I'd buy an Xbox One for a Nuts and Bolts sequel, but we're gonna get some Battletoads thing instead.
Who would buy a banjo game on the xbone? That IP is a miscast for the gears/halo audience and they already tried with the last banjo game. Its either battletoads or new IP.
God I hope your wrong, Rare needs to prove it can deliver its classics updated for today's audience. Also as it is the 30th Anniversary of Rare a nice heartfelt project to show its fans they know they still have the chops, redo the asserts for BK + BT and reuse them in a Banjo-Threeie.
New IP doesn't make much sense as they haven't used Rare's Library of IP.
A new, retail Banjo game would not be commercially viable. If they do anything at all with the IP I think it will be a remaster or a downloadable title. Or maybe something with Project Spark like they did for Conker.
They can do new IP and use their older IPs in a way that are actually sustainable for them to keep making them.
A new Banjo would be more viable than something like Sunset Overdrive.
Banjo-Kazooie sold more than 2.2 million and Banjo Tooie sold 3 million. A proper Banjo Threeie could pull substantial numbers.
Those games were nearly 20 years ago, in a very different environment. It would be a lot to expect multi-million sales from a new game in the series.
I think you would be hard-pressed to think of the last fully-priced 3D platformer than performed really well commercially without Mario/Sonic. Hell even the performance of Sonic games varies pretty widely.
Ratchet/Sly/Jak and Daxter ... but Microsoft would have to market it ...
So most likely a new IP, but Kamp(if we still believe) was dead set and pushing Banjo.. idk..
Battletoads will be a small game, I don't see how you make it into a big budget AAA game.

That would require them to actually make retail games though using that IP which they can't/won't.

Simon Woodroffe is the creative director, the studio head is Craig Duncan, they worked together at Midway

C'mon guys, it's obviously not a Kinect game!
Chances of being a game for hololens however, can be high.
I and many others would. I had an n64 because of rare and I got an Xbox 360 on launch (picked up kameo) because of them too.
Nuts and bolts was not good for banjo though. I wanted to go on adventure with banjo and kazooie but instead I had to create vehicles and then see how good they drove.
Xbox doesn't need to be just a shooter box. I thought they'd want all types of games. If it is so set on being a shooter box though I wouldn't mind seeing a new jet force Gemini or perfect dark though, but change perfect dark to third person so we can see Joanna rather than it being another fps.

Why retail? As I've said they're using Unity for at least one thing possibly more, would make much more sense to use that for projects smaller in scope, downloadable games than it would be to use all those IPs in AAA retail games.
I largely think except for probably Perfect Dark and Kameo a lot of their games wouldn't do so well in that retail space and they could, should and seemingly are exploring other avenues for these things.
There are multiple ways to deliver a game to your user base these days, retail is only one of them.
They did that over 10 years ago on a completely different platform set. I really do not see either of the claims of substantial numbers or more viable than something like SO being true.
No, they did not. They did, however, do the far superior Viva Pinata. Some of the company's best work that I feel is severely underrated!
Their main project will most likely recieve a retail release unless it is a "Games as a service" game like Fable Legends. And even then it'll probably get a retail release eventually. In my humble opinion if Phil Spencer wants to show faith to the the Rare brand, they need to have retail releases - everything is available to download - if State of Decay can get a retail release, Banjo franchise can as well. Plus Banjo can be that AAA platforming franchise to diversify the brand. Remember the humour in nearly all of Rares games were that double entendres. Not aimed at Children.
oh, my bad, thought it was rare who did that.
they were heavily involved in all those casual moves.... forced by ms.

Twisted Pixel probably doing Battletoads game. Rare doing some AAA budget game.

So maybe Microsoft needs to bring together guys like Gregg Mayles, Robin Beanland, Nick Burton and other Rare veterans on stage :
"Hi, I'm Gregg Mayles, Game Designer for Rare since 1989 and I worked on project such as Donkey Kong Country series, Conker, Banjo Kazooie or Viva Pinata"
"If we are on stage it's because we wanted to show you this .... THIS is the new game from Rare"

[Internet explodes]
I would like Perfect Dark to be a mas up of Mirror's Edge and Deus Ex. Just think a darker Mirror's Edge where the goal is to infiltrate, rather than run all the time, and you have gadgets, rappelling gear and such. Instead of just being an FPS, it would be a way more interactive and dynamic first person experience, like Mirror's Edge. They could even use some of Shangheist's assets, perhaps even making a game about heists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXsJdTJQIFA. Joanna Dark is already a cool, female character. They could keep the game colorful, while keeping it dark(lol). Like a dark version of Mirror's Edge, where you are the predator and not the prey. Like Deus Ex, it could have a progression system, and give you some freedom of approach. I mean, imagine that it is a well equipped Joanna Dark sitting there, it's nighttime, the citylights, and you're scouting for a way into a building and tell me you don't feel something!
I'm stunned there are still people there from the SNES days
Having Gregg on stage to introduce the new game (and himself) to the world would be really great. Microsoft does this with every developer, so why not with Rare? It'd be fantastic. But just Gregg, there's no need to have Beano, Burton or anyone else. That would come off as a lame attempt to rub on people's faces that there are still several veterans there. Just show that the director of the current game, who happens to be probably the greatest creator Rare has ever had, is still there, and that will be enough.

E3 next week! Looking forward to seeing @TheRealBeano @Ghoulyboy and @Espio1
I would totally buy this ! Last year, at E3, I had a heart attack because I didn't recognize Crackdown logo I thought it was a new Perfect Dark at first glance !
I hope Rare is working on a new colorful adventure game (because Xbox needs one) but a new Perfect Dark in 2017 or 2018 would be great
Dude, it surely won't sell very well, but you have to make these games now and then as a fan service.Who would buy a banjo game on the xbone? That IP is a miscast for the gears/halo audience and they already tried with the last banjo game. Its either battletoads or new IP.
Yep, I think everybody knows this already. It's probably Battletoads.
Just a hunch, but I'm pretty sure of it for some reason.
The Gears/Halo arguement is bullshit anyway. Franchises like Minecraft, Lego and Skylanders are doing well on Xbox platforms.Dude, it surely won't sell very well, but you have to make these games now and then as a fan service.
See PlayStation -> A lot of the PS fans want Sony to acquire the Crash IP. Does it make much sense business-wise? Maybe not really. Does it make sense as a fan service to show your loyal fanbase that you care about them? Yes!
So of course some Xbox fans want new games of some old MS IPs.
And yes, it makes sense to make them every now and then.
Simon confirmed that it's not a Kinect game btw.
You're saying that as if none of the devs at Rare have worked on a non-kinect game before. So it's a non-kinect game being made by a kinect studio that is not the Rare lauded from the Nintendo era.
Please be excited.
