Microsoft: Ashen and Cuphead are "lifetime" console exclusives

How so?

What if they couldn't get the game done as envisioned without signing a contract?

...you know what, I'm tired of discussing all this funding stuff here. It's hopeless.
Ok... Not sure why you quoted my post if you are tired of discussing the subject. I stand by my statement, anyways.

I'm really loving the fact that all these "Exclusive" games from Microsoft and Sony are also available on PC. It makes sure I don't miss out on any of these fantastic games.

Cuphead devs said MS was helping them with the game during the Xbox conference. That should've been a clear sign right there.

Yeah, I learned its an unwinnable argument a while ago.

Consoles get exclusives = "This is bad"
Consoles get multiplat = "These consoles are just identical"

I have a PC and XB1, but never heard of either game. Is this another case of minor indies game's importance getting exaggerated over console wars?

I don't understand how you jumped to this comparison. They both look great.

"My exclusive looks better than your exclusive!"

I personally thought Cuphead looked better than everything else shown at E3.

Have you even seen Cuphead?

Awww man, of course it had to be Cuphead. I was hoping it would come to PS4.
Never say never when it comes to MS exclusivity, but that's a pretty clear statement :/

Certainly you can do the research and post an actual opinion/thought about the games lol...

Cuphead and NMS are both console exclusives, by indie devs, with support from the console makers, and both coming to PC. How do you not get the comparison? They're both huge games for their respective consoles.

Sony's helped out indie devs with games that have ended up on XB1. I'm guessing MS have some IP ownership here.

Except, so far, we've seen no signs that NMS won't eventually make its way to XB1

I really love how so many "exclusives" are also on PC. It's really great for me even though I have everything I prefer PC when I can. Consoles still have exclusive exclusives like Halo and Uncharted so and often time timed exclusivity on things that might come to PC eventually (like FF Type-0 HD).
Both Sony and MS don't really view PC as competition. I'm sure they've done their market research to make sure they don't cannibalize their own console sales. At the end of the day there's very little overlap outside hardcore gaming forums like this. I think you'll continue to see Microsoft published games on PC.

Because it's kumbaya bullshit.

Because it completely glosses over how funding, risk, and development costs are shared between platform holders with resources, and developers with projects that are being pitched. All for a glossy, starry-eyed view of the world that isn't realistic, possible, or even desirable with a minimum understanding of the risks and rewards involved in working on a multiyear project in any industry, nevermind videogames.

I say congrats to Microsoft and the devs involved in working through, agreeing upon, and being given the time and budget to deliver what they wanted.

If I ever decide to get an Xbox One, I will immediately buy Cuphead.

I can't get over how good the artsyle looks, even though admittedly that look used to scare me as a kid.

I remember someone from Sony (I think it was Adam Boyes) saying that when they help an indie with development, they only ask for timed exclusivity. I think it was when he said "exclusivity doesn't benefit anyone".

It sounded more like Sony's relationship with Bloodborne to me i.e. it's a PS4 exclusive because they helped make the game.

Less excited about Cuphead now that I know it's just a series of boss battles, but still want to check it out. Weird to me that it's still not out until 2016.

Both are such fantastic looking titles, I'm probably going to end up day 1'ing them both.

The artstyle for Cuphead is just fantastic.
