Rare to announce new game at E3

This is a Rare thread alright...

Rare's output pre-Xbox is amazing while all the games they made afterwards are shit!
Rare's output pre-Xbox is so overrated!
Rare doesn't have stuff from the N64 days so they can't make a good game nowadays. It's just not possible!

Am i missing something?

I must be really weird because I love Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong Country 2 and at the same time I really like Nuts & Bolts, Viva Pinata and Kameo. Something must be wrong with me I guess because apparently it's not possible to like Rare's games in general...I have to choose a side!

Ultimate Play The Game were always better Rare anyway.

Is there even anyone there from Ultimate still at Rare?

Kameo was a good game and underrated. As a new owner to 720p it also was a graphical show piece on my tv. Some of those textures hold up today I'm sure.

Bring on a new Rare IP!

Rare today under Phil is different from Mattrick, it's a clean slate for them , Greg Mayles unlike the playtonic guys is a big name for game design, hes a pedigree vet. Also a lot of playtonic talent are made up of guys that have worked on Kinect Sports. You need to be consistent with your critism, if your applying it to one it applies to the other.

It would be funny if it was Battletoads since it would bomb really hard as it barely has a fanbase. But they can't be that stupid right?

If its Battletoads, I hope its a project handed to a smaller Indie. Would rather see Rare do something a bit more ambitious. Would love to see the rebirth of Banjo or a fresh new IP/

I hope it's a new IP. A new era of Rare. Many of the key developers, including the composers, are with Playtonic now. Let them do the Banjo-Kazooies.

To be honest I could easily see Yacht Club Games, doing the actual game with some Rare artists helping to produce the quantity of pixel art to have it ready for Q3

I would love a new B&K with the same gameplay as the first two. But with next gen graphics and a lot of collectibles, hidden areas and huge environments with lots to do. Think super Mario 3D world.

Thinking more about what Rare has done... anyone surprised we've never seen a followup to Jet Force Gemini? Considering Microsoft has always been very 'shooter' centric for its console its rather surprising they have such a unique shooter title in the line up for IP's that Rare has and done absolutely nothing with it.

If it is banjo, imagine that competition with yukaa laylee. Conquer would be hard to sell off the writing and satire is not done right. Battletoads might be it

I know its not happening yet but I'd looooove Perfect Dark 2 as a more stealth oriented shooter in the style of the Samaritan demo.

Eh.. Fuck it, hype. I still believe in Rare. The only game they put out last gen that I wasn't crazy about was PD.

Man i hate to say this because Rare used to be my favorite developer but i'll never forgive them for practically ruining the Perfect Dark franchise with PD 0. But hey who knows perhaps they'll make a killer comeback move. Imagine how great it would be if they reach classic RareWare quality again. Did Microsoft invest in new talent recently?

I know they've said they are moving away from Kinect, but I'll believe it when I see it by this point.

Likely a new traditional Banjo game or a Battletoads sequel, given the hints dropped over the past few months.

They've been hiring a lot recently that I can see, filling permanent and contract positions (well, they've taken the job listings down, presumably because they've been filled).

The thing about not being a kinect game is the most believable thing. Considering how much Microsoft is separating itself from that thing, almost as if they don't want to acknowledge it anymore.

Id love a spiritual successor to Diddy Kong Racing though, just replace the DK characters with more Rareware cameos.
