Can you imagine having this on your resume? Probably don't need it but like "I voiced the narration of the FF7R reveal!" He would be set for life doing voice acting work. Unless he already is doing voice acting.

Its the guy who voices kenpachi from bleach, he's got lots of voice acting roles (also grigori from dragon's dogma, jiraiya from naruto, some guy from ninja scrolls and a ton of other roles)

I wonder how long sony's ps4 will remain their main console after learning about the FFVII remake. It's obviously gonna take a long time for the game to be done and released and the ps4 has been out for already a year and a half so I'm wondering if the ps4 is gonna have a long life cycle like the ps3 did....

The issue with action RPG is the other party members just become dumb AI bots.

So it then becomes a Cloud game.

This is a big problem and one of the perks of turn based.

Turn based doesn't need to be boring, You can experiment with new forms of ATB.

Maybe add combo systems, timing for presses, etc

This.

I don't understand how anyone who loved and played FF7 in the past would prefer real time battles in FF7R.
It would dump down the gameplay immensely. You go from directly controlling the whole team to controlling a single character. You go from strategic commander to foot soldier.
ATB is more like a chess game with time limits while real time battles feel more like an action game to me.

This is for the fans. If anything, make it more complex. Please don't dumb this down Square.

So, on a scale from THEY BETTER NOT FUCKING DARE to OMFG, PUT IT IN MY VEINS, how likely do you think it is that there will actually be a way to revive Aeris Aerith in the FF VII Remake?

This is why I want it to be turn based. Controlling the other characters in the battle is very important for me.

I think they can work on a free roam and turn based combat. Something like Final Fantasy XII, but without the Gambit system.

Holy shit dude, this is amazing. It really takes me back to all those terrible colors schemes and broken links because you don't really know what the fuck you're doing.

Ah man, makes me think of all the time I used to spend on alt.games.final-fantasy back when VII came out.

Haha yep. This is the first and only website I ever made (because FF7 was awesome) and I can't believe it hasn't been deleted.

Exactly. Think of games like Xenogears as examples of interesting combo systems. Or Sabin in FF6.

Eternal Sonata had an unusual mix of turn based and action too.

I get the feeling there are ways to keep controlling all party members without boring people too much.

Maybe they'll expand on the scene with her ghost in the flower garden. Maybe even leave some kind of "fragment" of her that makes her playable again, but not as an actual character with lines or anything. You know, just as a sidequest so you can have an overpowered healer and get to use her level 4 limit break for more than an hour.

It might be, though it might cause a time paradox in advent children and Dirge of cerberus.

Now that the remake is happening... I actually kind of like that we're getting an up-resed PC version on PS4. It would be nice to have the original version as nice as it can possibly look on PS4.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Listening to the OST... goosebumps on every song...

When I re-listened the OST before the announcement, I got depressed - thinking that I'd never play a remake for this game

Now I'm re-listening to the OST and I'm just smiling...

Just smiling, folks...

What I love about the OST is that so much of the town and environment music is incredibly sweetly, nostalgically sad. This is not a boisterous adventure... it's incredibly melancholy.

I guess it's that Evangelion influence... the spectacle of mid-90s Japanese entertainment wasn't just going for "cool"... it was going for bittersweet introspective emotion amongst the ashes of the spectacle. And I think that's part of the secret sauce of what makes VII so great. If it were just going for a so-cool adventure, it wouldn't have this strange pull over our hearts...

So, it's not going to be FFXIII/X hallway style, right? I mean, in a game mechanic kind of way, it just can't, it would ruin a lot of how the areas work. I hope so. That it isn't, I mean.

I hope they do the music right I. This game. I hope t still maintains some of its MIDI feel to it and isn't totally modern versions of the originals.

In a way, much of the interiors of VII were just hallways. Think of most of the pathways through Midgar or, say, the path from Costa del Sol to Corel. It definitely opens up on the world map, but even then, you're still mostly bottlenecked by having one or two caves to go through.

That said, they haven't said anything about it. Actually, I think they'd be shy to do a X or XIII environment ever again, based on how it was received the last time.

Cloud, Tifa and Barrett crew checking in!

Ayo!

I'm honestly not sure what I want from a gameplay perspective for the remake. On one hand, it would be cool for it to play as an action RPG, but as one poster said, that just means the teammates become dumb AI. On the other hand, I do really like the ATB in the original, and I think if they sped it up a bit, and tweaked it a bit, it could be fantastic.

Ok let's break it down.

Subways will probably be important:

If this were an actual Hollywood movie, the guy behind the glass here on the left is the one to watch:

Daytime Midgar is splendid and busy and beeeeautiful:
Note street sign: Center Gate 6 | Kalm 51 | Junon 133

You can see those mileages again here, along with a big ad for Valentina (maybe a nod to Valentine?):
Note the same old-timey cars from the original

Here's a playground in a polluted Midgar hell:
Again note the subway/train.

Here are kids playing swords and look at that! Buster Swords must be a common design.

Raining in Midgar slums:

Here's clearly CLEARLY the biggest design change so far -- (I'm assuming Shinra soldiers):
A dumb thing to note, but beards were way out of style back in 1997.

Maaaaaan, I've watched this a dozen times and can't decide if that's a reflection of a statue or of Aeris standing there:
It's probably a statue. But those are definitely her flowers.

This is the Midgar reactor making the rounds today in those comparison shots:
but here's a big version if you want a new wallpaper. sorry about the crops.

Square has always (always) understood the way to establish scale with beauty is with birds.
This very quick pan downward reminded me so much of the Secret of Mana cover art.

Here's our first shot of Barrett's arm cannon, notably slimmer than the old version:

And finally, our hero:
And look, the bolts on the shoulder are back.

Cloud, Barret, Yuffie

How one could not be completely mind blown over how awesome Yuffie is beyond me

Yuffie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Aeris >>>>>>>>>>>> Tifa

She's cute, she has a (sick) sense of humor, she's got charisma

She's got it all, unlike the trash that is Tifa.

edit: can't believe I'm having a discussion like it's 1997 :D SO AWESOME!
