That was a great trailer. THE MUSIC Day 1.
Yeah, sorry, no. Not even remotely the same thing" Hey, let's make The Godfather 4 a romantic comedy about an ageing man who is a young teenager's godfather and they all go on silly adventures, because, you know, the word "godfather" means the same thing here as well "
I couldn't come up with a more silly comparison, but it's basically the same thing.
There is absolutely nothing valid about that comparison." Hey, let's make The Godfather 4 a romantic comedy about an ageing man who is a young teenager's godfather and they all go on silly adventures, because, you know, the word "godfather" means the same thing here as well "

You might as well just say you want your criminals to be white men in suits and be done with it.

Hope this helps.

...No, it isn't the same thing. Wtf?
but none of them are remotely as interesting and captivating as the Italian/Sicilian kind to me, which is why this reveal has been extremely disappointing.
At least you are honest. And yes to italian mobsters please. Not interested in the black maffia.
Since people watched some movies and decided that mafia and Italian are synonyms. This is exactly why diversity in popular entertainment is important. People only get exposed to one thing, then think that whatever they keep seeing is the only example.Wait
When did the term Mafia exclusively mean "Italian Mafia"?
Some of you do know that there are a bevy of Mafias that go into different areas/nationalities right?
why would racial problems in a mafia game, escpecially one set in this era, be bad?
Wait

It is nowhere near the same thing. You're just being ridiculous now so I'm just going to leave this paticular topic.

I for one wanted italians, might sound bad but for me the mafia is the Godfather or if in Asia the Triads. Even Mafia 2 annoyed me a bit because we played at the edge of the family affairs instead of being part of it for most of the game.
When I play a criminal I want it to be something like the Godfather or A Bronx Tale. Not that interested in playing a character involved in street gangs.
Not my cup of tea. Looks too much like an open world shooter instead of a real maffia game.

The suits parts is pretty much true but really I wouldn't have liked it to be the irish either. I dropped GTA for similar reasons ages ago. I want the glamour mixed with violence that eventually makes everything go to hell. Most of the classical mafia movies are about the italians, Goodfellas and the like.
I wouldn't been happy with it going to Asia either but anyway not going to be hugely upset over this. It's not a genre I play a lot so passing Mafia 3 won't trouble me too much.
What? Why not?? I mean it's not like The Godfather 1 and 2 for example already set a certain vision that you can expect in sequels, right? Oh wait--
The footage looks kinda.....arcadey? What happened to Mafia landing on the more serious, realistic side of open world crime action games? The cars flipping and blowing up + catching on fire from seemingly every hit, the way he dives out of the muscle car, the ramp at a police roadblock to jump over it, the gratuitous knife kill, popping off grenade launchers in the middle of the street in broad day....What? le sigh. I was really hoping this was going to be a situation where car chases were heavy and realistic, and combat was raw and powerful without being over the top.
Still looking forward to what they can do with the setting and these characters, but I can't say I'm really excited for the tone of the gameplay they showed.
You guys are dismissing the idea of a black mafia without even giving it a chance. Other races have mafias too. We have the Yakuza and the triad. I don't want another Godfather I welcome this change.

2K today officially revealed Mafia III, the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and beautifully crafted game worlds.

GTA: SA thread part 2
Why is that? Shit comes in different colors and smells but it's still shit.
At least you are honest.
No it doesnt. But thats what most fans of the Mafia games were hoping/looking forward to.
Hmm they're actually going to address the racial issues of the time (and heck which are still going on)
I feel they've hedged their bets with a mixed race main character obviously going for the is he or isn't Vin Diesel effect. Although it's good to know from the video that even that will be commented on.
Subtly expanding "Mafia" from a series about the Italian Mafia to series about mafias isn't remotely the same as trying to compare the Italian Mafia defintion of "Godfather" to familial relationship definition of "godfather"What? Why not?? I mean it's not like The Godfather 1 and 2 for example already set a certain vision that you can expect in sequels, right? Oh wait--
Yes.So, fans of a series plainly named Mafia (not Italian Mafia) expect explicitly Italian Mafia stories going forward?
Please gtfo and stop jumping to conclusions. I think franklin is my most played gtav character.
lmao next level "I have a black friend"

Oh for fuck's sake. That's my cue to gtfo of this thread. I think this is about to get extremely ugly.lmao next level "I have a black friend"
Every Mafia game? Yes.
And if you have new ideas dump it in a new IP.
lmao next level "I have a black friend"
Yes.

I can't believe I still have to explain this.
This was never a series that was exclusively about the Italian Mafia. Never. Ever.
The first two games were of the Italian Mafia, great. Our next two could be of the Dixie Mafia, the next could be about the Russian Mafia.
Do you see how the game is still about the fucking Mafia in the end?
Your response to MMaRsu implies that somehow I'm not being honest? It's like I said, I don't know why all other organised crimes are uninteresting to me, whether they're black, white, or whatever, they never have had the same sense of "feel" compared to the other organised crime in fiction. Stuff like The Godfather and Goodfellas shit on all other organised crime fiction from such a height it's not even funny, and I've come to expect certain things after two instalments from Mafia.
If this series was called 'Italian Mafia' I'd understand some of these comments, but it's not.
I swear to God, some of you act like change is the Bubonic Plauge reading some of these posts.
The same could be said about gta and San Andreas ended up being one of the best games in the series.Your response to MMaRsu implies that somehow I'm not being honest?
