As an aside, type "Splatoon" into a google image search and you find some quite unsavory "fan art" without too much effort. Kinda disgusted, although certainly not surprised.

To be fair. That goes for a lot of Game franchises.
Not as fast and as throughly as Splatoon though. That announcement hit r34 circles like a bomb. The combination of squids, "human" character design and the fact that the characters are constantly depicted with a...liquid...on their face has inspired a lot of people. Not to mention that many r34 artists seem to be Nintendo fans in general...

In the Nintendo Minute video, they remind people that any character or thing from Splatoon works as a source of inspiration. I hope people make cool art of Annie, Judd, Jelonzo, and the zapfish. They're my current favorites. One of these days, I will use a contest like this as motivation for improving and practicing my art skills.

How come a drawing as innocent and adorable as that can be construed as "creepy" or "flag-raising"?
The line of thought that you two crossed through in-between seeing that art with your eyes and the conclusion that that drawing was sexually motivated in a bad way must have been really, and I do mean really bizarre. Most probably even way creepier than the amount of creepiness you two thought that picture contained.

Jesus do you think every character in a school girl outfit is creepy? So many times any discussion around anime-looking game goes down this route because Americans can't wrap their heads around the idea that mini-skirt does not always = attempting to be sexy. She's wearing that outfit because that is literally the exact same outfit that 99% of girls wear from age 16-18 in Japan.
Righhhttt. If you look at her pose it's pretty damn obvious it's supposed to be sexy. Which is even more disturbing if you are right, 16 year old girl and all.

I could not love this more. I Amazing what Chipotle did with the colors, and the longer limbs just work really well with the characters design. A+ work.
