Modern SE makes me nervous about any game featuring time travel.

Of the entire Dragon Quest series only one of them was developed internally at SE, which was DQX, So I don't think you need to worry much about SE dealing with the game outside of publisher duties if DQXI is outsourced as that is typically the norm.

Also remember Horii was also involved in Chrono Trigger, the directive lead of every Dragon Quest title to date, So I don't think you need to worry much over a time travel based Dragon Quest title.

Will the livestream be subtitled or translated like the Nintendo Directs and Sony's TGS stuff? Because if it's not I'm not sure if I'll watch it.

I mean, I agree with you to an extent and I'm sure there are plenty of people who prefer IX because it's on a Nintendo platform just like there are likely plenty who prefer VIII because it was on a PlayStation system. I just hate blanket statements. I've been a DQ player since Dragon Warrior on the NES. I adore Dragon Quest VIII on PS2. And DQIX is still one of my favorite entries. I also couldn't care less which platform DQXI releases on.

I have my own preferences on platforms, but I don't let that stop me from playing or enjoying games on other's. I'll state right now that whatever platform DQXI releases (even mobile which it won't) I'll play it as long as there is an English version. Having said that if I was honest I'd say prefer a PS4 release. I'd mention XB1 and PC as well, but there's no way the game releases on those platforms if it isn't on PS4 already. I'll also state that I'd prefer there not to be a PS3 version for the whole 'holding back' thing. However if there is a PS3 version, they may as well do one for Wii U which would be my 2nd choice if the game isn't on PS4.

Now I'll also say that 3DS and to a lesser extent Vita would be my worst choices. It's similar to what Teletraan1 said earlier but not to the same extreme. I don't like handhelds. I've played and enjoyed multiple games on them across several generations (including DQIV-VI and IX), but I like the games on them in spite of the hardware. I find them uncomfortable to play for a good length of time and would rather play all handheld games (bar VN's like 999, VLR and Danganronpa) on a console with a TV and controller. Despite them being the worst option for me though, I'll still buy and more than likely enjoy DQXI on those platforms though.

I have my preferences, but I don't let them be tainted by fanboy stupidity. And even if I want DQXI to be PS4 only (or with XB1 and PC as well), I'd be more than happy with the addition of any other platform including 3DS/PS4 since the idea of playing DQ on a console again after nearly 10 years sounds too good.

I really liked it. I'm still pretty sure I was the first in NA to 100% a save file @ 773 hours.

I wish I could have played DQX in English. MMO's are not my thing but I would have given it a good run because of DQ addiction.

I'm looking forward to this announcement to see which direction they go. 3DS, Wii U or PS4. Gimme gimme gimme in NA.

It's not going to be Wii U (as other than the port of the Wii game... they've put nothing else on the console)...and if it's to be played on the "big screen" it clearly won't be for 3DS (even though that would make the most financial sense).

PS4/PS3 with a slight chance of Vita is the likely outcome....PS4 only will likely piss off a bunch of gamers in Japan due to so few users (but it could still happen).

Are you suggesting you know something?

Nope, I just got un-juniored and am not even remotely going to say anything remotely port begging or anything else that is risky.
These threads get crazy, and this is too great a day getting a new DQ to risk getting wrapped up in it.

My preference is also PS4. I have every system including a very capable PC with the exception of Wii-U, but im going to get that anyways whenever Zelda is released.

Either way, im playing DQ11

The wisest move would be going for a UE4 game and publish it on PS4/PC/XB1.

Well PC and XB1 aren't happening, but we should only be so fortunate for them to have whatever studio that's been contracted to make it use UE4 to do so. JP studios sfe doing some killer work with UE right now.

I don't get this "holding back thing"

It's not like Dragon Quest was ever a series that pushed graphical tech in any meaningful manner.

Dragon Quest Heroes is cross-gen and that looks decent enough. Even the Naruto fighters by CC2 look decent for PS3 titles.

Considering Toriyama's artstyle and the way his character designs are represented, if anything. It being on par with Dragon Ball Xenoverse or even the Naruto games by CC2, I'd say that is a reasonable expectation for a console Dragon Quest title.

I don't think anyone expects something that is going to push the PS4 if DQXI is indeed a console release as Horii claims. Anyone expecting more then this is having unrealistic expectations on what "Dragon Quest" is all about.

Un-juniored, eh.

So it is possible...

Not for Japan it wouldn't...which is where the lions share of units will be sold.

Wisest move financially is 3DS exclusive, second wisest is cross platform on PS3/PS4/Vita (which is my bet..unless Sony have chucked them a massive chunk of cash for PS4 exclusivity to make up for the lost sales/potential annoyance of the fanbase).

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I wonder who'll be developing this game. Is Level-5 a possibility? Or maybe... CyberConnect 2?

It would totally be possible for them to go multiplat without excessive investment. There are 4 game engines that pretty much just work with everything, and would be great (in order): Unreal Engine, Unity, MT Framework and UbiArt Framework. Of course the latter two would have to be used with special permission from Capcom/Ubi.

If it's on console, all I ask for is a better looking version of what VIII achieved.

i dont wan't Level 5 to develop this game.

We need DQ 11 from Square Enix and Ni No Kuni 2 from Level 5....or atleast another JRPG from level 5

Long time ago I heard from somewhere that SE(Hori Yuji) and Level-5's relationship got bad after DQXI or something.....I wonder if there was any truth into that. I remember reading that Level-5 was not present when they had DQIX development completion event.

At this point I expect L5 to just work on their own things.

Yeah it seems very unlikely that Level 5 would do work for hire stuff at this point. IIRC they were the top selling third party publisher in japan last year.

Their resources are better spent milking Yokai Watch until it's dry and then launch yet another cross media franchise with yearly instalments.

I hope its like Dragon Quest VIII, its my favorite in the main series. Nothing holds a candle to it in my opinion. The music, the voice acting, the story, the length. All perfect!

The only main Dragon Quest game that never pushed its tech was DQ7 on PS1. DQ6 and DQ8 looked pretty amazing on their respective consoles compared to its competition at the time.

This is some revisionism right here. If anything a lot of DQ games pushed their hardware too much, resulting in slowdown etc.

Come on. V was criticized by the Japanese media for looking too much like a famicom game.
