Ultimate twist: The real, untold story of Hideo Kojima's departure is told in a series of cryptic Easter eggs inside MGSV. It will be the culmination of Kojima's 4th-wall skullfuckery.

Why do people keep saying this after thousands of post, and and 5 different threads....Its not true

Because they don't do anything with their other IP for the most part, and they definitely don't give the majority of projects the MGS level of care.

Kojima seemed to add quality to things he produced because he could probably talk them into loosening the purse-strings.

But it is silly, Konami have investments outside of gaming, so it's not like the company is going to die.

Oh man I hope she doesn't get into hot waters for "confirming" it or whatever. Japanese business people can be weird about that shit.

Huh, can you speculate on why this is the case? Is it just business culture, or something more decidedly so?

Why do you think people are not talking about the gaming industry? this is a gaming forum nobody cares about their health or casino machines shit.

Because thinking Konami as a business should bend to an employee in the video game side of business doesnt make sense from a Konami perspective.

He was talking about the gaming industry and I totally agree, Konami has not much left besides MGS. The Metal Gear IP is probably their biggest flagship.

This Kojima/Konami thing is just a ruse, you know Kojima is behind it all - it shall be his greatest troll masterpiece!!

Konami will have an E3 conference, midway through the lights go out, and Kojima's entrance music hits, pyro going off everywhere as he comes through a crowd going nuts cheering. He hits the stage and Scorpion Death Drops the President of Konami, JR is in the front row losing his f**king mind.

He announces that he is the President of Konami now, and for his first order of business.... *holds a decapitated Kiefer Sutherland head up in the air* while Hayter and Tak Fujii appear from backstage doing crotch chops.

Next he gave Hudson to Nintendo in return for Snake coming back to Smash Bros. as free DLC. And you can go play as him and TG16 games right now.

Just then a life sized Metal Gear Rex crashes through the side wall, as Kojima jumps into the cockpit in all the madness a guy shouts, Mr. President, what does this all mean for the game you're making, what does this mean for The Phantom Pain? Kojima with a coy look on his face replied: "The what now?" and flies away from a now confused audience.

Konami: Work on the next Metal Gear
Kojima: No, I want to work on something new

You know, this honestly wouldn't surprise me.

Seems to me Kojima has openly expressed other interests (possibly even a new Zone of Enders, as well as running with Silent Hill) and I could absolutely imagine Konami's daft upper-management cracking the whip with their "We need to be like Assassin's Creed and have a new MGS every year!" rhetoric.

I think we'll know eventually- especially with other individuals (like Burke), who seem fairly passionate about their respect for Kojima, starting to talk about it publicly. I doubt Burke will be the last one.

Maybe he got in a fracas with a producer.

Seriously though, I wonder why Konami would ever fire him. Either he did something truly awful behind the scenes, or the higher ups at Konami were deluded enough to think they don't need him anymore. A lot of people think there might have been a creative dispute over the continuation of Metal Gear, but Konami would be much better off with Kojima not making Metal Gear than not making anything at all.

Yup, they can be making billions elsewhere but if they are irrelevant in the gaming space then they are irrelevant to gamers and this forum.

He also said they should let him do what he wants. As I said from Konami perspective why should they, when video games is low on the list? Thats what I was commenting on

definitely. the more successful this game is, the more money and resources kojima will get thrown his way to do whatever he wants with.
Hasn't Kojima already been paid by Konami to make the game? If that's the case, the amount of copies sold won't change anything for him .

No way in HELL was I cancelling my pre-order. It's still a Kojima game. Konami will be officially dead to me afterwards, but this will be the easiest bitter pill I have to swallow this year. Fingers crossed for MGO3 footage at E3.

'donna burke'? 'rob crossley'? right! - just the people i go to when i wanna know what's really going on with kojima :) ...

this's all well past pathetic at this point. until we hear from kojima himself, i'm passing on this ever-more-depressing freak show...

I can understand Kojima leaving and Konami being salty but they actually had the bullocks to fire him?
WTF did he do?

Wonder whether we'll ever know exactly what happened. Konami seem all at sea. Letting Castlevania go the way it did was inexcusable to me. Someone will snap up Kojima very quickly you would think

I wonder if Kojima didn't want for any DLC shenanigans in the game but Konami forced its inclusion which caused friction betwene KojiPro and Konami?

This is my view on it too. Without him producing Silent Hills, I can't be excited for what Konami puts out anymore, and I love that series. But given their last attempts to farm out the series on the cheap, I just don't care enough.

with future opportunity as a game developer? come on now. if the game bombs he's not going to get $100 million to make a new game. if it's wildly successful there's a good chance he will

So nobody stopped to consider that Donna Burke just read the same stories we did and came to her own conclusion, which is how she actually makes it sound anyway?

And thats a real fucking shame. Just when I thought this series was going to get a proper revival...

This might be the most insane shadowy bullshit I've ever seen from a modern game company. The fact they seemingly GAGGED Kojima from posting on his PERSONAL TWITTER is mind blowingly crazy.

The dude wasn't just an employee, he was an executive! And not just an exuctive, he was HIDEO KOJIMA.

I am certainly not going to cancel my TPP preorder, this game will still be his and his teams magnum opus, but after that, Konami is dead. Long Live Kojima.

As I said before multiple times now which should also be highly obvious to those with any sort of cognitive thinking capability is that you do not do shit that will directly effect the company financials which this has seeing how the stocks started to drop since the whole mess first began.

Konami was basically dead already as far as console games went anyway. Metal Gear was basically an iron lung.

yeah it's not like she's an accomplished singer or anything

oh, she is a singer?
okay, then I belive that she has inside to what happened at Konami.

I would love to see an hypothetical situation were Nintendo hires him, I know it is a long shot but GAF would go nuts

Oh for sure. I think the last Konami game I bought that was new and not related to MGS in any way was Lords of Shadow. But, my meaning is, after TPP, its over. There is nothing else they can do. Everyone will be gone.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Yeah, people that have worked with KojiPro a lot in the past decade and most certainly would be friends with all those involved wouldn't know whats going on more intimately than some of the ostriches here on NeoGAF.

I wonder if people understand how the real world actually works sometimes in these sorts of threads. Yes, she's just a singer who lives in Singer Land and doesn't phase over into our dimension ever at all so how COULD she know anything?!

I don't agree with how this whole thing has been handled publically, but I just can't go after Konami or Kojima on this without knowing the full story. They may have had a very good reason to let Kojima and company go, but as of now we have no idea.

That doesn't mean what they did removing his names, etc. from games (now putting them back I guess?) as a good thing, just stating.

That tweet is likely the biggest PR fail i've seen in my life: it didnt' just confirm that he was fired, but does so in the most corporate spiteful way it could short of just ending it with "also: fuck you, kojima and your damn fans". Well, gotta give it to Konami: coherently pathetic to the bitter end.

Eh i dont know, im still thinking its an Alan Smithee thing. Konami said no and Kojima decided to leave and take his name off the game. There's no way they fired him, he keeps them employed and his name literally prints money
No he doesn't, and no you don't know that. KojiPro are more than likely a huge expense. Konami isn't just AAA gaming right now. They make a lot of money in different areas. More money than they're making from AAA gaming, Kojima or not.

Wouldn't cancelling your pre-order be an "FU" to Kojima as well as Konami? In spite of what looks to be some serious internal politics, it's still his creation. I doubt the cancellations will hurt sales in a significant way, but if sales come up short, it only justifies Konami's business actions.

Kojima should just pack his bags for America. There has to be a shitload of studios/publishers welcoming him and the KojiPro team with open arms.
