Very fun, loved it. Of course it has stupid flaws but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

There's actually a bit of teamwork here so why tell anyone to "do as you please?
Adou Saga's wrist problem is irrelevant lol
Time limit rule only implemented to show that the 3 main units can be combined...
...into some kind jumbled Gundam not so different to Reiji's "custom" at the season 1's ED.

Loved all the shounen shoutings, though. And they really are building up to something big (open tournament/world championship) which may or may not lead to season 3.

Episode 24

Really enjoyed the fight in a pure shounen brawler sense, and the final 1 on 1 fight with the Back-On OP was sogood.gif. But damn, the writing really stinks in Try.

In the original series Sei was clearly depicted as an above average genius builder who simply lacked the skill and confidence for battling, and Reiji was the gifted alien fighter who was a natural at controlling whatever Sei built. That dynamic made it naturally to root for them as they proved that they had what it took to win the world tournament. In this sequel, they want to have it both ways - the heroes are beginners who are shown to be weak and to lack both experience and skill compared to many other players. But at the same time, they are the super underdogs who will triumph over all simply because they BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES. It doesn't really work for me and made most of the series a lot of less engaging.

Oh well, at least with all the teasing for season 3, we'll get to see the characters we actually care about again eventually. :p

So we got sei face for one second this episode with a world tourney tease. but overall the final battle was pretty anti climatic, unlike the Sei/reiji vs Evil Meijin then the all stars ep with team old man fucking shit up of build fighters. the interchangeable polycap thing was interesting, but i would have rather seen a gattai gimmick since sakai helped yuuma not be a scrub and redo the gunpla.

next ep is meijin cup, and will likely be build fighters try version of the gundam amusement park ep of season 1 only not as good. also i really really for the love of god hope they go back to 1 vs 1 for the world tourney season, and have sei wreck sekai's shit like first round so we can go back to characters that don't suck. Sakai and tryon 3 can stay, since he has proven to be the superior gunpla shingyo school disciple.

Build Fighters Try 24:
Uuuuuuuuuuugh.
No thank you.
That was pretty lame, which is a huge bummer. If there's no payoff in Season 3, I'll just buy model kits and avoid the shows for a while. :/
At least I finished my set while watching the episode:

Well at least the wrist injury was a non-factor. That would have cheapened the victory. Also I can't believe they didn't show Adou's triple-combined-fang thingy and how Yuuma would have dealt with it. Considering that was what beat him the last time they fought, it would have demonstrated quite nicely the progression of Yuuma's skills.

Absolutely gross fight, I couldn't enjoy it at all because all the shit piled up to reach this point and how I don't think they deserve to be there next year.

Next episode I fully expect Yuuma to win the builder's thing too because why the fuck not?

So I'm assuming S3 will just be us Watching Try use my super techs to reach the finals.

That's it?

It was a good episode, for the most part, I guess.

Regarding Adou,
I'm glad they didn't play the "I only lost the match because of my wrist" card. Him telling Allan and the Doctor to piss off was great too.

Regarding Shia,
how underwhelming. Like, they hyped her up so much, she took down the final boss of Gundam AGE alone; and she spends the entire fight as basically a medpack and overshield? Not only that, the only time she attacks is a beam saber slash and she runs right into the Winning Boomerang like some kind of Nicol expy? Wow.

Regarding Wilfrid,
he fought I guess? He didn't really deviate from his established character or pull any new tricks except lance bits. And I found it amusing that Junya taught Sekai his finishing move just so that he could counter it. Though, other than amusing, I'm not really sure what to think of it.

Regarding Yuuma,
good show? Even if he has gotten super self-sacrificing lately. That little 'what if this was gundam' thing was cute too.

Regarding Fumina,
she put on a much, much better show than her counterpart, almost taking out Shia at one point early on. Though I guess she did finish the job later. Also full power winning beam is always good.

Regarding Sekai,
I'm really glad they toned down the bird dispensing. We even got Burning Finger Sword. Sekai's best when he's not just spamming firebirds in a corner and actually getting up close and punching shit.

Regarding 'Sir Not Appearing in this Film',
I guess Sei technically appeared in the end. I'm guessing they didn't want to pay Sei's VA to show up for those few blurbs and had Yuuma read his lines or whatever. Weak. But hey, S3 confirmed. Hopefully the original director will come back and save gunpla. This might end up being the second longest gundam series after SEED? (Assuming you don't count all of UC as one thing.)

Regarding the insert music,
it was great to hear Back On again. I had a sneaking suspicion that GBF's quality is proportional to how many Back On songs there are in an episode. This confirms it. (Not really, but it's a hilarious thought.)

Regarding my final thoughts on the series,
meh, not as good as S1. There was too much time spent on the flashy and new (characters, weapons, techniques) and not enough development of those new, flashy things before introducing the next. Hell, even in this episode, bird dispensing is now outdated, but Burning Finger Sword is going to get no development or explanation except "MIDBATTLE EVOLUTION?!" which is basically "we didn't want to animate Sekai blocking his moves with techniques he already had so here's Sekai with a flaming sword". Meh. Also the enemies of the week tended to have better GunPla than the main team? Tryon 3, the GMs, etc. (Well, most of them, except the triplets.)

At least the series had good GunPla.

Regarding next week.
Meh. Will watch, but it's probably going to be S3 tease along with Yuuma/Sakai shenanigans.

*shrugs*

I couldn't help but to laugh at the kid with the cup. Too obvious, great episode though

I said this would happen due to a certain crappy show being the main influence of this season, but I got tired of hating and being right hah

Episode 24

I loved and hated this battle. Decent action. Some shots were great, especially the final shot of the Burning and the second Winning Road. But the victory sort of feels empty. And the end of the fight felt rushed and I thought we were about to get another two-parter.

Wilfrid Kijima is such a bland character, Adou's wrist problem ended up being completely pointless, and for as much as Shia was hyped up she spends the majority of the battle playing decoy/shield/medic. Also why would there be a time limit on the final battle other than to have a reason to kitbash the three suits.

Next week looks like it could be interesting but make for a weird finale. And stop with the teases.

The biggest pile of shit in a series of shit.

What was the point of the wrist.

What was the point of Sekai.

What was the point to any of this unbelievably awful season.

Gunpla academy is shown to have great power and control over their gundamns and they lose to a team who, just like 3 months ago, couldn't beat Yuuma.

This show.

This was an ok season. I have problems with how they hyped the hell out of the Crossbone only for a weak showing but hey it's Gundam.

Looking forward to the next season though.

The second half's animation was awesome. I enjoyed this season, even if it was inferior to the first. Looking forward to the World Tournament.

I don't like it when Gundam devolves into just lines and effects slamming into each other. It's lazy animation and I'd much rather see the suits actually fighting each other.

Still it was enjoyable for what it was.

That Sei tease was mean

Now that you put it like this, there's a good chance to play with the trope, season 1 style. I don't know if they actually meant it like that.

Exactly my problem with the so-called fight at the end. Why bother spending time animating a fight when we can just draw lines running into each other? Oh and what if everybody's attacks were just lines, too?

Also is it just me or is Winning Beam practically useless despite how it looks? Has Fumina actually defeated ANY enemies with that attack?

Well, I don't blame the animators or the storyboard artists. This falls squarely on the shoulders of Sunrise. They need to provide a bigger budget, or a longer lead time for production or else we'll just get more of this.

Season one had both and as a result we never got crappy beam spam fights.

Well, that ended on a disappointing note, 2nd season just screamed cash-in through out, instead of love letter full of cameo fan service in the first season

I think this is the main problem with Try. It just needed a bit more pre-production time so things could run a bit more smoothly. A lot of stuff has come across as being tacked on afterthoughts, where in S1 storylines were built up enough throughout the series that they mattered when shit went down.

Really enjoyed that fight, the animation and choreograpy looked very nice and I thought it was overall just a fun way to end the tournament. lol'd at some of the over-the-topness of the final brawl (blowing up the fucking Earth). I also enjoyed seeing the return of the classic Gundam Wing colony-dissolving-in-burst-of-light effect!

Not sure why they brought up Adou's wrist problem since it had no bearing on the actual battle. I also thought it was a bit odd that they resolved the fight in the show's penultimate episode and are spending the finale on the Meijin Cup. Guess they'll be using that as a bridge to the next season.

Is the WT 1v1?

Given Fumina's remark about wanting to fight Shia one on one, I'd say that's a hint that the World Tournament will go back to 1v1 matches.

Jesus that final episode was godawful. Shia didn't do shit except support, so so much for her and Hoshino's battle. Yuuma just screamed and beam spammed until he finally blew himself up, while adou just shouted FANGU most of the time.

Wilfrid actually did something, sort of. He was probably the most interesting in this episode but even then his fight wasn't as good as he's shown in the past. Sekai was crap, dude learned the Burning Finger Sword to counter the lance bits. It lasted all of five seconds before he started getting bodied again. Then they fucking try to do the God Gundam God Finger sequence WITHOUT HIM FUCKING DOING THE GOD FINGER or the "this hand of mine..." line. Motherfucker basically ended shit with fiery build knuckle. Shit was ass, I'm mad, hope they get bodied to hell and back at the world's tournament but that isn't going to happen. Fuckin' Ewwma.

Booooooooooo/10.

Man....gimme Sei pls. Only thing that I can take from this season is that they'll bring back the characters I loved from the first and hopefully they'll wipe the Try Fighters clean.

Man, that fight was ASS. Loved seeing Adou and Shia suddenly piloting like complete idiots, loved Shia not doing shit, loved them all shooting their beams at nothing into the middle of the colony for no reason, loved Wilfred's lance bits doing literally nothing.
I like the big reveal being that they made all of the units use the same polycaps, something high grades already do out of the box, and the climax 1v1 being like three wide-shot clashes and then a tiger and pheonix, sure was gundam.

I want to get off Sunrise's wild ride.

If Kira is truly just, Gunpla Gakuen won't be in the world tourney and we will never ever see or hear from them again.

Anyway, as livid as I remain about all of this, Sekai and the Burning aren't things I'm too mad about.

Except for Sekai's entire presence kind of being a mystery. He just rolls into town one day, stuff is said about his master, we never meet master, and Sekai's backstory never goes anywhere. It'd be like if all the stuff about Sei's dad or Reiji's homeworld had never gone anywhere.

Yea there was definitely some bullshit in terms of the writing this season but this episode was:

-Extremely well animated. Adou and Yuuma's impact frames were fucking awesome.
-Music was on point.
-Strong emphasis on teamwork such as throwing weapons to each other or giving covering fire. First time in the national tournament that I felt both sides were actually acting as teams.
-Use of team tactics such as Adou firing into the colony once Yuuma gave his position away.
-Use of particle recharging. That way it makes the semi-finals just a little bit less bullshit.

Yes the Adou wrist thing was anticlimatic but that's infinitely better than Team Try winning due to Adou's wrist giving out. The biggest bullshit was Jun from last episode teaching Sekai that lancer counter move garbage. That said, it wasn't a winning move which is what I was afraid of.

Adou and Yuuma's finish was the best part of the episode by far.

I think enough has been said about the writing (insert rage rant or whatever) but at least the episode was elevated by some fun choreography. The final fight itself was an enjoyable beat em up.

Last episode was fucking awesome. Just everything cranked to 11. I kind of hate how forceful they are with the oh Gunpla battle is so great that kills any and all tension, but the fight was among one of the best in Gundam.

The victory itself was anticlimactic.

I really liked the episode. A few problems here and there but nothing that big.

Yuuma vs Adou was the best part of the episode overall as they really fought like it was a real gundam battle. The back and forth with trading real blows with each other was great and finishing Adou off like that after remembering what he couldn't do was great and it was animated well. I didn't need the name shouting though, lol.

I'm sort of on the fence with Shia and Fumina. In one respect they both served the proper functions on their team and did it well. Shia being the defense/mechanic and Fumina being the attack supporter was great for team tactics. On the other hand, I really wanted them to fight each other more. I had to laugh at their last animated scene though, lol.

Sekai vs Wilfrid was pretty standard but the last battle had good energy even though I wanted them to animate the gundams punching. I dug the effects though and lol @ blowing up the Earth.

I see the winner of the Gundam Breaker 2 contest in the next ep preview, oof.

The production values for this episode were the highest yet this season, and it makes a difference. I don't think it quite makes up for how anticlimactic some of these duels are, but the storyboards are energetic and lively. The fight between Yuuma and Adou, particularly when they got in close, is probably the best actual choreography that Try has shown to date.

It's too bad that the ultimate final duel devolves into a mess of jagged lines and spirit animals running into each other over and over. And it's really too bad that it comes at the end of all this sloppy writing that doesn't manage to satisfyingly build most of these characters or pay off any of its promised plotlines. But I kind of knew that going in.

Nothing they do in the last episode will get me back on board for this third season they're teasing.

Also doing a little side project in LBP3 using Build Fighter sprites for a kinda 2D SHMUP game. I'll post when I have some mechanics all set up. :)
Don't you mean PunchMUP?

So here's my rewrite for ep 24: Fumina just needed a bit more power, just to move a tiny bit. Her tears hit the control panel and lights up. SHE ASSIMILATED. THEN SHE GOT STABBED IN THE CHEST. She should have felt that and got hurt or tired and slept or whatever. Then the time limit, and as team captain, Fumina was the representative that was designated to fight. But since she assimilated she would be exhausted and pass the role to Seiji.

Sei grew out his hair and it's like his mom. It'd be funny if he's a crossdresser now and looks just like his mom. Also Sei is living in France just so he could join the world tournament in S3 allowing team try to be the Japan rep.

Everytime a crowd is watching on TV, it's a big top down view of the field/stadium. It'd be funny if TV viewers always had to watch the whole fight from that view. I guess they can easily see the tiny specks fighting with their 16k resolution TVs or whatever~
