While we wait, other fun stats:

LEGO Star Wars - The Complete Saga sales doubled since April. Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars sales more than doubled. Both games were discounted for the first time in years during the Steam summer sale (66% off).

Lego Star Wars Complete Saga
April: 73,386 ±15,498
August: 150,093 ±9,682

Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars
April: 23,893 ±8,844
August: 61,707 ± 6,209

I think both numbers could double again if the next discount is 75%.

Has Microsoft said anything about Gears of War being cross buy in the same way that Killer Instinct is? Tempted to buy the Xbox One version at launch so I can go through the whole series via backwards compatibility.

- top community poster is a poster in super best friends with 12,500 posts in that community in last year

wtf%20(2).gif

calculations done back to ~september 2014 from the present for gaming side only.

- steam-gaf is second-largest community on gaf's gaming side (#1: destiny, #3: super best friends).
- steam might pass destiny, hard to tell.
- top 5 communities combined over 1 million posts in that 1 year period.
- steam about 235,000 posts in that time
- top steam poster so far has about 6,000 posts in steam in last year (not saying who until i do full back to 2004 stats)
- top community poster is a poster in super best friends with 12,500 posts in that community in last year
- 12 of the top 20 community posters are in super best friends
- 1 of the top 20 community posters are in steam
- 4250 unique steam posters in last year

So community's size is based on unique posters on those particular threads? Or is it based on the number of posts?
Super best friends, this is the first time I heard it.

Oh, and also, RIP Shadownet. :/

Hey Stump, what's your take on this SMACH Zero thing?

There's nothing implausible about a portable linux machine with those specs and the price doesn't seem plainly impossible. However, manufacturing hardware is very hard and I'm dubious any time a small first-time company claims they've got the situation on lock. I wouldn't give money to anyone who claims they'll give me hardware a year from now because of the massive number of factors beyond someone's control. Even if a company said "We know this is hard, and we've built lots of flexibility into our process so we can still make this if we lose suppliers", etc etc I'd still assume they're underestimating the complexity. I mostly treat hardware projects of any kind as bunk until they're shipping. Not clear to me if the company is trying to make money on the hardware or just exist long enough and get enough buzz to get bought by a large firm.

I think the concept is OK. Interesting that the minimum hardware reqs for low-end PC games have been stagnant for so long that portable form-factor tech have caught up to it. Doesn't surprise me, given that a lot of mobile SOCs are now theoretically in the ballpark of the 360/PS3 (caveat: efficiency losses due to thick, slow mobile APIs versus faster, closer-to-metal APIs on consoles).

Like most specialty portable hardware I can't see it doing huge numbers. This is clearly a company that wants to sell a few tens of thousands in a best-case scenario rather than a few million. The Shield is around 100k in North America based on the recall numbers announced this week, and nVidia is clearly a company with a lot more experience on hardware, better ability to tap supply chains, more marketing (hell, it's in their fucking video card driver control panel). So if you're making something like this that's your "ceiling", roughly

It's quite the read. I don't think he meant anything bad by it. Just really poor word choice and analagous argument to very different cases.
He isn't even black or white, either, right? So.

Oh dear. Thanks for the replies!

Keeping up with news and the fate of comrades is difficult right now. I hope I don't miss VC PC announcements.

Imagine if there is a PC release of Destiny, it will boost the OT numbers even higher, and I can't imagine there won't be another few expansions either.

Who wants to buy Destiny on PC? I'm seriously asking.
It's an extraordinary popular game so many would play it in the best possible way I assume.

There are many popular things I don't pay attention to. Ie, I've never spent more than 10 minutes listening to One Direction but I'm not going to pretend that because of my disinterest that no one cares about them.

I would, if it released, most likely. Especially on Steam -- I had fun in what little I played of the beta, the clips I've seen look fun, there seems to be a large community of people who enjoy playing it, and it's something else I could co-op with Ningen... we're currently looking for second-hand PS4 copies, but if it were on PC, we could conceivably change platforms.

Destiny seems a bit too difficult a game to get into, considering the community is already established.

So yes, I'd buy on PC. Definitely not picking up on console.

I have a group of friends who play it fairly regularly and they would be willing to switch over to PC if a port were to be announced. I'd likely check that version out rather than reinstall the thing on my console, anyhow.

Also, they'd totally put in an LFG system if it were to come to PC.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Every time I contemplate jumping into Destiny, I realise that I could just try playing Borderlands instead.

And then you realize that sitting alone in a room staring into the middle distance of a blank wall would be a better use of your time.

Let's rephrase again, who seriously thinks Destiny is a good game??

It's not fundamentally bad. I played it briefly, since a friend owns it. Community is toxic, but what game of that genre doesn't have that?

Only thing I'm against is the how they sell the game. It seems they weren't above trying to screw older players when they released their last expansion. They corrected it, putting the expansion separately as well, rather than bundled with the game alone. That's a future concern.

I enjoy Destiny for the co-op PvE content. It's hooked a few friends of mine who were mainly CoD players before (and Halo players before that), and the Raids are fun to do in that they combine teamwork/coordination with precision shooting (on a controller with aim assist, but still). The draw for some others is the ability to "out-earn" people in terms of gear and then take that gear into multiplayer to show it off or gain an upper hand (in the modes where power differences are enabled, such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris).

Is one of its biggest problems a lack of content? Absolutely. Is the story non-sense and a bit of a letdown? Yes. Could there be a lot of things done better? Sure. But it's an awful lot of fun when you've got a raid team of six working together towards a common goal.

Would buy it (or Destiny 2, which I think is more likely) on the PC in a heartbeat.

Don't alt+tab
Browse the net on your ipad :V

Then he's obviously a peasant and should be playing it on a console.

Couldn't say, personally, but if I thought it was a terrible game, I wouldn't be considering finding a cheap PS4 copy to play with Ningen. :p

i don't have an ipad , i don't like apple product or even believe in the tablet
tablets is just a mistake in the history , someone should go back in time to make sure no one make one

also , i don't have next gen console
only PS3/X360/vita/3DS and my laptop

Just tested DMC4SE out with Alt+Tab on my PC... works fine, no crashing.
Is it a "known" issue? Something with particular video cards, settings, resolutions, ram, etc?

Let me tell you about one of those little gems on Steam that has been criminally overlooked and deserves much more exposure and success than the ~1100 sales it's gotten so far, imo.

Shadowcrypt is a small, atmospheric 2D melee arcade/platformer made by basically one dude. Inspirations chiefly include Zelda 2's combat segments, maybe a little bit of Castlevania. It taps into the same well Volgarr the Viking does - the controls are tight and you know your moveset (Jumping, ducking, stabbing (high and low), throwing spears, blocking and shield bashing.), you know what you and the enemy are capable of at any time. There's nothing super fancy about it; it's fairly small, has a set layout (so no randomisation/roguelike elements) and a successful run might actually only last you under a hour (though you're not going to have a successful run in your first hour with the game, that much I guarantee). Some might call that barebones - but that also means that it has a certain purity to it that's actually refreshing and compelling.

It's also balls fucking hard, I've finally beat it for the first time today after dozens of attempts, but it felt so damn good to finally conquer this game that I just had to write this little blurb and maybe spread the love a bit. :D The animation is quality stuff and it really does nail the atmosphere it's going for.

Seems a bit of a stretch to classify the game as a bad port based solely on its ability to alt-tab, especially with all of the people citing the opposite.

Try running the game in borderless window, rather than full screen.
