely criminal how few fans of Arkham City have played the (IMHO superior) first game in the series.

I would be much more interested if Origins and maybe Blackgate were included, but as it stands Ill probably skip this one, Ive already played through all 3 multiple times.

Well, I still haven't completed the games yet. Maybe when the package goes down to $20 I'll grab it.

Got a couple hours into the PC version of Asylum before GFWL killed my save and I never went back. Always meant to go back to the games, everyone talks of Asylum being a pretty great Metroid style game.

I'm done with third party remasters. I'll just start buying those games on PC and remaster them myself every 4 years or so with a new graphics card.

arkham knight is coming out in 3 months and they want to release this "duology" this christmas. wth? they should have released it LAST christmas, after they announced the delay of arkham knight. by the time this comes out, knight will be available for cheap everywhere.

edit: someone above mentioned a possible delay for arkham knight. this is the only way this remaster would make sense.

Agree with this. Especially if having to delay Arkham knight to the fall and launch this in the summer would make up for it, if it launches at around £30.

I might consider this if it came with Origins so I could have the entire series on PS4. Otherwise, I'm quite ok with them on the PS3.

Can anyone actually show evidence that the rise of remasters has coincided with a decrease in new releases? Seriously. Because if we can't show that, why the hell is everyone making such a huge fuss about it?

My only complaint here is that it would've been nice to have Origins in there.

Ok.
I can understand remaster of the game from PS1 era. From DC era. Even from PS2 era. But games from 5,6,7 years ago!? What's next? Assassin's Creed 1-3 remaster? Modern Warfare 1-3? Mass Effect 1-3?
Uncharted 1-3 and Gears of War 1-3 is the only matter of time. Hilarious.
Yeah, there are kids out there you started gaming with the PS4/Xbone and the devs want to give them the opportunity to also experience the prequels. Bloody disgusting....

I'm not sure what all the outrage is about. Don't developers typically outsource this kind of work to a third party? Meaning no time is being taken away from newer games and they're able to generate revenue to work on future titles.

I would not mind going back and playing these. Just hope they come out before Arkham Knight. Probably won't bother if they come out after.

Would be cool if at the end of the year they release a bundle with the arkham trilogy. Great for people who haven't played any of the games.

No Origins is a huge oversight IMO as the game is the only one with MP and it's pretty fun.
Now it'll just be barren forever.

Nobody is forcing you to buy remasters guys. Why all the hate?
I think its becoming increasingly difficult to imagine that all these development teams out there being paid to do remaster/port work isn't detracting from original games, even if they are just smaller ones.

so why do people hate remasters? you realise that a remasters aren't made instead off other games as they require fewer people, take a short amount of time to make and cost very little.

personally moving these games off of archaic console hardware is great the new systems are much more general purpose which increases the likelihood of BC being a thing next gen.

its also important to preserve the history of this industry instead of discarding old games when a new system comes out. keeping games alive through re-releases isnt a bad idea until all games work on all hardware. and this is much better than the current precedent of forgetting the majority of older games when new systems come out.

Origins is fucking bad. It can get it's own remaster beside WB Montreal's Suicide Squad game. Rocksteady's trilogy should stand alone.

Creative bankruptcy aside, it would be nice if they actually did something with this remaster. It is quite easy at this point to run the PC version of City with 1080p 4xSGSSAA in stable 60fps. It looks fantastic. Is it a pipe dream to expect anything close to this on PS4? Maybe with unlocked fps between 40-60fps?

Doesn't include the red headed step child that is Origins so I'm out. I passed on that game so as to not get franchise fatigue, but wouldn't mind giving it a go on PS4.

Also if this remaster is for holiday 2015, could Batman AK be delayed into 2016 then?

It has the best story of the three, but the combat's broken and Rocksteady didn't make it. Not much of a surprise that they're leaving it out.

My question is... when is this going to end? Remasters need to die a horrible death.

Never.

I believe the main reason for all the remasters is due to the change to standardised x86 architecture. By doing the work now, it allows the games to be backwards compatible with PS5 and the next Xbox without much work done to them. Not to mention allow them to port to tablets and phones when the technology becomes advanced enough. By doing them now instead of later, they get sales from the starving games audience and for the audience that never played the games before. Not to mention with the multiple sales Sony and MS have on their store, this gives them steady profit that will last for years, allowing them to recoup their investments in no time.

I'd rather they do the work now so that in 5-10 years, I can just get the games for $5 and play them on my future console rather than having to dig out my old console and/or use my PC.
