Kojima was 'fired' by Konami, says Metal Gear Solid voice actress

I´m not worried about kojima´s future because he can work wherever he wants in the industry.
And i reeeally doubt that mgsv will end up being a half-assed game, especially when it´s his last MGS game.

it sure is going to be odd when MGSV releases and Kojima is not doing interviews or making appearances to promote the game...

yup, Kojima promotes his games so much and now he's suddenly stopped tweeting anything about it. It's pretty weird.

So much spin I'm dizzy. Kojima was let go from any official position in KONAMI and relegated to contractor status for the sake of finishing his last game. That is being fired. It's just not the dramatic "get the fuck out" type.

Yep, exactly what I said.

He is working on the game and is a contractor at Konami untill December.

Did people not realise this with the previous statements from Konami? It was pretty clear.

People realized and you said nothing different from what they knew. Being dismissed from the company and kept on as a contractor is being fired.

Kojima could single-handedly make Sony's Japan Studio relevant.

Just give him a seperate division called Kojima Studio and boom.

it sure is going to be odd when MGSV releases and Kojima is not doing interviews or making appearances to promote the game...

And even more awkward when MGS6 gets revealed.

Kojima has his 30 year anniversary with Konami next year. Konami don't want to pay out that pension plan.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Especially heartbreaking since they love their fans so much. :(

All of this "fuck you Konamiii!!!" going around.

None of you have any idea what he was actually sacked for yet. May be smarter to wait and see what actually happened (if ever) before y'all spin a "genius being bullied by soulless corporation" narrative.

He was fired and kept on as contractor to finish the game. Kojima wants to finish his last game before he leaves. That's how I'm reading all this. Anything else is spin to me.

So the question becomes, "Does Kojima start his own studio come December (KojiPro!) or does Sony, Capcom, Namco, Nintendo or even Microsoft attempt to hire him and actually get him?"

i'd agree if they weren't doing the whole petty name removal shit. they could have easily spun this as a "mutual parting of ways" and "the last MGS game from acclaimed director Hideo Kojima," etc etc etc. instead they handled it in the worst possible way.

Most people agreed with this notion up until Konami started expunging Kojima's name from everything. Personally, I couldn't care who is at fault. I think it's actually a good thing for Kojima to move on from Konami. He's expressed interest in not being involved in MGS for over a decade, and though I'll be disappointed in what that means for the series I think this will let Kojima begin something fresh and new.

i like the idea of him starting his own studio, but signing with a big publisher ala bungie, respawn

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Kojima wasn't the only person "let go". The Love Plus lot were shown the door, and its clear Konami were looking to downsize their games depo considerably. Occam's razor.

That's my stance. There's always two sides of a story like this. He could have been blowing budgets left and right or something. It's an interesting story so far but it's still incomplete.

I agree to an extent definitely, they shouldn't have started messing around with stuff that already exists.
For all we know (which is nothing), some real serious shit could have gone down. Let's paint a full picture before the stereotypical GAF righteous indignation kicks in is all.

Edit @PieAndBeans
Sorry, on my phone so I can't quote! But if it was just simply laying off staff and downsizing, I don't think Hideo Kojima's name would be scrubbed from all the boxes.

And at BadWolf below: (last edit!)
I never said anything about poor Konami so don't be daft. I'm just saying let's get an idea before we start jumping the gun.

Yeah, poor Konami.

Remember how well they handled Hudson?

Who's wife did he sleep with?

That was my first tnought.

Seemed like a fairly quiet guy and his games are usually in the black to my understanding so there must have been something going on behind the scenes.

I personally don't really care for his games but curious as to what happen.

Can't believe people are canceling pre orders over this. I guess they don't want to give Konami money but they're hurting Kojima in the process as well.

Far too late for that.

How is it spin?

Fired means the person is no longer there. Kojima and his team are still working on the game. He is a contractor untill december.

stripping away his brand, likely against kojima production's will is kind of a dick move as they made up of a huge chunk of Konami digital's profit with MGS IP alone. His job role changes is likely from the result of the restructure and the above events. That's basically the same effect as firing him, but not until after the release of MGS5 to me.

Of course it's just speculations, but I don't think it's that far from the truth.

Tomato-tomahto, man.

One thing I wonder about is if Konami has the rights to the "Kojima Productions" name. Maybe that's why they're taking down all refrence to the studio and Kojima himself, cuz he will be opening an independent Kojima Productions shindig.

What's really sad is the loss of the Fox Engine. No more 60fps games from Kojima this gen, I guess, if he actually releases any.

Has to be a very small vocal minority.

There is no way most of the big fans of the series (of which there are a ton) will be able to pass up on the last true MGS by KojiPro.

No one is saying Konami doesnt have blood on their hands. We are saying no one knows who is the devil in the pale moon light in this situation.

If Kojima were leaving alone then that would be another story but a good chunk of the key members from KojiPro leaving with him indicates to me that it wasn't over something petty or personal.

Yeah, all that work with this pretty cool engine and now it's back to square one. Sucks.
