Damn, I wonder why.

my only guess is that they didn't want friends to team up again randoms. Could be some abuse. if let's say a guy joins three of his friends and is the only one put in the team against them, he could undermine his team on purpose to let them win.

It sucks, splat zones would be a lot of fun with gaffers ;(
I hope we get this mode as a classic mode sometime

I didn't get a chance to try splat zones yet with the late EST release, but I did finally play some of the single player. It is pretty good. I'm through the first two stages of the second zone-- so five stages and a boss down and found all the scrolls so far.

Just read something about a Spyke + Judd glitch (maybe it's not even a glitch) on reddit: Basically you need to win a few matches be on fire (+9) so Judd gives you 1.400 coins. Before you talk to him, pay Spyke for a equipment slot. Then go talk to Judd. He gives you 1.400 coins but also restores the 30k you paid Spyke before.

Can somebody test it? I'll try it later.

all of these problems have been solved years ago. literally copy how dota 2 handles stacks in matchmaking and you're golden

This is definitely going to get patched before I hit 20.

So...I suck at splat zones in ranked mode. I generally have the highest or next highest score in regular battles, but I play a very evasive, paint everything in sight, create good paths for my team mode with occasional kills. In splat zones, my weapons of choice, the roller and MG, just aren't as effective. :( I'm kinda bummed.

Okay, I am a Splat Zones Blaster believer. I thought it would just wreck in Turf War only.
I came across my first blaster last night. It was nasty. Chargers ain't shit, I eat them for breakfast. This blaster was a serious pain in the ass.

I'm going to give it a try later.

what's even worse is when you have the squid sitting here and the inkling girl on the way but can't justify opening them due to the massive loss of value

That happened to me once, didn't notice it was because of that. I got 60k back that way apparently.
Once you play ranked, money isn't an issue at all though.

I'm really not feeling splat zones. To use the daft Eurogamer analogy of the game being a MOBA. Splat zones totally is a MOBA in that the mentality becomes anything less than victory is a complete waste of time. Which is not healthy. The games own feedback reinforces this as well.

Heck the victories themselves don't seem to reward much more than turf wars (1500 is highest I've seem though I've heard others getting 2000, I've heard members here getting those kind of numbers from turf wars) but the potential of losing and getting absolutely fuck all is a reality. It really goes against the ethos turf wars showed in that even a loss can be very rewarding as taking part counts (I've gotten over 1000 from losses before there, even my worse less is a lot more than 0).

Oh but if you managed to not get completely wiped out you'll still get a small morsel of points for losing. Thanks it is still way less than what you get from turf wars.

Finally, it makes the news reel twice as long because it has a unique pool of stages. A positive point is it means your favorite stage is likely to playable in one mode.

Some counter thoughts to this might be:
"But you don't need points you must be level 20 now" Actually I'm not level 20 and if I was I still need money, I've not purchased like 75% of the weapons because I barely scrape by enough to buy all the clothes each day. The cost of clothes will go down as I own more of them but the weapons remain so I still have to think of the game in terms of G/min and splat zones comes off the loser here.
"Git good" Cool story bro. There is little I can do about some of the lag related problems where are just as prevalent in this mode (the ink refusing to go on the floor lag spike or desync can be lethal if it gives the opposition extra control of the zones, especially as the timer reaches zero).

So any suggestions for improvements? Well for one flipping the pool of 500, win is 1000 around would help a little as it would make losses twice as rewarding (still less than turf wars mind you). Secondly, make it harder to get completely wiped out. Perhaps better placement of the zones as the stages I've played either have one zone or two zones so close together a vantage point covers both.

Just read something about a Spyke + Judd glitch (maybe it's not even a glitch) on reddit: Basically you need to win a few matches be on fire (+9) so Judd gives you 1.400 coins. Wonder if it also works on receiving orders. Can't test it today though (I already bought one).

None of them are particularly mind-blowing, but as Ranked is now live, here are the Splat Zone locations from each map that is included in the Prima Guide.

Alternatively, if anyone wants anything specific posted from the Prima Guide, just let me know and I'll post it on here.

Get big roller and splat people from afar, it has a long range. But you might try different weapons too.

the bonus scales with your rank, i believe at c+ i was getting +2300

Love the zapper and love splat zones. Pretty sure I like splat zones better than turf war.

Always hilarious when you get paired up with someone who doesn't know how to play yet, and you see them painting the far corners of the map while everyone is battling.

I personally like the random teams and no chat. I like that it's a more casual game where other shooters mostly suck if you don't want to play with a team.

That said, I'm not opposed to those things being added. Just either make that a seperate lobby or add all game types into regular battle mode and keep that random with rotating teams each match and no chat for us casuals.

Weird.

I expected Saltspray to be one of the stages to have more than just one zone to cap. So Blackbelly is the only one with two zones so far?

They should all have multiple zones, IMO. Or at least zones that move about. It just turns into a camp-fest otherwise. Which is, frankly, dull.

I really wish they had a roadmap for when new content will be released...

although I am happy we got a new map and weapon, was only expecting ranked mode..

Disappointed that Splatoon isn't really fresh after all

lol at all the comments shitting on Splatoon saying it ripped this random alpha game off, lol ok

The fact that this game didn't come out kind of vindicates, at least to me, Miyamoto's original skepticism about the game. The prototype was there from the start but as the Iwata Asks implied, not a lot of people actually believed in it until the Squid concept took shape. The fun of Splatoon is just as much about the inking as it is the mobility and advantages associated with that ink. It's rewarding both in terms of mechanics and goals.

100% agree. There's chaos, then there's Splat Zone. It's really just not enjoyable.

Turf War needs to be in ranked, dammit.

Indeed, I don't think the mechanics of painting is enough to make the game interesting on it's own. It's everything else around it that makes Splatoon so special, such as the character design, world, humour and creativity that a crappy Xbox avatar game like that just doesn't do justice. (I don't think it would work for Mii's either)
