Seeing Tifa do blitz attacks on my PS4 is going to end me

I can see boosting sales if they play their cards right. Of course, they need to finish this game during this decade and leave the Fan Fic level side games and retcons aside.

If SE are banking on nostalgia then good luck to them.
Japanese FF7 fans will be what? 30 something salarymen now.
They'll be too burned out from work to even care about sinking 60+ hours into a remake of a game they played over a decade ago.
Console gaming in Japan is on a downward spiral and I can't see that changing.

So here's a question:

Which would have made GAF happier? FF7HD or FF12HD?

The former, without doubt.

FFVII ticks all the nostalgia boxes and is a game from lots of peoples' childhoods. Its been teased in the form of tech demos over the last decade, and the constant rumours of a potential remake gave some gamers a literal cathartic rush upon its announcement.

FFXII HD would be received well, but such reception would be dwarfed by that of FFVII remake.

all we need is confirmation that a dub will be available for the original English translation and all will be well.

it would be great and you all know it.

I really think people are making a big deal of the crossdressing sequence. Bet it wont even be talked about much upon release
It's a sequence I regularly forget even existed until topics of a FFVII remake pop up, and people decide to harp on it. The way a lot of folks talk about it, you'd think the game peaked in that pimp's bed room.

I hope the ending sequence doesn't suck this time.

The ending sequence was perfect. Open to interpretation. Did humanity return to the lifestream or not? It was beautiful too.

Giving this the title of FF7HD is not doing it justice. This is a remake, not an up sampling / remaster that deserves HD subtitle.

True. FF12 HD seemed the more likely choice, so we wouldn't have had the same reaction. It would have been "Oh neat, very cool."

But, as we've seen, that FF7 remake reaction was amazing :)

I don't sink time into games a lot of the time, I just buy them. FF7 will likely be no exception.

It's pretty nuts that SE is just outright saying that they need this to save Japan.

Well I mean jrpgs aren't really that interesting to the general public. I feel that SE really screwed up the FF brand with FF13. This announcement, as well as many others have rejuvenated many gamers interest in the companies games and it is true that FF7 is at the front of it all. If they can pull off the remake without pissing off people, then goodwill will continue to shine on the company and future games. There is a lot of pressure on them to get this game right though.

FF XII is crap. Glad they decided not to remaster/remake it, unless they planned to fix the shitty battle system.

Can't wait to see the delicious sight of Cloud in a dress in glorious HD? "Please look forward to it," said Nomura as the interview came to a close.

Am I taking crazy pills? This reads very awkwardly. Not Nomura's comment, but whether or not he was actually asked that question.

The way it is written makes it sound like the author is asking the reader, and then they quote Nomura's last remark in the interview. Can we confirm that he was asked that question and that was his response?

I just find that very... oddly phrased.

FFXII remaster would be like the FFX remaster, not a huge scale project but actually easy money. I think it's happening and coming out much sooner than the FFVII remake which is late 2017 at best.

Who said they're not? E3 isn't exactly the only place that major Japanese companies like to show off their games and they already left people with enough announcements to last a while.
I will agree on 12 being crap though, at least with story and characters.

So SE think an FF7 remake will save home console gaming in Japan?
I don't see it happening.

They don't expect the remake on its own to "save" the PS4. They're just trying to put together a lineup that could help it

Star Ocean V
Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
The World of Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts 3
Dragon Quest Heroes
Dragon Quest Heroes 2
Nier

This can also potentially show other publishers/developers that they should have confidence in the system as well and start to release major properties for it. Whether or not it works remains to be seen. But there's no doubt that Square is putting all their weight into trying to make it work. And that's all anyone can really ask of them.
