Received the hardware bundle yesterday from amazon but found out the TV doesn't have HDMI here, so had to buy an AV cable lol. Finally got everything set up!

This is how I will play the entire game, lol.

Only played the introduction bit so far but I am already LOVING it. I'm so glad I did a media blackout with this game. The music, world, creatures - everything is new to me and I'm blown away by how beautiful and grand Mira is!

I have one quick question for those who have already put some time in the game: when exactly do you get access to the feature that lets you change your character's appearance? I'm okay with how my character turned out but the eyes creep me out and I want to change that. I'm still early in the game so I can restart, but maybe the chara editor is unlocked from the start and I should just continue playing?

Once I've put some more time into the game I'll post more impressions. But I can already tell this game is gonna be amazing <3

Nice! Looks like you can turn off pretty much everything, which makes my IR-happy TV relieved. Now the question is, how much of that can you access via the GamePad screen instead?

This has probably already been asked but does this have achievements like the Wii game?

Yes.

Guys so how's the game? I haven't played the original wii version yet but was able to get one for a good price from a nice fellow gaffer.

Some impressions are linked in the OP.

Currently clocked at 39 hours 37 minutes. Not sure how long the game is but I'd be surprised if I was anywhere near the end.

But there is no end. :D

Based online^^

You unlock that after finishing the main story. Or alternatively if you buy any of the character DLC packs coming out next week.

edit: ^had a brain fart there and mixed that up with the Fashion Equipment feature. What your asking for unlocks around chapter 5-6 (I think that's also the time when you get your first Doll).

No, that's another feature. Changing character appearance altogether is possible after quests with a certain NPC; I have it unlocked myself.

I think maybe after chapter
5 or 6
is when it's available.

So is this game more Monster Hunter-like in terms of progression being judged primarily through sidequests and exploration rather than story? Would be a pretty big disappointment for me, as I really enjoyed the structure of the original Xenoblade.

The interesting quests were annoying because of how you had to keep track of peoples movements and times of the day

I enjoyed those since it made the gameworld itself seem more alive and the NPCs were not just signposts waiting for you to interact with them. They had their own schedule and things to do. I was amazed when I realized and saw that every npc had their own "house" that they would go to to sleep.

It's the same concept of the quests in Majora's Mask, in that you had to familiarize yourself with the gameworld and npc themselves to be able to complete everything. Until they took some of that aspect away with the rerelease. Kinda hope the "navball" thing doesn't ruin the feels from getting to know everything yourself that the first game had.

Unlike Xenoblade, where the characters were essentially on a journey constantly moving through the world from place to place, Xenoblade X' story has the characters stay in one place and venture out when they need to, so separating the story into chapters seems like a natural choice for me.

It also lets them halt progression without putting up invisible walls everywhere and telling you "you can't go there yet" (once the initial opening section is completed you can go absolutely anywhere anytime, so story missions can have requirements like current level, or they'll need certain quests to be finished, etc).

I haven't had any problem with it since the structures just suited to the game world.

Well, got the Doll License. Disappointing that all of the frames are level 30...but that's only four levels away, at least. I colored my free Urban pink, to celebrate Lyn, and named it Keith.

Named the Lailah I bought for later Moonlight, because why not.

Also, it looks like the Conquest stuff hit max, and that World Enemy from the Doll/Network video is up. Tried it, died immediately. Level 60, so I don't doubt anyone that isn't totally maxed out could take it on. It's around for the next week or so though. I think.

Conquest stuff? Can someone elaborate?

It's a meter that increases when people do Squad Missions/Quests and stuff like that, pretty sure it counts the whole playerbase, globally. When it hits max, a World Enemy appears that anyone can fight. I think it has a global HP bar or something, and each time a team kills it it decreases a bit.

That reminds me of Dragon's Dogma and the Ur-Dragon!

Gotcha! Thanks both.
I'll just restart then :).

I had a question for people who have spoiled themselves on the story, but I'm afraid to go into the spoilers thread in case people are posting pictures or unmarked spoilers. The question I have isn't really a huge spoiler question anyways since I JUST want a "yes" or "no" response (no details).

In the first trailer for the game, at the end, there was a character shown who looked similar to Shulk. Is this character actually in the game as part of the story or was that just them showing off the character facial designs early? Or maybe he was the main character before they switched over to a player created character as the protag.

Again, just a simple yes or no will suffice if anyone knows. :)

No, he is not

No, he is not

Ah okay, a little bit weird
as I totally expected that character to be important in the story based on that trailer. If not just because he was the first character shown. But like I said, maybe he *was* the main character, but they switched to the player created character.

Thanks!

They should give us an English demo! That would really help with the wait. Just give use the first zone or something.

It just doesn't work like that. Plus it would be extremely counter-productive to section off the "first area" in a hypothetical demo in a game that is fully explorable from the first moment you start playing.

Okay, then how about a trial? Like the full game, but it ends after lets say a couple hours and give it like 2 uses.

Any impressions of the multiplayer yet? Is there enough there to go full-in on multiplayer once the story is finished?

The 4 player squad quests/missions look interesting, but just not sure how much is there yet.

Well, congrats NintendoGAF. Thanks to you and your XenoGifs I am now actually contemplating buying a WiiU eventually... (but couldn't possibly justify it for one game for me, so it'll probably have to wait until sometime after Zelda U is out).

Hope you're happy now. Haven't owned a Nintendo anything since the N64 :shakefist:
(even if it's only an intention to buy atm hehe)

It isn't. When you start the game you can't leave the first continent. I think it was right after chapter 2 that I could change the party and go anywhere.

It really is but it necessitated a guide due to the volume and how they are all scattered/schedule changes after you're blocked from going back to upper mechonis.

They're handled much better in Xenoblade X

No he was not. The online was already implemented by then. Its just the MC they've been using in promotional material with a different hairstyle

It's supposed to be something you're doing inbetween the main story stuff. This squad missions are active all the time and you can contribute to them at any point. It's not something you need to save for later or whatever.

Well... good news! You don't have to justify it for one game because Wii U plays Wii games and between those two consoles you've already missed out on a ton of amazing titles you can catch back up on; including THREE Zelda games!

Purchasing the Wii U - even for just 1 game - would perhaps allow one to pay closer attention to the number of quality games - some of the best in their respective genres! - that are available for the console right now. It happens... "I came for a slice, but I ate the cake!"

Well, quite frankly, I generally am not relly interested in the Nintendo IPs/ typical game genras... Or so it seemed :)

I am generally not into platformers (never really liked any of the Mario games or Ghouls & Goblins per example, in spite of trying numerous times at friends), I don't really like fighters (be it Smash Bros types or Street Fighter among others) or racers generally (the one exception having been the futuristic WipEout style on occasion) or the Twitch hack & Slash (dmC style).
I'm really more of a RPG (both MMO and traditional single player)/ Action - Adventure/ Space Sim / Stealth/ RTS/ Survival Horror person really - with the odd shooter be it TPS or FPS (not that big into it, depends on setting/ story really), or also exploration/ puzzle.

In fact, there were only 3 games that made me buy a N64 back in the days: Zelda OoC, Goldeneye and Pilotwings (which I ended up not even playing due to an A*-H* swapping the game inside the pack for an Atari something game, and that was a brand new game bought in a big retail store).

But between what I've seen of Zelda and now Xenoblade X... I am going to give this some serious thoughts I think. :)

Oh, I had no idea this game was actually out in Japan. Looks really good, shoutout to those who imported and are sharing vids/gifs/pics, I appreciate that. Really looking forward to the NA release.
