NPD Sales for July 2015

Either Sony price cut or Halo will mark the turning point.

That's my guess too. Sony have the big third party marketing deals, they just need the pricing to go with it. I also think Microsoft will do some very aggressive bundling, but not necessarily an official price cut.

Fixed. I'm sure it sold ok on PC.

Based on what we know, the majority of W3's sales were on console, with the PS4 taking the lions share. It actually sold a lot more on just the PS4 than it did on PC, so I'm not sure that's a fair correction either.

STILL MAN STILL. It was #4 last month and now it's not even in the top ten while other games have maintained their spots. Lego Jurassic World even went up. Geralt of Rivia > Chris Pratt

i think is the emotional rollercoaster with each patch released to "fix" stuff in the game created this result. that said, i finished the game yesterday and it felt soooo gooood and sad at the same time

I just realized The Witcher III isn't even in the top ten.

Gaming is dead to me.

Even if it stopped selling completely it has already sold really well in US for rather unknown ip with strong PC history. Also going by PAL charts it's doing better in Europe than in US (for example PS4 version is still in top 5 in weekly french and german charts)

It's a shame. You can argue all kinds of possible reasons. Lack of brand awareness, no guns, too close to Dragon Age, America taste sucks (
just kidding with that one
) and so on.

In the end it's just the market trends. No doubt people from US look at the top ten from other European countries and feel just as amazed.

You do? Why? And I don't see how the combined SKU rank is a "waste of time" as it accurately reflects total sales of a particular title in the market.

I wouldn't call bunching every single platform release together with no data for individual platforms entirely accurate. On your end it's a different story. But to us normal forum goers it doesn't really tell us anything.

Please tell me creamsugar said how many Destiny copies were sold.

The game is in the beast mode after TTK announcement.

PS. Over 70k (Splatoon number) are not enough to me.

Games usually have a longer tail on PC than console though. Also, although the game did well in the U.S., the majority of its sales seem to be in Europe since it's still charting pretty highly.

I found the Witcher to be perfectly playable before and during the patching but if you listened to some it was somehow a mess. I think the game got an undeserved rep.

No. He gave us Splatoon, Witcher 3 and God of War 3 sales and the console pie chart. That's it.

Then it's exactly what NPD and the publishers want. They want the rankings out there and some basic total market stats, but nothing at all that could influence the investor community.

Honestly I really wanted the witcher but I've learned this gen to avoid initial reviews and wait. Most games including TW had reports of framerate issues or various bugs so I decided to wait on it. I literally lose nothing by waiting and I've come to distrust most initial reviews.
My experience with bf4, cod Aw, have taught me to wait for performance threads

I know that the Star Wars hype will be beyond massive this November, but unless it's a limited edition bundle, I doubt it can compete with the XB1, especially if Microsoft has bundles like $349 with Halo 5 and RotTR. The way I see it, the PS4 can only match or even exceed the XB1 in sales if Sony announces a $349 Battlefront bundle and $399 limited edition Battlefront bundle.

I think the pricing of the LE Halo 5 bundle show MS bundling won't be like u r predicting. I.e halo and TR for only 349. JMO. Maybe TR:DE and RoTR at that price though. I would still bet a Star Wars bundle at 399 would stay within 150k of any bundle either of us has mentioned assuming no other freebies tossed in. Again JMO

I think the gap heading into last holiday season was 1.1M. The XBO outsold the PS4 by ~600K, reducing the gap to a half million.

Gap was >1.1m at the end of October.

The Xbox One outsold the PS4 by more than 600k in the holidays.

Gap at the end of 2014 was ~500k

The gap gone over 1m after Destiny (September) with ~200k diff.

Now if MGSV and Destiny can do a ~200k diff again then the gap will be again over 1m after September.

Didn´t expect that.

Maybe they will surpass PS4 this holiday season with Forza/HALO/Gears/TombRaider ?

(Only in the US of course)
I don't think Xbone will outsell PS4 over 1m in holidays this year.

Forza, Gears Remake and Tomb Raider won't move systems.

Halo is the only hope.

CoD is PS4 bundled now.

wait there are people who thought the gap in the us was more than 1 million after the holiday season of last year when MS was giving away xbox 1s for free?
The lead in the US was only 1.1 million last year, and its headed back that way.
Dont forget that these 2 systems came out at the same time.
the lead is much bigger worldwide, almost 10+.

It really depends on how much a battlefront bundle flies off the shelf, if Microsoft lowers it to 299 and if Sony does nothing with the price.

It needs to sell 800k units above the PS4.

Let's say August is pretty positive, and they eat away 50k.

September is likely to go the PS4 way again with the Destiny bundle and MGSV. Either way, it seems like the real game
THE SEASON
begins in October.

They then have October, November and December to sell 800k above. October should have a significant boost: It's Halo 5, it has its own bundle, the timing is great. If it can replicate and even go beyond last year's PS4 September, let's assume they eat away 300k.

Then we get to November. Best case scenario, the CoD/Battlefront stuff doesn't move the needle much, and Microsoft goes in agressively for Black Friday again. Another 400k?

Then it's down to December, where nothing really seems to suggest they could eat another 100k lead.

I have a very, very tough time imagining a scenario where this happens, even keeping Sony's strategy completely fixed.

There are just way too many moving parts at this point to predict even remotely accurately IMO. We'll know more once we can trace out their holiday strategies reasonably well.

Sony has more "system seller" bundles for Holidays this year.

MS: Halo

Sony: CoD and Battlefront

We don't know if those will be bundled, and while it's likely, we don't know if the CoD stuff will truly make people jump ship.

Halo comes out in October, but I'm sure it will a lot of noise in November as well, with a cheap crazy-ass bundle or something. This is desperate MS we're talking about.

That's a much smaller gap between the PS4 and Xbone than I was expecting. Microsoft have done well to keep Sony sweating in NA.

Leading in the USA, land of the Xbox (the heart and soul of the XB1 keeping it alive) is not what I would call "sweat". Nice recovery from Microsoft though.

Well people says that every year about CoD.
Every year it sells a lot of bundles.

Xbone started to outsell PS4 last year with CoD & AC bundle and after the MCC bundle.
