The Comedians was based on a Swedish format, so the (otherwise excellent) reference is misplaced. Shame on you, person who came up with title. Shame on you.

I'll throw out more support for Mr. Robot. Sure the pilot remains the best episode, but we've hit Cage/Iguana Bad Lt. levels of crazy, wrapped in Hackers and Fight Club. Plus the lead is one hell of an actor.

How about The Good Guys? Yeah the back 7 were way weaker then the first 13--budget cut + retooling--but between the car chases and meta-tv show universe they lived in I loved the show despite the messy problems it had. Because I've just watched Supernatural season 1, the classic rock music + car as a star parallels were neat.
(I gave up on Burn Notice by season 5, worth finishing?)

Yes, the lead in Mr. Robot is quite good; it takes a lot of talent to act when your character is so disaffected and disconnected. Almost any actor can play a big, booming personality, but not as many can play one that's totally shut-down, bordering on catatonia at some points.

RE: Happyish, it doesn't surprise me that it was cancelled since both ratings and critical notice were poor and I think Showtime viewed it as a prestige project from day one when PSH was connected. Both Coogan and Hahn are great in the show. The old Coogan gets the more he looks like Gabriel Byrne to me. *literally fanning self* Whatahunk.

It does suffer from being a bit too rant-y and a bit too try-hard edgy and the scripts are filled a bit too much with monologuing and the problems are all first world stuff: a rich guy ponders the meaning of his life.

But, I think it has a really strong voice, it's smart, it's very literate to the point that I'm not sure the average person would identify with it at all. I think it really taps into what I would consider to be a sort of Jewish bleakness and neuroses, like a blackened, punk rock Woody Allen. It has a very pessimistic view of humanity. There is rarely light at the end of the tunnel. It is very angry. A lot of it feels like a guy lashing out. It's pretty raw. I think it is probably written for depressed, highly educated 40+ year old viewers. It is almost surreal at times. I think the last time I posted in this thread about it I compared it to a negative I Heart Huckabees and I'll stand by that. Very existential and cerebral.

I'm not sure it had much more to say so I don't think it's a great tragedy that it only got 10 episodes, but I think it really did achieve what it was going for in those episodes. If you haven't watched it and this sounds like something that would appeal to you, check it out.

Anyone else feel similarly? (you don't need to reply if you disagree, I already know most people didn't like it)

I watched the whole season, I have no idea why, and I actually found Billy Crystal more annoying than Gad - and I really don't like Gad, except in Frozen, but I had no idea he was Olaf until The Comedians.

Hell on Wheels started off with a pretty good bang this season, hope it continues strong. It sucks AMC is doing the half split thing again, with 7 episodes this year and 7 next year.

Lone Star was the most tragic cancelation of all time to me. I mean..sure..others shows' deaths stung, but at least they got whole season. This one got two episodes and they didn't even show the remaining filmed two anywhere. I mean...wtf Fox?!!

I am pretty disappointed it got cancelled. It was definitely unlike anything else on TV, a black comedy, which was unremitting bleak, generally mundane, but with amazingly surreal moments. I can't get behind the I Heart Huckabees comparison though mainly because I hated that film.
I guess the highest praise I can give it, is that it persuaded me to buy a book with 'foreskin' in the title.

Which shows are currently airing besides Humans and Scream: The TV Series? I think that's the only one I'm following right now. I haven't watched True Detective S1 yet, so I'm not watching S2.

Starz, along with all the actors, are referring to the season as the "conclusion" and "the end of the journey", among other things ("we get to go out on our own terms", "questions will be answered", "no big cliffhanger"), so I'm assuming that means they were told fairly early on - if they were told at all, that is. Maybe the decision to end the show was purely a creative one? Anyway, the season was in the oven for a really long amount of time so I'm guessing that's why.

I don't love the Angel from Hell key art, but at least it has a point of view... or at least an artistic direction. And the Supergirl one, by virtue of the show having a high concept ("Supergirl") at least communicates something interesting.

Limitless, Code Black, and Life in Pieces are blah. I guess key art for a family sitcom and a medical procedural are going to seem blah, but Limitless, theoretically, could have been considerably more visually interesting.

I'm not much of a comic book guy, but I do like good superhero stuff. Never bothered with the CW's shows, though, because they don't look appealing, and stopped watching both Gotham and Agents of SHIELD which was awful.

I'll give Supergirl a shot for the Hell of it.

I'm also glad that Humans is only 8 episodes long, because it's decent but not great and I have a lot of other stuff to watch.

Lastly, can anyone else not stand Jane Lynch?

You should give it another shot. The end of Season 1 and all of Season 2 were so much better than the start. It's a legitimately great show now.

I doubt your gonna like Supergirl if you don't like any other DC shows.

If I didn't have so much to watch, then maybe, but I really disliked the beginning and I'm not crazy about superheroes. I like them -- and check out the great stuff, plus most video games -- but I'm sick of the onslaught.

As for Jane Lynch: I have nothing against her as a person. I just find her annoying on-screen.
